Just had a great nights camping at stoats farm. Is in a great spot with lovely views and perfect for walking the Tennyson downs to alum bay. There is a little shop on site and the toilets, showers and washing facilities are clean and have lots of hot water. The High Down Inn is a little local put next to the site has good food and real ale ( lovely )
Will. Be going back for a longer stay

Basic site, but that's what I like. Very helpful lady on reception which is stocked with food, drinks and gas canisters. She also provided excellent directions in the shape of a hand drawn map to the local village for the take away and larger convenience store. All this for £5 for the night(I was backpacking on the coastal path)It's a 10 minute walk from the path(at Tennysons Monument)and about an hour by the path to the Needles. I was there midweek so the site was nice and quiet but when full I could see the showers/toilets struggling to cope, however at the end of a 20 mile day this place was a blessing!

A very beautiful but unloved site. The disabled facilities are dismal as the toilet had a ladder and big black plastic bag inside which made it unusable.
The shower block was so very cold with very few places to put clothes in the shower rooms which meant they became wet. Therefore, the facilities were clean although basic.
Nonetheless, I shall return again but in warmer weather which will enable me run the gauntlet of the shower. The lady who ran it was lovely and very helpful and the pub a few yards away was great with great cider and great food.

Had a wonderful five nights here during the heatwave in July. As the other reviews say, this is a fantastic site if you want peaceful, relaxed, no frills camping. Lovely to be able to pitch where you want (deciding on the balance between the flatter bits of the site and potential sunset views took the first half hour!). Loads of space, and very quiet. We were in the lower field and had views of the downs and amazing sunsets each evening. Facilities fairly basic but clean and there were enough showers and toilets so you didn't have to queue. Lynn who ran the site was very helpful and friendly and provided phone/camera charging (for a small fee) and daily weather forecasts. The pub about 2 minutes walk from the site was great for an evening out. The site is really well located for the quieter West Wight - you can walk to Tennyson Down and from there to the Needles, and easy to reach Freshwater where there are grocery shops.

I enjoy camping when there is a hint of nostalgia and a feeling of simpler times; and that's exactly what you get at Stoats Farm. We camped in the bottom field with only a handful of others and with great views of the wooded valley and steep fields full of sheep. It was a bit bumpy getting to the pitch we chose but perfectly do-able for a campervan or car. We ate at the local pub a short 5 minute stroll away which I'd definitely recommend. The loos were fairly clean but basic, and for £15 including hot water/showers this site is exceptionally good value and probably one of my favourites in the Uk so far. Looking forward to returning soon for another vintage-feel get away and to being woken by the sounds of birds and sheep. Bliss.

Just spent 2 nights here - super site. As stated elsewhere, basic facilities but clean and lots of hot water. The pitches are a little lumpy in the lower field but worth it for the great view. Quiet site with a really good, friendly pub just up the road that does good food. The lady owner was very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. If you don't need the glitz and glamour come here for some real camping.

We booked this after reading the recommendations on here and were very pleased we followed our instincts. The site has two fields; the lower field where the pitches are unmarked, uneven and the basic camping spots. The higher field is more organised with electric hook ups and flat grass, but we wanted the lower field.
We pitched up at the top of the lower field, which meant we got the winds off the Downs but the view was amazing. And perfectly placed to walk to the Tennyson and onto Needles, Freshwater or as we did one day to Yarmouth.
The pub at the entrance to the site is quality (just make sure you feed Mim the dog if you sit near the bikky tin!).
The showers were ok, I've had worse. They were hot which is good and well lit. Although the extra ones round the back were a bit hit & miss with some not working or having low pressure.
People said Lynne & David were super helpful and they proved it by lending us their OS map so we could go on some longer walks as we didn't have one. Greatly appreciated.
The site is lovely and quiet with loads of space and higher & lower levels and the undulating terrain merely adds to the ambience of the place.
This isn't a site for glampers or those wanting bowling lawn pitches that are tree lined, but you'll struggle to beat the views!
Will I go again? I'm going back next year and taking my mates!

We love this site!
Beautiful views in a stunning little valley, with the some of the best sunsets in the world!
We visit here three or four times each year for a local break, often with friends. We bring either our tent or our touring caravan and both experiences are as lovely as each other.
Don't visit if you want a busy, bustling site with lots of activities and amenities - don't come! Or if you think it could change (as an earlier review says) by putting in tarmac roads and building state of the art shower blocks - go somewhere else. Please keep this beautiful campsite just as it is!
If you love the countryside and 'real' camping but with showers and a small shop - book now you wont regret it!
The owners Lynn and David are so friendly and will go out of their way to hep you. At the same time they are not 'in your face' and allow you to have a lovely peaceful time.
Free range children! If you have children, lots of space to play good old fashioned games; Rounders, cricket, kite flying, frisbee or just wildlife and bug hunts. No nosiy play area where children are expected to play while the adults don't look after them properly.
The perfect site for 'getting away from it all' camping.

Raining windy June and we were welcomed. Sloping site and some flat areas. Separate tent field. Electric hookups in parts of the site and we parked up near the clean although sparse facilities - several showers, loos and disabled loo and one huge sink with piping hot water for washing up.
The site has lovely country views and is on chalk which, says the lady owner, dries out quickly so there's no need to worry about getting stuck in the mud. Even if you do we'll pull you out with our 4x4 (which her husband did for another unit the next day - with no fuss at all!)
There's a small shop on site for emergencies (bread, milk, eggs etc) which, next to the farm house, will open at any reasonable time of day or evening.
There were a few stored and tired units around two sides of the site which could look untidy if you were looking that way - but once in position we all (ie we and the other motorhome visitors) were easily parked with views across the valley over unspoiled countryside. There were no stored units around the tent field.
There was a good walk with super views over the downs to the Needles with their National Trust restored forts complete with super views from the nicely staffed cafe offering tasty light lunches, snacks and cakes.
An added bonus was the adjacent Highdown Inn with super food and excellent beer and wi-fi. This was so good we ate out not once but twice during our 2-day stay! Unheard of for us. And I was able to check my proofs online for the voluntary work I do for a heritage railway.
For our tastes, an ideal site.

A weeks stay at this site and it was idyllic even though our first two days were deluged with rain and we had to be towed off the pitch.
The site might not have all the whistles and bells of other sites, and no hard standing but the terraces were level and not overcrowded. It was clean, unpretentious, friendly and everyone on site helpful.
Very peaceful spot, stunning views across the meadows and close to fantastic walks for our dogs. The site owner and local pub were VERY dog friendly. Site shop had basics and local village, 15 minute walk away had a grocery and fish & chip shop.
There were not many people staying when we were there so toilet/shower/ washing up facilities were just fine but they might be a bit stretched when busier.
Most enjoyable site we've been to to date, good value for money, will definitely return.
