Our first review in 20 years of caravanning:. Why now?. Because we have found a little gem of a site, standing within walking distance of the beautiful town of Bressuire.
The owners are an English couple and this is reflected in their friendliness and cleanliness of the site. Set in an oasis of green the pitches are arranged on 3 different levels with an adequate 10 amp per pitch. With only 20 pitches, tranquillity was the order of the day with a swimming pool to cool off in. The toilet facilities were adequate, included a washing machine and were kept in pristine condition, complimenting the rest of the site which was tended on a daily basis.
There was a choice of two walks into the local town, one via the road which was not very scenic but had the lovely large garden centre to pop into. And then there was the slightly longer walk via a river, lake and local chateaux which reminded us of why we made for this part of France.
The owners Robert and Amanda even went out of their way to take us to the local vet when we needed to have our little dog treated for return to the UK. So for a warm welcome from the minute we arrived. Clean facilities and peaceful surroundings this is a site to be highly recommended.

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of of July.
The site itself is pleasant as are the owners who are welcoming and helpful but the sanitary facilities are in need of refurbishment.
The real disappointment is Bressuire. The site's website describes it as medieval. I would describe it as run down and in some parts tatty.
I chose this site on the basis of the description of the town and therefore we were disappointed
|
Management response: During the summer the town has been under a major refurbishment and changes to road layouts which has given this camper the wrong impression of the town as it is not normally like this.
The toilet block is of an old style but very clean and works well. |

June 2012 - Stayed for 10 nights
The approach to the site is through a run down area of Bressuire, which does not give a very good first impression - the final turn in to the site road is a really dodgy right hand manouvre so beware of traffic approaching from the right!
We were greeted on arrival by the site owner Robert, and shown to the pitching area - the site has a couple of choices either 'at the top of the main touring field' or 'down hill towards the bottom of the site' - we chose to pitch on the main field - the pitch was slightly sloping and we chose to pitch on the side near the trees.
There were plenty of UK style hook up points, and a couple of taps for fresh water.
Our only complaint regarding the pitching area was the length of the grass - it was in need of a good mowing when we arrived - and was still the same (but longer) when we left 10 days later.
The toilets and showers were adequate and kept clean and tidy, these probably could do with updating, but everything functioned so no complaints.
We ventured in to the swimming pool this was very good, and well maintained.
Bressuire itself was a big disappointment - quite industrial and run down - however there are plenty of other nice towns within easy driving distance.
All in all a nice site - slightly let down by the surrounding area

The site is actually much smaller than it appears on its website. There are not enough showers or toilets, especially when the site is full. The surrounding area is full of empty factories and run down buildings and there is very little in the immediate area. Quite disappointing really. Whilst we were there, at the peak time, the owner was obviously keen to get as many customers in as possible and we were all to close together. The pool is very nice but remained very cold, even when the weather was very hot

I found this campsite through the UK Campsite website, e-mailed them re. Price and availability and got an almost immediate response. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
The site was easy enough to find using the co-ordinates on the Satnav.
The site itself was relatively quiet when we visited in late June 2010, for just one night, and we were directed to any pitch we wanted to use. We didn't use EHU, but this was available. The pitches were of a good size, relatively flat, and under shade of mature trees if wanted. There were water points on the pitches. The facilities were clean and functional, although there were only 2 showers out of 3 working when we visited.
The owners were friendly and courteous. I would use this site again if in the area.

Well maintained site only a mile away from the town of Bressuire.
Adequate facilities although one of the showers was out of commission whist we were there. Bread delivery service provided.Fabulous pool.
Friendly owners who took time to talk and give advice when asked.
Good supermarkets within 10 mins drive.(We preferred Leclerc)
Lots of little bars in the town.
We especially liked the Mexicano which is situated in the square opposite the station. Their lunchtime snacks were great value. Plat du jour at 7 euro 50, massive omelette and fries for 3 euro 50.
25cl of beer 2 euro 10.
Most of the town shuts down on a Monday!

