Very easy to access from the A1 and the A19. Flattish in the middle – we didn’t need to level at all which makes it easier if just stopping over night.
EHU bollards, toilets and showers somewhat old fashioned style-wise and showers/toilets not up to usual CC cleanliness standards although still OK.
This site is basically 5 rows of caravans in a field and so a little soul - less! (the picture on the CC web site is a lot more attractive than it is in reality).
Tesco within sight and 2 mins walk so easy to stock up before moving on.
This is a great site for a stop over (and pretty cheap too) but I wouldn’t want to spend my holiday there.

This site accepts motorhomes, to be fair there was about 60% of the site with Motorhomes, first impressions were a little hesitant as we did not expect to find are own pitch,
But it does seem to work.
Superb for the family that has forgotten those last minute things as Tesco and Lidl shops 1 across road from site, and town center 5/8 min walk very handy. Bit of road noise as we were close to the road but I guess the further into site should be noise free.
Showers clean and toilet block very tidy,
Site wardens very nice and friendly short open times so as our stay was only two nights, we managed to grab them to pay. The site is also 5 mins walk to the Sunday car boot sale and a large car boot sale it was, kids liked site and we will want to go back and stay.

We use this site on a regular basis. The site is easily accessible and only a five minute walk into the town to the shops bars and restaurants.
The amenities are always clean and tidy and wardens helpful. We don't have a problem with road noise unless you live in the country or a cul de sac and not used to any noise.
We have never had a problem driving on the grass and we have a three and a half ton motorhome. The site is dog friendly and we will keep returning.

We stayed for 2 nights on what must have been the wettest weekend of the year. The site road stops at the reception and all the traffic needs to drive over the grass to get to the pitches so pretty muddy! Having said that, we managed to get on and off without getting bogged down and the warden said that the drainage is pretty good - just as well!
Pluses - very convenient for walking into Thirsk.
Easy to find and access - racecourse is well signed.
Facilities look dated but worked very well - nice hot, free showers.
Minuses - having to drive over grass to pitches when wet.
Next to main road which was very noisy on Friday and Saturday night.
Some electric points need extra long leads to reach.

Bit of a strange one.
We arrived at the reception only to find it was only open for a few hours a day, when closed you choose your own pitch then removed the corresponding peg from the map outside reception to show that that pitch was no longer available,
We ended up paying for the pitch on departure !
Location five minutes walk from the centre of Thirsk. Very easy access, large grass pitches, facilities old but clean and functional. Backs on to a Lidl and over the road from a Tesco superstore
The only real downside we found was due to its town centre location there was a lot of traffic noise that went on into the small hours of the morning.

First visit to this site. Small & compact. Wardens pleasant, facilities very old but clean as you would expect from a caravan club managed site.
Site is situated on part of racecourse five mins walk from town centre, with tesco across the road and lidle next door.
Downside is the road which runs along the side of the site over the fence. Noise is very intrusive.

Strange site this one. Weve just had 2 nights here and whilst it is not the sort of site we would normally use it did have a number of good points.
Firstly, the welcome was very warming. We were pointed in the direction of the tent area and told to pitch anywhere. That was when it went downhill for us. There is a very narrow patch of grass at the side of the reception building that is used for tents. But this only fits around 4 tents in it and when you put 4 cars in also you may as well be sharing with each other so we told the nice lady we couldnt get our tent in. She pointed us to a small area at the back of the building where a larger tent had already pitched. We were able to get our tent next to it just leaving room for the cars to get out. We bent just about every tent peg we had trying to get them into the solid ground. Then there was the busy road right next to where our tent was. Not our idea of peace and quiet! The site itself is situated almost in the town centre of Thirsk. We really were not expecting to find it there. There is a Tesco across the road and a decent chippy around the corner. Thirsk race course is also next to it.
On the site the shower / toilet block is spotless. Possibly the cleanest / well maintained I have ever seen. The grounds are well cut and there are plenty of bins and water points There is a washing up area and washing machine/dryer/ironing board but we didnt use these. Also an excellent information point.
Its not a site for the kids. There is nothing for them to do. Its main custom clearly comes from Caravans and Campers. I got the impression that they didnt really want tents on the site hence us being tucked away in a corner out of the way.
I did think it would be a great place for when the horse racing was on but I read somewhere that if you are there you will get moved!
We wont be staying here again but that is not the fault of the site it is just that we like the peace and quiet when camping and here we didnt get it.

Not a lot changed from the previous reviews. This is a very convenient site for the lovely market town of Thirsk. You are only a few minutes walk away from where the real James Herriot, Alf White I think, had his vets practise, it is now a museum to Herriotism., A good little site but the facilities, although clean, are not those expected in a normal Caravan club site and are in need of some updating. Such old world charm is however reflected in the price and the novelty of camping beside the race course adds that extra bit of fun. Given the opportunity I fully intend to return to do the cinema, swimming pool, museum, church, bookshops, numerous proper pubs etc, etc .

August 2005 With a relative used this site as a base for cycling in the N Yorkshire moors. Found the wardens friendly and despite comments by some caravaners found the facilities good and very clean. So impressed will go back next year. Tesco, is only 3 minutes walk away, nice pubs in the town, watched cricket played inside the race track on a balmy evening. Just great!

May 2004 This is a lovely quiet site yet just a few minutes walk from the centre of Thirsk. This CC site is also open to non members and tents. The site is in the grounds of Thirsk racecourse and some of the pitches overlook the track. The pitches were spacious and the ground is fairly even. A large Tesco supermarket is about 3 minutes walk away. The wardens are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The shower block is very clean and the water warm. While there isn't a childrens play area, our children played on an open area to one side of the site. We had lovely day trips to York (20 miles) and Scarborough (44 miles) from here as well as a visit to the market at Thirsk.
