 Stayed at Camping La Viorna as a base during our first visit to the Picos de Europa, Liebana, Cantabria with wife, 3 children (10,10,6).
What grabs you first about the area is how scenic it is. As you enter the area by the narrow winding road through the mountains, and on almost every side within the area you see another beautiful mountain view.
The welcome to the campsite was good. They speak some English in the office, shop and bar. The nature of the trade come late August is very transitory and there were slots available. A lot of people use the site as an overnight base especially those trekking through the picos. Either for that or longer stays the pitches were adequate in size.
The washing, showering, toilet facilities were all excellent and maintained to a high standard throughout each day.
The on site shop stocked a variety of goods and in many cases these were competitively priced.
There is an on site restaurant and this was busy although we didn't actually use it ourselves.
The site has an excellent pool which was very welcome either for camping by for the whole day, or for a quick dip.
There is a small playground with swings and some other games.
It's possible to pickup a wireless internet connection close to the club house on site.
The site is close to the town of Potes, a regional centre and the nearby monastery of Santo Toribio. Both are well worth a visit.
I would certainly recommend this site. There wasn't anything not to like. It's reasonably quiet and we had no qualms letting our children go to play in the park. It has good facilities and is also close to a local centre that's both interesting to visit and has other facilities (supermarket).
On this trip the weather was mainly very sunny / hot. As such we chilled by the pool for most of the time, I found it amazing just to sit in the pool and marvel at the views in each direction. However there is a wealth of outward bound activities available in this area and one can find their own balance to suit.
One issue to resolve, to learn a little more Spanish before our next visit.
