Have stayed at this site many times during my childhood and returned with my husband and two boys en route to/from Dordogne this year. Stayed 3 nights both times, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The town has all that you need in terms of shopping and the site is well maintained and friendly. It is v good value and you get free admission to the adjacent swimming pool.
The river itself provides lots of diversion, we did some fishing and paddling and swimming. Otherwise we amused ourselves playing boules, ping-pong, cycling and meeting the other campers. There are some kids activities with an 'animateur' and one evening there was cider drinking, another there were aperitifs on offer so you get the chance to meet other people if you haven't already.
Very relaxing and easy to get to!

We stayed at this site for one night as a stop over on the way from Dunkirk to the Vendee. Great little site. Good access, even with a large van. Very friendly staff. Large pitches in the main. Good access through site. Toilets adequate, but clean. Lots for kids to do. Would definitely use again for a stop over, but would stay at least 2 nights next time. Cheap as well. Perfect.

This was our first campsite we stayed at for 3 nights out of a total of 7 campsites in France. This place is fab, fab, fab! Our favourite out of all 7.
This is a municipal site and in a beautiful quiet village location. We were made extremely welcome upon arrival, we chose our own pitch although we had been allocated a different one but was no problem. In fact, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It was 50 euros for 3 nights, 2 adults, 2 children, 1 dog and the pitch with electric. Bargain and the cheapest we stayed at.
The children reserved our bread in the evening and collected it in the morning.
The shower block, toilet, washing up room and laundry room were in one building. Another one was near the playground at the lower end of the site right near to the river.
They had tennis courts, mini golf, swimming pool at the entrance to the site (which we did not use). There was 'animation' for the children and we were invited to a party on one of the evenings which my boys enjoyed (well, the food!). There is a shop too, a bottle of red was cheap and flavoursome, a bottle we had purchased in town was off when we opened it.
The town has a lovely river, mill wheels, stunning views up on the hills down into the village. We followed a route in a map that the staff gave us. The views from the castle are also fabulous.
The children went kayaking down the river with my partner and then afterwards jumped in the river and swam for hours. Hence we did not use the pool at all.
I really cannot praise this place highly enough, I would happily spend all next summer holidays there.

Has a look at this municipal campsite. Very pleasant position on the river Sarthe, in the lovely medieval village of Fresnay. Clearly defined pitches bordered by mature high hedges (some felt a little boxy to us) Very pristine and well maintained site with good shower and toilet facilities. There is a swimming pool on site. Which tends to attract young families.
The farther end of the site is a slightly more open wilder area, with pitches that were not so well defined, but during our visit we felt this was a disadvantage as people seemed to be a bit crammed in their. However the position was nice as it was much more accesible to the river. Fine out of season I should think.
There is a canoe hire place just before the entrance to the campsite, and many campers took advantage of this. Even tiny life jackets available for the smallest canoers. You can either splosh around on the river just by the campsite, or they will drop you off 8, 15, 20km away and you can paddle back (be warned the river was low when we went and we paddled and towed the canoe in places .very welcome as it was so hot!) so take some old shoes you can paddle in! Many of the french children were swmmiing in the river by the campsite.
Good site for families