We set out to work on this site on 2nd March not knowing quite what to expect as it was our first experience of helping on a campsite. We need not have worried. Robert and Amanda Smith, the owners of the site, are two of the most friendly, easy-going people you could wish to meet. The campsite is beautiful, full of wildlife and set in the most rural surroundings but just a short walk from the centre of Bressuire. There are numerous walks from the bottom of the campsite, one leading to a very pretty lake.
Having bought the site 5 years ago, they are continually enhancing the amenities. We were employed this year to maintain the grounds while Robert and Amanda undertook the modernisation of the dishwashing area which now has new sinks and beautiful tiling. The area around the toilet block and laundrette has been transformed by the addition of large wooden planters and a water feature, all beautifully handmade by Robert. These were a riot of colour when we sadly had to come home in mid June.
There is a well appointed playground, beautiful swimming pool, three excellent wooden chalets and 20 touring pitches, all set in a little bit of paradise. Robert and Amanda know the area well and are always willing to have a chat or offer advice on local amenities to the campers. We will be returning next year for longer, we hope. This in itself is a testimony to how idyllic we found the campsite to be. We know how hard the owners work to make everyone's holiday as relaxing as possible. Go and see for yourselves. It will be worth it.

An easy drive down from Le Havre thanks to the sat nav and we arrived on site at around three in the afternoon to be met by Robert who knew who we were from the moment we met.
We were shown onto the site and allowed to choose our own pitch where we settled opposite Brian and Pauline. Because we had come on a night ferry, we needed fresh food to stock the fridge, so Robert gave us very easy directions to one of the two supermarkets within about one mile radius.
Back on site, cup of tea and time to explore - a spotlessly clean swimming pool, immaculate toilets and showers and new plant tubs being tended by assistant wardens Martin and Maralyn along with the rest of the site. There was a water lily in the water feature, and it was fun to watch it grow over the fortnight from nearly one leaf on the surface to a full six.
The site is quiet, mostly English when we were there, although there were French families over the first (Bank Holiday) weekend. Don't expect Butlins, you won't get it. What you do get is Robert and Amanda with plenty of local knowledge of places to go, how long to drive or walk or cycle there (as appropriate.
Staying at Puy Rond is not restricted to a tent or caravan - there are also three excellently fitted out cabins with beds, kitchen and (English) satellite TV at a reasonable price.
For anyone who wants to just relax (as we did) or visit places of interest in Poiteau Charentes, then Puy Rond is the place, it's clean, friendly and not expensive. We as a family will certainly visit again.

After a long, tiring drive, it was great to pull up on site and have Robert personally show us to our pitch. Our motorhome is 25ft long and with this in mind, it was no trouble at all for Robert to allocate us a bigger pitch. Amanda and Robert were both visible on site throughout the day and evening, happy to stop and have a chat and pass on their valuable knowledge of shortcuts to villages, boulangeries and places further afield.
The site facilities were more than adequate, always clean and fresh. Little touches of artwork and beautiful tubs and pots made the washing areas a pleasant place. Washing machine, including line and pegs completed this very camper friendly area. Care and attention had been given to a central area of well stocked plants and decorative spot lights so by evening, it was a great place to sit too.
There was the provision of a well looked after childrens play area, with a short walk to the private, enclosed swimming pool area. This is a real bonus for the site. We couldnt fault this well mantained, lovely facility.
As a family we found lots of places to go and use our bikes without ever needing to move the motorhome from site. There are gentle walks through quiet, leafy lanes.
Our experience of PuyRond was a memorable one. Robert and Amanda have both worked hard to make the site an attractive, pleasant, quiet and relaxing place. This will definitely be a haven for us to return back to without a doubt.

Visited the site in August 2007. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Robert Smith, the owner who showed us to a pitch personally, which seems to be what he does with all his guests. Robert gave us the choice of a couple of pitches, suggesting the one we did then take, which turned out to be a nicely placed pitch. There were about 8 or so caravans and tents on the area we were pitched. All units were well placed. We were about 80 or so feet from the toilet block, which we found useful. All units are in easy reach. I thought however, the toilet and shower block was not the best we had seen in our travels. We intended to stay in the area for 10 days, but cut our stay short to 6 days. I should say this was not due to the campsite itself, but the expectations from the general area.
The site has no club house but does have an outside swimming pool. For anyone wishing to go to a campsite that is nice and quiet and do not wish to travel too far off the site, with nice weather, then this site is ideal.
