A superb site in a beautiful part of the world.
Good size pitches, most of them having some shade (very useful in the solid 2 weeks of sunshine we had), all with water and waste points. Lots of hedges, bushes, trees (it's quite a jungle, in fact), so easy to get some privacy, if required. However, access can be tricky - we had to push our 7. 5m van onto the pitch.
Pools are great, although you won't get a sunbed after 10am unless you are prepared to pounce on people as they leave.
Toilet blocks excellent - very clean, with paper and never any need to queue at any time.
Restaurant/take-away is reasonable cost but not the greatest food. Much better is the weekly evening food market in St Leon-sur-Vezere, 5 mins drive away - a proper, stereotypical French event, with accordions, long tables with everyone singing along, wine, pancakes - absolutely superb! Shame it's only once a week.
Site shop is quite well-stocked but expensive (there is a large supermarket in Montignac, 5 miles away).
Canoeing from the site (on the river Vezere) is good but their half-day and day trips are quite expensive compared to the numerous companies offering trips on the Dordogne itself.
The town of Sarlat is an absolute must-see, especially in the evening. Medieval buildings, lit up, loads of restaurants (not very cheap admittedly) and loads of very good street entertainers - amazing.
Most of the people on site were Belgian (50%), with about 30% British and the rest French and German.
Not a cheap site at about £50 a night for a family of 4 but worth it.
Some (very) minor gripes:
Didn't see any mosquito's but quite a few flies and wasps.
Not a lot of off-road cycling routes.
No big, local roads, so any journey takes much longer than you'd expect.
My new, favourite part of the world and a great site as well.

Another lovely holiday at Le Paradis. I was surprised to see the last review as we have always found the site very friendly and in fact one of the things we have enjoyed most is socialising with neighbours. We met some great people, quite a few repeat visitors from previous years (lots of families) and also some new faces, and these included Brits and others (Italian, French, Dutch). We do all feel very comfortable there, and the only drawback is that we tend to stay local as we find there's plenty to do in the local area (nice walks etc).
The site is well maintained and we had another lovely welcome from the owner. We used the free herb and fruit garden a lot this time and this is a nice additional feature. I do appreciate sometimes a site just doesn't work for a family, but for us this was another brilliant holiday and we have booked again for 2014. We would recommend this for families although maybe not older teens unless they are very sporty. It was busy but that's to be expected at peak time.

We stayed at Le Paradis for 2 weeks in July - family of four (kids aged 4 and 6) in our own tent. The campsite is fairly compact but it is very pretty. The planting and trees are lovely and pitches were shady. There are 3 pools which were great but pretty packed full all the time. IT was 30 degrees all the time we were there. The bar/shop area is built in courtyard style and again is very pretty, built in stone. The site was quiet at night and it was very safe for kids to cycle around by themselves. Generally a very low key site - little organised entertainment, no water slides etc.
It is on the river so you can hire canoes - about 5 euro for an hour. We also went on a half day canoeing trip organised at the campsite reception - it was wonderful, a highlight of the trip and I would really recommend.
Also great location with tonnes of villages/towns to visit and attractions. Going to the local night markets was super too.
Overall the campsite was great and on paper there is very little to fault. However, to be honest, it wasn't one of our more enjoyable trips. I think it was the people and the atmosphere. People were generally unfriendly. Also 90% of the people there were Dutch, with a few Belgians and English. I always choose campsites which don't have lots of English-speaking people and enjoy being with different nationalities, but maybe this was a step too far. We certainly felt on the 'outside'. I has asked in advance about the kids club as this was very important to my 6-year old and was assured they had one. Indeed they did but they didn't tell me it was in Dutch! My gregarious 6 year old sat quietly in the corner. Very disappointing.
Overall a great campsite, but not great for British/Irish families looking for kids club and some social family interaction! We won't return.

Our 8th time or so at Le Paradis and first time not in our tent as my wife wanted to try the sites own statics which are brand new this year and are superb. Site as always is immaculate and owners and staff very friendly. Indoor pool planned for next year. No canoeing at the time we were there as the river Vezere too high and fast. France has had the same poor spring that we have had.
Well placed for visiting Le Roque, Sarlat, Domme, Monpazier etc. As well as nearby Montignac which is one of our favourites.

Second week of September 2012, Hot, hot, hot.
A busy five star site so can't really add much to what others have said, camping in the middle of a botanical gardens just about sums it up. Pitches are large, flat and well shaded with water and electricity at every one. By this time of year most had the obligatory 'bald patch' with no grass so a footprint is useful. Showers, loos and washup facilities are 5 star. Pool complex is well used but plenty big enough. Restaurant, cafe, shop are good.
Particularly liked the 'shared garden' where, if you were quick, you could pick some of the day's ripe strawberries and collect herbs to enhance the dinner. BBQ's are OK.
Quite liked the local area though we usually prefer less rural settings. Can recommend the gardens at Manoir d'Eyrignac, can't recommend the gardens de l'Imaginaire. Roc de Cazelle was far less busy than Roque St Christophe. Nice walks in the area, including from the site, get a 2 Eur map from reception. Massive street market in Sarlat every Saturday, and a brocante in Montignac.
Not the fault of the site but it felt a bit 'little England' to us with Brits outnumbering Dutch and Germans and very few French, but then the whole area is a bit like that.
We would very definitely recommend the site but probably won't revisit the Dordogne region, it's just not really our scene.

