Just returned from a three night stay at Home Farm and what a pleasure it was stopping on this little site. The lady owner was a lovely helpful lady, she was about if you needed her but never mithered you. The hardstandings are even and level with rolled stone and plainings and ehu for each one and a drinking water tap nearby. There is also a portacabin in one corner with shower toilet and a camp kitchen and dish washing and loads of books and pamphlets if you wish to borrow them. In another corner there is a portaloo but with proper flush toilet and wash and basin and elsan disposal point and everything was spick and span.
Five minutes walk to the right of the gate crossing between two reservoirs is a lovely bowling club where you could have a drink and something to eat and everyone made very welcome. There is another pub to the left of the gate an easy ten minutes walk. Horwich and Addlington are five minutes in the car with plenty of shops and pubs and cafes.
The views from site are fantastic looking over to Winter Hill. The only problem I can see about this site is its only five van job and site for few tents and to see every hardstanding taken in November I can see a bit of a problem getting on unless you book well in advance. I can assure you I be doing just that in the very near future, its a little gem

We visited the site this month. Christine was very helpful she took us to our pitch. We had a lovely view from our tent. It is a clean and tidy site. Horses in the fields very relaxing to watch. The toilet and shower cabin was clean and sufficient.
The children seemed to love the little forest and rope swing. You can walk to the bowling green club by turning right out of the site in a steady 10min walk for a drink and snack/sandwich. Other places/pubs close by. The road noise is minimal and will not spoil your stay.
We met very friendly helpful campers. We will be visiting again and again. We have camped in many places and found this site very good value for the price we paid. Lovely walks around the area great for dog walkers too

Home Farm is a great campsite. We had an overnight stay with quite a large group of people (32 of us in around 10 tents varying from 2-man to 8-man) and there was plenty of space to accommodate us all plus plenty of other campers.
The on site facilities are basic but excellent and include a cabin with shower/changing room, a toilet and a small kitchen with a sink, fridge and kettle (great for brewing up without having to get the camp stove out!). The cabin was clean and well maintained. There is also a portaloo with a plumbed in toilet which was also very clean and well kept. We were in tents but there are also spaces for campers/caravans with electrical hook ups which looked find.
Christine who runs the site is really friendly and helpful, as were all the locals. The farm itself is a lovely site with plenty of horses in the surrounding fields which the kids loved. There's also a little wooded area at the back which all the kids played in (with rope swings etc) which was close enough to the camp to let them play but still be safely in checking distance!
The Bowling Green tea rooms is a short walk away and was a really pleasant pitstop for icecream and coffee.
The reservoirs are a stones throw away from the camp and the surrounding countryside is lovely. Rivington Hall Barn and Rivington Pike are great for walking and there is a 'Go Ape' close by.
We are actually pretty local to the site but we will definitely be booking back in for some weekend trips over the rest of the summer. A hidden gem I think.
Couldn't recommend the site more. It's a great place.

We have stayed at this site numerous times over the last 12 months and every time we return the owners have made it even better than the last time.
Fantastic views from every angle and the kids love the rope swings in the woods.
The owners are just what you want, friendly but not popping up every 5 minutes.
The washroom is always clean and the use of a kettle and fridge freezer is a nice touch. The horses come over for a peek in the evenings and the pubs are a short walk away.
For the money you couldn't do better. We will be back very soon. Thank you to Home Farm.

This is a very pleasant no-frills site with a helpful owner. There is a small cabin containing toilet, shower, changing facilities, kitchen and local information (along with a few books to read if you need them).
The facilities are basic but provide everything you need - especially useful to have a little kitchen for those who just have a tent. We went on a quiet day, so don't know how the facilities would cope when the site is full.
However,at £8 for a tent for 2 it provided excellent value for money.

Just got back from a couple of very windy nights on this site! We relocated from Wilcocks Farm which was higher up on the hill and very exposed.
Home Farm is a very pleasant small certified site. Good value, inclusive of electric, awning and facilities. The owner is friendly, and accommodated us without prior booking. We pitched on the grass, which was on a gentle slope.
Everyone on the site was friendly, location was lovely, just by the reservoir at Rivington. There is a van which came around daily selling newspapers and a few provisions.
Toilet block is basic, but adequate for the size of site. One shower and one toilet, plus a tea making area and use of a fridge for the tenters. There is easily accessible fresh water, and a chemical waste disposal point.
Lots of cows and horses for the kids to look at, plus a little wooded area to play in with a couple of home made rope swings.
A good, basic, value for money site.

