This site is on the outskirts of the lovely town of Houlgate. The site is quite big and the pitches range from reasonably sized to very tiny. Some of the small pitches are right on the roadside and very lacking in privacy. At the far end of the site there is a large grassed area for tents who don't want electric and can pitch wherever they want in this area. This would be fine out of season as you could have plenty of space but in peak season they crowd as many tents as they can into that area and it looked extremely squashed. The pool was very nice and the shop was well stocked. It is quite a long walk into town but when you get there there are lots of nice restaurants and a long sandy beach. A word of warning, when we were there a freak tide came from nowhere and swept a number of people out to sea who had to be rescued by the lifeguards in their rescue boats. I don't know if this is common in this area but it looked quite frightening. The toilets were clean and modern but could be a little busy in peak season. Overall, the site was OK. I would stay on it again for a short stop but will look at others in this area first for longer stays.

We went to this site in our own tent having been before with Keycamp and had good holidays both times.
Good points:pitches are a reasonable size and surrounded by hedges so mostly feel quite private, plentiful, clean toilet facilities including baby baths, two good playgrounds, nice outdoor swimming pool, adequate shop and bar (takeaway not so good). A few pitches on the edges of rows looked a bit cramped, though, and a bit open to passing traffic. The site lays on entertainment in HS - a climbing wall, children's entertainers, entertainment in the bar but this does mean there is a bit of noise late at night at the weekend especially which can be heard all over the site.
There were a lot of French campers using the site both times and since it is set in the grounds of an old manor house (the bar) with apple trees dotted around there is a lovely Norman feel. The second time we went we were issued with wristbands to wear at all times and supposedly these were checked when you went in the pool but in practice they weren't.
The area itself has a lot to offer: beaches along the Cote Fleurie including Houlgate itself, miles of sand at the landing beaches about 30 minutes away, Deauville and Trouville, the very pretty fishing port of Honfleur, WW2 sites, the Bayeux tapestry, the Calvados trail. Houlgate itself is a nice little town with a good selection of restaurants and a market. It is walkable from site. The city of Caen is very near with its challenging ring road! although we didn't actully venture into the city itself. We drove from Calais but the site is obviously very near to Caen if you don't want a long drive.