This is a beautiful site with some stunning planting. The site is simply laid out with 10/12 pitches per row, and we chose Eucalyptus pitch 8 (cost - 20 Euro)at the time of booking. This is a huge pitch, and easily accommodated our caravan, awning and car with plenty of space left over for the kids to play. However if you want shade this isn't the pitch for you.
We had a very warm welcome at Reception from Eric, and were invited for our complimentary welcome drinks when we were all set up. We were given a bottle of red wine upon departure - which was a very nice touch too.
We used the pools every day and although always busy, we never had to fight for a sun lounger. The toilet and shower blocks were very clean and once again we never had to wait.
We can highly recommend Castelnaud for a day out, especially if you have children.

This really is a superb site so no need to repeat what other reviewers have said about all its good qualities. We enjoyed a week here without once moving our motorhome. We cycled about 12 miles into Montignac on market day via the back road which was quieter and has a lovely view across the river of Chateau du Losse. We also canoed upriver from the site to St Leon. It was pretty easy - we only had to walk the canoes up the rapids just outside the village. Then we canoed home after a few lazy hours playing in the rapids and picnicing by the river. There is a brilliant rope swing near the bridge in St Leon - you land in the river. You can also jump from a ledge into 3m of water. We didn't dare copy the French teenagers jumping from trees about 15m up.
The site has two good quality tennis courts but we only played once as it was very hot - 37C - in the third week of August. The river was our saviour - its about chest deep as it runs alongside the site and seemed really clean. We saw dozens of foot-long fish a few hundred meters down river.
I would suggest visiting Roque St Christophe in the early evening (it's open until 8pm) because it gets quite crowded during the day and the high ledges are narrow.

Another brilliant holiday! We even stayed an extra night!
It was very hot when we arrived but the site coped with this and all facilities running well (eg bathroom area clean and tidy even though it was in constant use). We had a warm welcome on reception as always. Wonderful floral planting and generally nice atmosphere makes this a very special place. Had some lovely times just sat down by the riverside in the evening.
The staff all seem happy and relaxed and the animations staff all seem to really like the children. I'm not sure what I can add to last years review as it was all very good again. We have booked already for 2013.
We had quite a bit of food from the bar/restaurant this time, all very nice. The staff were helpful and efficient. The shop is well stocked and includes local produce (fruit, veg), and open till around 7pm (I think). We met so many repeat visitors too, and some of the people we got to know this year have booked again for 2013. We would highly recommend this site.
We had some lovely times in the local area too. Had a nice but fairly rustic meal at riverside in St Leon (next to the church so you need to find this first), and another nice one on riverside (next to Irish bar)in Montignac (very good pizza, about 60e for four for two courses and wine). Best deals are actually the set menus although we didn't do this. We went to Roc St Christopher one day, very impressive views and history (about 24e for four).
We did canoeing from St Leon to campsite, again, very nice, although it was hot! It was about 17e. We also hired bikes for an hour from the site and did the riverside bike ride one day (about 5e for an hour for two I think), although the best deal is for a few days hire - which I did for the children.
We would really recommend this site, especially to young families. If you have late teens (16-18 year olds) with you then you may struggle as there is not much 'night life' as such on site other than the bar/restaurant area but it depends what you want, as if you like sports and outdoor things then this is perfect. As we left (yesterday) there seemed to be more older couples arriving and I think this is to do with European school holiday time.
So, overall, a really good site.

Our 7th or 8th stay at this beautiful site and it gets better every time. It is now a 5 star site and they win major awards every year. You get a welcome drink on arrival and a bottle of wine when you leave (not many sites do that). Campingcheques are not accepted in June but they do a 3 nights for 2, so whilst it is more expensive its not that bad and well worth the extra for such a lovely site.
Every year there are improvements some of which people may not notice. E. G. This year they had concreted the roads leading to the pitches and shower blocks instead of the shale that they used to be. This is a big improvement in the rain and probably cost a lot to do but not something that people would comment on. New pergola walkways to some of the site areas are a lovely touch.
The owners, the Kusters family are lovely people and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. A lot of the staff have been at the site for years which says a lot for the owners (one of the ladies in reception is in her 20th year).
Wifi is site wide and of good quality and broadband speed. Thought it was a bit expensive at first but compared to other sites it wasn't. We bought the 10€ for 9 hours package and it easily lasted us the full 12 days we were there. So nice to be able to use it on your pitch instead of having to go to reception or bar area. We used it mainly for Skype or email to keep in touch with family back home.
We still rate this as the best site in France which is why we keep going back as do lots and lots of people as we meet the same people every time we go so they must be doing something right.
Keep up the good work Le Paradis.

Wonderful campsite. Area is very pretty and there are lovely walks in either direction. Its family run and the owners are very involved - providing hikes, canoeing, etc. Really nice atmosphere for children, feels very safe and staff very attentive. Shop, bar, take away all very clean and well stocked - bit pricey but only the same as other sites. Bakery on site each morning for pastries - lovely! All facilities are open long hours at peak time. Library for books to borrow. Internet and washing facilities available. Go carts and bikes for kids available. Plenty of free low key kids 'animations' run by family members - they provide hats and drinks and they seem to really enjoy being with the children. Kids all seem to like the staff too. Pitch size excellent and they all have some shade. Really plentiful and clean sanitary facilities.
This is a very special place, with pretty planting and a great family run atmosphere - we will be going back for longer. We met lots of people who keep going back and the staff seem to be family members or ones that have been there a long time. They are keen to help and chat and take a real pride in the campsite.