We stayed here towards the back end of Feb 2011, in a motorhome, right on the back of a rainy spell. I've seen one of the past reviews saying it's like a 'building site', but don't know where they're coming from to be honest - after all the rain that was put down prior to our arrival, there were no issues whatsoever with lack of drainage on our hard-standing pitch. In fact, on the morning of our departure, it literally poured down, and there was still no water-logging of our pitch, and our motorhome pulled away easily without even the slightest indication of wheelspin.
But anyway, back to the site.
As I mention above, superb location - fantastic for walking (especially for dog owners like us), near enough right on the bank Rivington Lower reservoir. We did a full walk round the Lower rezzer, then up round Yarrow rezzer, then down through the old estate road which runs next to the Upper Rivi rezzer (you can't miss it - big stone cottage on the corner) - see if you can spot the dog grave stone, just before the big hall - then follow the road through, and you come out almost straight-facing the site entrance.
Christine (the owner) is extremely helpful, and given the site is meant to be a 'certificated location', the facilities are amazing (obviously the minimum requirement of toilet disposal, but on top of that a shower room, indoor toilet, kettle for brewing up, kitchen area for doing the dishes, fridge / freezer, an honesty library, and loads of info on the local area and history).
To put things into perspective, we've previously paid £20 a night to stay on a site which doesn't touch this one facility-wise - let alone on location, all for the cost of £11 a night for us.
For those who enjoy a nice pint after a days' walk, a Real Ale pub (Bay Horse) is 10mins walk away - a cracking pint, and great food. The Bowling Green is less than 5mins walk away from the site, but we didn't go there ourselves so can't comment (to get to the Bay Horse, you hang a left out of the site, up to the T-Junction, then right, then follow the road round, you can't miss it. For the Bowling Green, hang a right out of the site entrance, and it's just down the road on the left).
We know this area very well (given we are relatively local - 20mins drive way), and can't understand the negative comment which has been made towards this site. In our opinion, it's truly unfounded.

We found this site very relaxing and de-stressed during our holiday, beautiful surroundings with on site shower ect. Use of a fridge and a kettle if required, Christine very friendly and helpful. Close to all walks around Rivington, the former estate of Lord Leverhulme, All locals very friendly, a nice cafe/ pub within walking distance where you can purchase home made cakes and watch or play a game of bowls.Bay Horse pub within walking distance were you can purchase hot and cold meals which was very nice.
There is a go ape activity centre nearby for children, teenagers and adults who are adventurous enough, we had a great time and we will be booking again, we highly recommend this small site for anyone wishing to get away from the ratrace.

Bit disappointed with this site, the hardstanding was a bit like a builders yard. But the portable cabin facilities were spotless and the views from the site was fabulous.
No pub or shops within walking distance, but if the weather is good the bowling club may be open, they sell fantastic cakes and have a bar where a pint of Fosters went down a treat after a 5 mile walk to the top of Rivington Pike.
Lovely area with fabulous walks from site.
Owners comments: We are only a small certificated site and only need to offer a chemical disposal point, but I offer 5 electric hook-ups with hard standings as well as shower, toilet and kitchen facilities. The hard standings are not like a "builders yard", they are made from loose stone and road planings.
The comment that there were "no pubs or shops within walking distance", is untrue. The Bay Horse Pub is only 10 mintues away and our nearest village Adlington is about 15 minutes walk. The Bowling Club that he mentioned is open every day, except Tuesday

This was our first trip to Home farm and we will certainly be going again. It's very close to where we live but as it was the first time we had taken our one year old we thought it best to stay near home just in case she didn't take to it.
Home farm certainly helped her enjoy her stay with the great camping and caravan field with horses and all sorts of birds to see. The toilets were always clean and baby bath was provided in the shower room, which was a great help before bed.
For the older kids there's a bit of a wooded area near the entrance to the farm which has a rope swing and is great to explore. Rivington is great for walks, long or short. Food at the bottom barn is very expensive though. A great site well worth a visit.
