Just returned from weekend pitched at Derbyshire Hills and will definitely be going back! We were looking for a basic & quiet site in the heart of the Peaks and that's exactly what we found.
They really do make you a cup of tea whilst you put your tent up!
Yes there is only one toilet and are no showers.
The wash room (shed) has sink, hot water, a fridge and microwave.
The views are stunning and there are lots of walks in the immediate vicinity.
Despite being the first sunny/warm weekend of the summer there were only 7 tents on Saturday night. They could fit 20 tents but not if they were all big family tents, that said this is really not the site for young kids.
There is a very nice little pub within walking (15 mins) distance, across fields.
If you want somewhere away from the crowds to really enjoy the Peak District and are not to worried about having lots of facilities this is the place for you.

Wow what a find! The owners brought out tea and biscuits as we erected our tent! How many other's do that?! We put our tent up on the left next to the wall as you drive in. It was quite stoney and had quite a few bent pegs! There were a few others on site, but think there is only room for probably 5/6 tents. They do not accept large dome or multi-pod tents. The last review mentions the campsite could fit 20 tents?? Hmmm don't think so unless you want to right next to your neighbour! This is why it prides itself on being a quiet campsite! In effect you are camping in the owners back garden.
Very safe for children because there is no traffic, except for when they get the tractor out! There is only 1 loo, with a sink, so youre able to clean your teeth and have a shave, but no shower. This wasn't a problem for us, no wait in the morning for the loo and we boiled a kettle to have a wash! There is a shed which has a fridge, electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster and microwave with washing up facilities, also useful for storing wet walking gear in to dry off!
Not long after we arrived, a group of 3 men turned up. During the evening they were quite roudy and the use of very bad language was freely used! As we had our 6 year old Son with us.As you can imagine! There was another family who told them to keep the noise down. In the morning we told the owners about them and when Brenda came home from work, she told them to keep quiet and if she had anymore complaints they would be asked to leave! She reasured us that she took no nonsense at all! And she didn't, we didn't hear a peep out of them again!
The scenery and area are outstanding and we will definitely return! Chatsworth House is a must and not very far away, also Peveril Castle too, with it's spectacular views! We were told that there was a pub a walk away across some fields, we did try but didn't make it because a very large herd of cows blocked the way and were being quite boisterous and as we had a 6 year old that can't run very fast, we decided not to go! There is a pub a short walk away down the single track road, can't remember the name though! It was ok, not terribly friendly publican, food was ok with ok prices. There is a 'waiting' area outside the loo (owners porch) with lots of info on walks and local pubs etc.Very useful!

WOW! This has to be the best site in Derbyshire. All the reviews below still hold true. Brenda greets you with a tray of Tea. Spotless loo with real fluffy towels in and changed several times a day. We stayed in our frame tent on Bank Holiday and the site was full at 20 people. This is because there is just the one loo. However we had loads of space for the Swing ball and for my 7 year old to play football. This is not a site for you if you need a shower as there is not one. However in the shed is a spotlessly clean work top with hot water for washing up, a toaster, fridge and several electric kettles. We did several of the local hikes from the camp site with breathtaking views. Details are supplied at the site. We will be revisiting this site for sure.

Great site for camping - owner welcomes you with a cup of tea, site is very clean and tidy and pitches are of a good standard.
There is a freezer to chill what you need, the pub in Folow is great.
The owner farms the area around so I can only commend him / them for offering such a good site whilst struggling with their other work.
Toilets spotless. No hot water but I suspect that they will fix that - something was broken somewhere !

Fitted us in Bank Holiday - arrived later on and were greeted by the owner who made us coffee. The place is extremely atmospheric and has a farm feel to it - our pitch was in a great position and the views are breath taking. We stayed 3 nights and had a really great time from microwaving curry in the barn area to cycling round Derbyshire cycle paths ! Got to see quite a bit of the owners who are really lovely - very genuine and warm people who couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Would definitely return there - a superb place.

First of all we were well received by Brenda and she offered a tea/coffee when we reached on day 1.
£13/ night seem to be high on a bank holiday, but by the way the site is maintained and with good hospitality, cleanliness of the toilet it deserves.
What else do you need. The site has kettle, microwave, toaster, .
The site is close to Castleton --3 miles.
There is no shower facility, but Brenda and Steve kept the toilet in immaculate condition and with all the leaflets, foods, pubs etc.
Its a small site. But with big hospitality

After being unable to get a pitch at any of the Edale campsites we actually lucked out to our surprise at this lovely little secluded campsite in the lovely Grindlow.
On arrival we had a very friendly welcome and a cup of tea brought to us as we put up our tent. The facilities were more than we expected - how many campsites have a kettle, toaster and microwave? We were saved!
Regarding toilets, compared to other campsites where many muddy boats have walked, the toilet facilities were kept spotless by the hosts continual mopping and replenishing towels.
The site is small, which is in it's favour, because it gives you the feeling of tranquillity by escaping the crowds at large campsites.
All this in a beautiful setting. Our tent overlooked stone walls, hills and woodland.
We loved our stay here and would love to go back soon - many thanks for a lovely weekend!

This is a lovely quiet, secluded campsite in the heart of magnificent countryside. We arrived on bank holiday friday, and had the campsite to ourselves for the first evening. After the long journey it was a nice touch to be offered a cup of tea on arrival.
Brenda and Steve were very helpful and friendly, it made such a pleasant change to the legendary 'Mr 'bl##dy campers' Cooper' of Edale Campsite.
We had a pleasant walk to Eyam, a historical plague village a few km east of the campsite.
Facilities wise the toilet was spotless throughout, and the Lavender and Mango handwash softened my palms.
There's no shower, but we boiled water in the free kettle (great on a cold day for tea) and washed hair in a bowl!
I was just a little disappointed I didn't get to play with the ferret!

We arrived for the weekend and as the the first to arrive were greeted by Steve who showed us a few pitches to choose from, even offered us a cup of tea or coffee. With harvest underway some good hay baling to be seen in the evening and later Brenda ( who handles all enquiries very efficiently by phone or email ) came and gave us more advice on pubs and walks in the area, walking in the area is fantastic and you are right at the heart of it staying at this campsite. There was also a wealth of information on walks and pubs available near the toilet which was kept spotlessly clean, I just wish there was maybe one more toilet, showers I can live without but sometimes you just want to go.
On Saturday night a massive ice machine was set up in the covered washing up area ( which had plenty of hot water ) , and we wished we had brought gin and tonic, it would have been perfect, even in the week Brenda and Steve will supply you with ice cubes/hot water on request. I cannot emphasize enough how friendly and helpful yet not intrusive they are. I was allowed to play with the pet ferret, chickens roamed the campsite in the early hours feeding on scraps.
This campsite is small and secluded & I almost want to write a bad review to keep it to myself. We had a perfect weekend and hope to return.

When we first arrived we were a little concerned at the size of the field as there didn't appear to be an awful lot of grass. We were relieved when we were shown to a slightly lower part of the site where we were given a wonderful choice of pitches. The site is kept in excellent condition and the owners are obviously very passionate about their job as they bent over backwards to help out. Hot water for washing up and ice cubes are available free of charge. They also took the time to make sure we were happy with our pitch and recommended a few pubs / walks / things to do. The weather unfortunately was not on our side and we cut our trip short by one day as we were fed up with the torrential rain! My only concern was the limited toilet facility. There was 1 toilet for the entire site which was just inside the owners farmhouse. It was kept in a pristine condition throughout the trip but at times there were lengthy queues to get in. If this site could somehow provide another toilet and shower facilities then it would be faultless!
