We arrived at Mannix Point after a delightful clockwise scenic drive around the Ring of Kerry (I recommend to drive clockwise around the Ring as all the coaches and tourist traffic go anticlockwise so the roads seem quieter). However, unfortunately our greeting on site was cold from someone clearly not the renowned Mr Mortimer. Instead of an expected “Welcome to Mannix etc etc….” we got “You wanna stay?” If it wasn’t for the fact we had pre booked to go to Skellig the day after, I would have drove off and wild camped somewhere. Saying that, we did have a good pitch with a sea view but the grass was long. The toilets were spotless and a nice touch was a radio playing in the background. The site does seem well geared up towards campers as the kitchen etc seemed spot on! Supervalu is 5 minutes stroll away and the market town of Cahirciveen 15. I must say that Cahirciveen is not the most inspiring town but it does all the amenities one needs.

Only came across this site by chance, and could honestly say for us and our likes, that it may well have been one the best campsite to have stayed at. Apparently the site has won many awards for excellence and the owner is quite outstanding, he is most helpful and will even take the time to walk round and select the pitch you want. We ended up with a pitch one could only ever dream of getting, a sea view a few yards from the beach, but carefully sheltered from any sea breezes. The site was very relaxing and everyone seemed most friendly and cheerful. The site is well spaced out and the pitches are of good size, well sheltered, the pitches were all flat and level with easy pegging on grass. Hard standing for the caravans /motor homes most done for a lovely sea views, there is electric hook up available for most pitches tent and caravan. All the facilities are housed nicely in the one traditional type building which blends in to the site nicely. The showers were as usual for Ireland a 1euro token and kept very clean with all the hooks for hanging up the towel and clothes even had quietly piped music playing. The shower block could have done with a couple more showers as at times it was a bit busy and had to wait, but go a little later on in the day and its quite empty. The laundry and wash up area was next to the Camp kitchen where you could make full use of the gas cookers, pots and pans plates etc, a fridge and freezer. This camp kitchen also had a dining area it was a laid out long table banquet style with flowers and a table cloth, bench chairs, or sit outside in the patio picnic garden or barbecue areas. Most evenings in the camper's sitting room with in this same building folk would gather and listen to traditional music played by fellow campers or local musicians who came along. Within 10 mins walk is the town of Cahirciveen with its shops, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets, banks etc, Mannix point is very well place for visiting the ring of Kerry. This site had a very relaxed air about the place, offering such a wonderful setting with sea the views and the terrific owner running the site. We shall defiantly return to this hidden Gem.

Just back from a week at Mannix Point, absolutely fabulous location, we pitched our tent right on banks of river inlet from Atlantic, brilliant view of mountains, water and Valentia Island all round. Nice quiet site, with decent facilities, though they did get a bit stretched as we approached the Cahersiveen music festival weekend. The web site mentions 40-odd pitches but when we left (Friday before festival) we counted over 70 tents/vans. The campers' kitchen has cooking facilities inside (2 x 2 gas rings, microwave and freezer, all free) for those without their own (hikers/cyclists) and both a dining room to eat your meals and a lounge with instruments for those that play. Pitches are all flat and lovely grass, easy for tent pegs! Mortimer the owner is a great personality and as described elsewhere knows loads about the area and is incredibly friendly. He suggested a couple of excellent walks for us and even remembered to ask how we enjoyed them on our return. The free wireless internet was not functioning over all the site (as promised on the web site) but Mortimer indicated this was a recent fault and he was very happy to have you sit right outside his home and log in to his own network if you need to feed your net addiction. The village has 14(!) pubs within 20mins walk and two really well stocked supermarkets within 10mins. Locals generally very friendly and helpful though a couple of the pubs we looked in and quickly left as OH was the only female in sight and we received the 'who are you, coming into our pub?' look from the people in there. Lots to see around here and nowhere near as busy as I'd imagined on the roads of the Ring of Kerry, even for last week in July. Overall brilliant site in a great location, just avoid the Irish Bank Holiday weekend of the festival if you're not there for the music as it got just a bit too crowded.

We had a lovely time despite the weather which ranged from heavy rain and wind, to drizzle, to showers to lovely sunshine. The campsite is a little exposed to the wind as it's on the shore line, and I think we went when it had been exceptionally wet. The field we were in became so boggy and churned up that he had a new roadway installed whilst we were there. (Definitely a site needing either wellies, crocs or flip-flops as your footwear - based on the weather when we were there.) The kids could have spent the whole holiday looking for baby crabs on the shoreline and made friends with the other children, who needs slides and swings when you have that. A wide selection of people arriving by foot, bicycle, motorbike, or car/van, from different countries made it very different (in a nice way) to the normal campsites we stay in. Everyone mixed in the communal sitting room complete with peat fire, and we were treated to both an Irish music night and a Danish (I think) music night whilst we were there. Showers and toilets were fine (though 5 mins for 1 euro goes very fast), it wasn't too busy at any stage. Good kitchen complete with 2 fridges and a freezer (for freezer blocks), perhaps could do with a couple more sinks for washing up at. No shop on site, but just up the road is a supermarket and ATM without going into Cahersiveen itself. A number of beaches and forts to explore locally. We would definitely go again and hope for better weather. The company, atmosphere and the views were brilliant.

What can I say. Great site, great location, superb owner, Mortimer. This site is located in a small town on the ring of Kerry. Sites are spaced well and you can more or less pitch where you choose if in a tent. Facilities include a campers kitchen with gas camping stoves, kettle, sandwich toaster, fridge, freezer all available at no extra charge. There is a dining area next to the kitchen with tables and benches and a separate lounge/sitting room with comfy chairs and peat fire. We were there for 4 nights and didn't go off the site at night time as there were several musicians on site who treated us to a musical performance every night for several hours. Apparently this is a regular thing. Toilets and showers were nice and clean but limited. Only 3 showers in the ladies.could get busy if site is full. Showers are 1 euro for 5 minutes. Great scenery pity about the rain and mist. Hopefully we will revisit again

Family tent . Two children. Beautiful location in a south Kerry town that will really grow on you. The campsite its self is a good mixture of RVs ,Caravans, and big and small tents; all mixed together by a private pebble beach. All facilities except TV Video & Pool etc are available. Therefore it is a very quiet and affable place and perfect for touring the "Ring" However, for those people that are into a bit of craic at night, the local pubs are only 5 mins walk away. Even better, Mortimer (the owner) has seen fit to have a living/sitting room with instruments on the wall for those of a musical bent. In all, an absolutely fantastic site that we will certainly return to again and again. A Chara

This has to be one of the most magnificent settings of any campsite anywhere over looking the island of Valencia and then the Atlantic on the far west of the Ring of Kerry. Mortimer Moriarty the owner is a a welcome host and his local knowledge is superb. The facilities are great with a FULLY equipped campers kitchen & dining room and a sitting room with a peat fire with musical instruments provided plus no telly or games room! The loos and showers were kept spotlessly clean but I guess could be stretched if the site was full. The only word of caution was that our visit was made so successful by glorious weather after 2 weeks of SOLID rain, and having been to Kerry last year the rain does mean it loses some of its charm! If you do venture to Kerry a stay here is well worth while.
