From our first phone call to this site the lady we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. When we showed up the lady showed us to our pitch and showed us where all the facilities were. It is a lovely site within the grounds of Stonham Barns and Mid Suffolk showground, there is a play area with see saw and wooden assault course, slide etc which is great for younger children. We went fishing, didn't catch much though! The children liked the reptile and aquarium shop.
The toilet/showers/washing up blocks were clean & plenty of hot water but, as previous reviews, looking a little tired. Reception does sell milk, bread and sweets but it was no bother to drive to shops if you need more supplies.
Caravan sprang a leak in the roof light while we was there and Alan (the owner?) very helpfully leant us a ladder and sealer gun for us to repair the leak.
Overall a nice site to visit and would visit again.

Up until two years ago we visited this campsite on a very regular basis. We only camped once last year in Buckinghamshire so, on the last weekend in May, decided to go back to Stonham. On reading a few of the reviews on here I was a bit worried about what I was going to find. But it was brilliant.
We received a very warm welcome from a helpful young lady. Yes, the portacabins that the showers and toilets are in aren't brand new but they were absolutely spotless. We were in the showers just before 9am and there was plenty of hot water. This is Suffolk, you're in the countryside here so why does everyone expect to be able to do their food shopping on the doorstep? I suspect most visitors, if not all, have some form of transport and Stowmarket is only 15 minutes away. You just have to be a bit organised.
One reviewer has said that the permanent caravan dwellers don't make a good feel to the site. I disagree. The occupants are all very friendly and most of the caravans are surrounded by lovely well cared for gardens adding what I think is a really nice touch to the site.
For only £14 a night (incl. Free showers),I can't rate Stonham Barns highly enough for a lovely peaceful break in the Suffolk countryside.

We stayed at Stonham barns last weekend and thought it was a great campsite, only let down was the washing/shower area. I was warned it was a mobile unit so I expected it, but all was clean there, get the showers early or wait till later, they get cold quick
The owners were very helpful when needed. There isn't a minimart on site, and Claydon or Debenham or Stowmarket are the nearest places to buy groceries. There is other shops on site but more down the line of gift shops. There is a cafe on site but we didn't use it but the prices looked good
The reptile shop is worth a look, and according to the others that camped with us, te owl sanctuary is worth a visit. Fishing is down the other end of the site with 2 lakes, mainly carp and roach, £5 for the day
There is also a par 3 golf course which is also £5 for 9 holes, a driving range and crazy golf.
Our pitch was large (it needed to be for our vango 900xp) and my brother was pitched next to us. We had electric hook up and was on the rally field which was good. The site is near a road, so the further you are down the tent field the better, it is all tree lined and sheltered
For the 3 nights we stayed it was £48 for 5 and ehu, we are going back in August for a weekend. Well worth a try

Sadly Stonham Barns seems to have lost a lot of the quaint lustre that it had in years gone by. The campsite itself was OK but the actual barn complex looked old, tired, half empty and really quite unloved.
Stayed just one night and was glad that was all we had booked. Toilets and showers were OK (just) and the site looks partially occupied with permanent caravan dwellers which never really creates a good feel.
Would not go again I'm afraid or even recommend, nothing really awful but nothing to excited about either.

Great site, lots to see and do.
Facilities on the Rally Field were clean and tidy.
Nice and flat and lots of space.
We have visited this site twice and both visits were fine.
The amenities are always clean and tidy and there is always plenty of hot water for showers, whatever time of day.
The Raptor Centre is well worth a visit and the flying displays are very impressive.
The golf driving range is also good fun, even if like me you're not a golfer. It's just fun to see how far you can whack a golf ball when you get the swing right (I managed to hit the 250yd marker once).
All in all a great site with lots to do.

Stayed here for a weekend. Site clean and well kept. Toilets are in a portacabin which has seen better days but, they were spotless and cleaned regular. The warden on the site was very layed back and was very easy to deal with, and even walked us to our pitch. Time for leaving was flexable and did not have to rush off. Cafe by the Barns was not bad, basic food but keenly priced. Overall, lovely place and could not understand why it was not busier. Would definitely return.

