A fairly basic site with quite a lot of the area on a hillside which, I'd imagine, is difficult to pitch on successfully. When I was there it wasn't very busy but I can imagine that during busy times the basic toilets get crowded and the areas not on the hillside get quite crowded too. It's about a 15 min walk from the number 7 bus route that stops at Totland war memorial.

Very nice location for a walk over Tennyson Down and the pub next door (The High Down I think) is very good for beer and also does decent food.

We were initially very disappointed on arriving at this site as there were many rather old and unloved caravans around the edge of the top field - not holidaymakers but obviously left there all year round and they really were an eyesore. Our camping field was quite unlevel but it was easy to pitch as the ground was soft.
The facilities were reasonably clean but could be improved upon as locks were missing from shower and toilet doors. There was no hot water or soap in the toilets.
The views across the Downs were beautiful and there is a pub at the end of the lane which served very good food although the wait was horrendous but you must expect that in high season.

 August 2005
Just been with my husband for our summer holiday, spending six nights in a tent. The views of West Wight were lovely and the area in general were very picturesque! Freshwater Bay to visit was easily accessible, within a mile, and very relaxing, as was Totland! The very local pub was friendly with good beer! Shame it was shut between 3pm and 6pm!!!!

The campsite had a little shop with the basic requirements, which was handy, and the use of a laundry which families used. There was a Co-op and Somerfield in Freshwater itself. The owners were very friendly and it was not too busy, like some of the sites we saw.
The toilets and shower block were very basic, could do with a revamp!!! We had a lovely week's holiday in West Wight.

Beautiful setting, near Tennyson's Down. Large field with not many tents in it. Swallows/house martins flew around the field every evening (fantastic) and green finches rested in the trees on the field edges. There were very few level pitches. The owners were friendly, but showers and loos were not! They certainly weren't cleaned while we were there (6 nights). There was only one shower in each of the toilet blocks (i.e. 2 showers), although there were about 5 in a separate block (these were very basic and full of leaves!).
