Stayed for 1 night with EHU, which required a longer cable than I had to reach the junction box near the entrance to the field. Fortunately the pub has spare cables if you ask.

There are 2 fields - one for the 5 motorhomes/caravan pitches and one for tents. There is a nice toilet/shower/washing-up building, but I made the mistake of going for a shower just before 8am and everything was being cleaned, something to bear in mind if you want an early start.

The pub staff were friendly and the meal in the pub very good and reasonably priced (though I realized later that I was not given the early-bird discount I think I should have received).

Mobile phone and 3G reception was good. Will definitely use this site again.

This place is a little gem! I will certainly be going back. Very friendly and helpful owner (Gareth) and staff.

The site is grass but plenty of room. The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water and even a freezer and phone charger. If you like flat walking along river banks then this is the place to go, even the animals will wander over and talk to you in their own way.

The pub has brilliant food, and plenty of it at a reasonable price. The log fire is so relaxing and no telly makes this the ideal place to just talk.

All in all this really is a little gem hidden away between Chester and Wrexham, very easy to get to and offering a quiet weekend or the the city scenes all within a ten minute drive

Just return from a three night stay at this little site. The landlord is very friendly, no rules, only common sense. The toilets and shower and the washing up area were spotless, two unisex toilets and one shower which was great for the size of the site. Plenty of space between the units and as its only 5 pitch site it was full. The pub with a log fire and good ale and a very reasonable heart warming food was an added bonus. So much around the area, Wrexham, Oswestry, llangollen, horseshoe pass, denby, mold, Chester all within a short driving distance. Site fees are very reasonable too £11 a night including ten amp ehu it was a hit for us as its so quiet and clean plus the welcome we got in the pub definitely be returning a few time this year its a must site

Arrived on site quite late so once we were all set up we decided to go for dinner in the pub that evening. My three children loved the food and were made very welcome by the staff. We even left some playing cards there that evening which were promptly returned to us. Food was excellent and pub has a wide selection of good beers.

The field was well kept and pitches were well spaced with plenty of room for manoeuvring your van. Adjacent was a tent field which wasn't in use while we were there so doubled as a football field for my 3 boys.

Elec. Is only 10amp so ended up tripping it in the evening as it was cold so when heater and microwave were on together we lost power. This may however be OK for a smaller family group who require less appliances etc.

Toilets are functional if a little poorly constructed. The shower was powerful but the water did not drain away to the point that is was flowing under the door. Implement were made available for you to direct the water into the drain. The shower cubical itself was very spacious.

Spent 5 great nights on this fantastic site. The facilities are first class for a small site, toilets and shower are spotless, The pub offers top class food at very reasonable prices. The staff are all very helpful and are a great source of information to help find some of those out of the way places worth visiting. Taking only 5 vans means that vans are not cramped for space. There are a couple little extras for those in the camping field, as tent do nt have hook ups they provided a charging point for mobile phones and free freezer facilities.

Many thanks for the great time we had

We have just arrived back after staying for the night at The Griffin Campsite, there was 4 adults and 1 infant and never camped before and the staff were very helpful and even said they would help if we couldn't get the tent up. We thought the site was great and very roomy and very flat. There was a bit of sheep poo around but the staff apologised for this. We had a lovely meal in the pub in the evening which was amazing food and not too expensive and the locals were very friendly even with a crying baby for a short time. The indoor cleaning facilities very good and clean with free phone charger socket, all of this being under cover. It had a freezer and washing up area and very adequate cleaning facilities with two toilets and one large shower room. The site seemed that to have been newly renovated with new lights around the site and very useful signage around the bin area and outdoor waste disposal point. Thanks a lot for a great stay and will definitely be returning soon as it was only £10 per night for a large 6 man tent.

We stayed at this site for a week. It is a very quiet location, with the campsite at the rear of the Griffin Inn.

We decided on this campsite as I was revisiting the place I was born, some 50 years after leaving! I wanted to visit Trevalyn Manor, as that is where I was born. I also wanted to visit Wrexham, as my father had been stationed there in the Army, and also Chester, because my parents took me there a lot as a toddler.

As we tow a small car behind our motorhome, we had no problems getting about and found it easy to get to Wrexham and Chester. We also visited Rhyl and Llangollen, again with a car both were only around a half hour drive away.

As for the site itself, it was well kept and very clean. It had a shower room with toilet, plus a separate toilet, all kept clean despite the rainy weather making things a bit muddy. There was a pot washing area. Also a power point for charging mobile phones or sat nav.

The only criticism I would have is to do with the shower. The water runs away from the drain, so before you can think about getting dried and dressed, you have to use a large squeegee to direct the water to the drain! A duckboard could be useful.

All in all, it was a very nice site, good value at £10 a night, and would definitely stay there again.

Just come back from a 2 night stay at this site.

The site is behind the pub, and only allows 5 units at a time, whether it be tents or Caravans. So it is never over crowded and they all have electric hook up.

There is a very clean shower block, which you are given key access to, this includes 2 toilets and a shower room. The whole unit has a heater inside which is left on all the time, so it isn't cold. Although we didn't use the shower the water at the sink is always very hot. Even though the ground was wet and a little muddy due to the rain, the unit was kept very clean. There are also washing up facilities which are undercover.

The pub itself is very friendly and the locals welcoming. The food here is meant to be very good, although we didn't eat here ourselves.

It is a 1 mile walk up a country lane into the village of Rossett and a local shop and a couple more pubs.

The site is a little further away from Chester than we anticipated and were told a return taxi into Chester from the site would be approximately £50.

Overall the site was clean and pleasantly quite for a weekend stay, and at only £10 a night very good value.

Just had a 2 night stay here, the site is quite small but perfectly maintained, food in the pub was superb and very good value, staff were great and will be returning.
Wrexham is about 10 mins away in the car, with loads of shops and supermarkets, the only thing to mention on the downside is that the chemical disposal point was the toilet in the shower room.
It was lambing season and the field next door was full of them, noisy during the afternoon but at night they were quiet !

Arrived Friday afternoon, it was wet so I got stuck, that's front wheel drive for you., no prob friends 4x4 helped out. Got sited, weather dried up, grass dried out, brilliant !
Site was 5 van, hook ups as well. Toilet and shower was very clean, the owner very helpful and friendly. He was fitting lights to fence, new fencing, new elsan point. Everything was clean and tidy.
We ate in pub on Friday night, oldy worldy type pub with black iron fire place, logs blazing away. The food was excellent, service was excellent.
We could not fault the site especially when the owner is trying to improve it and is doing a good job so far. They also have a rally field, which we have booked for later in the year.
We fully recommend visiting this site, but advise phoning first and booking. Shopping in Wrexham is great, or Chester, Sunday market and boot sale at chirk, or toddle over to llangollen for the motor museum or the steam train.