Flat level roomy pitches, elctric amd water close to most pitches, a few hardstanding. Some private statics and quite a few seasonal pitches. Toilet block not new but clean, and nice free hot showers. Well looked after and clean elsan disposal area. Laundry facilities. Well maintained quiet campsite, dog friendly with good dog walking areas, tarmac roads, with plenty of hedges and shrubs. Very helpful wardens.
Families with children who like to kick a ball about would be advised to use the rally field which is usually booked at weekends, as there are no areas for ball games on the other pitches. On site facilities include retail outlets selling really good quality items. These include Cafe/restaurant (all day breakfast available) garden centre, antiques, gifts, country clothing and an old fashioned sweet shop, Owl sanctuary with raptors (daily flying shows) crazy golf, 9 hole golf course, golf practice range, 2 fishing lakes.
Site is adjacent to Mid Suffolk Showground which has various activities throughout the year (please note Redwings Horse sanctuary is no longer there) easy access for large units. Minor niggles are: nowhere local to get daily supplies, and some traffic noise if you pitch the roadside of the rally field. All in all would definitely reccomend. We have been caravaning for many years, and this site is really good value for money.

We had wanted to visit 'Jimmy's Farm' (to the south of Ipswich at Wherham) and this was the closest campsite with decent reviews or which allowed children. We had booked in advance and although the owners had been called away on our arrival, they left clear instructions on where to pitch. The friendly owners checked to make sure everything was ok on their return. The site was almost empty of campers but there are many resident caravans parked round the edge of the fields.
The pitch was a decent size and flat. A tap is located actually on the electric hook-ups (and there are no drains which appeared dangerous to me). You approach the site from a tourist route and through a small industrial type hamlet and Suffolk Showground. There was a park which kept our young children happy.
The toilets were clean and the showers operated on a push and slow release system. There are baby change facilities in the ladies. The pot washing facilities were always spotless. There's free use of a fridge and washing machines and dryers for a small fee.
During our stay we visited Jimmy's Farm, Ipswich, Sutton Hoo, Framlingham and Colchester. We enjoyed each one.
We were disappointed that the shop didn't stock anything other than sweets - they said they couldn't compete. We recommend doing your shopping while you are out and about as the drive to the local Tesco's (the nearest shop) is quite a treck.
On the Saturday night we ran out of gas so decided to eat out. We found it hard to find anywhere that was either child friendly, wasn't fully booked or even open. We ended up with fish and chips in Framlingham which is also trek if you're hungry!
Suffolk is beautiful and although we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, there is something about this site that I can't quite put my finger on. There was nothing bad about it but I am not sure whether I would visit there again.

We stayed for a 4 night very hot long weekend in school holidays. 2 adults and 2 children cost £14 per night, electric would have been an extra £2.
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Very limited shop with just drinks, biscuits and ice creams. Nearest shop for milk, bread, eggs etc was a drive away which was rather annoying. Tesco and Asda are in Stowmarket (15 mins).
We were put in the rally field as we were meeting 2 other families. Pitches all seemed very flat and sheltered.
The campsite seemed very quiet for school holidays, there was plenty of space for the kids to play ball games. One downside was the campsite is close to a road, not constant noise, but irritating if you want a peaceful location.
The shower block is good and cleaned regularly. The showers were free and perfectly warm. There is a washing-up area and laundry.
The children enjoyed the crazy golf, good value for £1.50. We also enjoyed the fishing lake, £5 per day. We didn't use the cafe, but the menu looked OK.
We visited Southwold (1 hour) and Bury St.Edmunds (30 mins), both worth a visit.
Our first time in Suffolk and we will definitely visit again, but probably won't camp at Stonham Barns.

Stayed on the rally field for the Big Active Dogs (BAD) weekend, along with my Mastiffs. Found the site very clean & staff very helpful. Had my disabled mother with me & they lent me a RADAR key for the disabled toilet.
Showers & toilets clean & plenty of hot water. Quite a lot to do on the site at the right time of year. I would visit again.
