First time in Portnadoran and will definitely be returning. I've been to a few sites in Arisaig and I must say this is the best.
Beautiful views looking out to sea from the site, within easy walking distance to beach. Managed to get an amazing sunset whilst barbecuing on the beach. Beautiful white sands and clear blue sea.
Excellent price for a large tent and hook up at just £16 per night. Nice flat ground and very easy to pitch the tent (no need for a mallet for pegs). Owners very friendly and arranged an extension for our hookup. Very friendly site with a lot of regular seasonal pitchers and regular visitors. Very relaxed and chilled out place I've ever been too.
Toilet block basic but clean and more than adequate, there are two showers, one in the toilet block and one in the building opposite but I would recommend waiting on the walk in shower in the opposite building (best ever shower I've had on a campsite, although last day was a cold shower).
Going across on the Sea Bridge Ferry to knoydart was an experience in itself, once there had the most amazing seafood platter in the Old Forge pub. Visited Mallaig most days for fresh fish to put on the barbecue at nights.
This holiday has topped almost all foreign holidays I've had. One of the most amazing and beautiful places in all the world.
Can't wait to return and discover the many more sites Arisaig and its surroundings has to offer.

We have just a fabulous week here. We actually arrived a day early on to a totally full site - I hadn't checked the dates I'd booked - but the site owner politely tried to take the blame instead of making me look an idiot.
Yes, their dogs run free, but it is a working farm, complete with sheep and hens and a rather noisy, but very friendly, turkey that likes being fed crusts!
I never found the loos anything less than immaculate, and my menfolk agreed they could say the same. I didn't have a shower but my DD and DS said they were fine.
It was quiet and calm and the views were to die for - especially the fantastic sunsets that had loads of people out braving the midges.
We had some great walks including along the beautiful shores of loch Morar, where the cuckoos were in good voice. We had a lovely trip to Mallaig for fish and chips, and a trip to Glenfinnan where we watched the Jacobite train puffing its way across the Harry Potter viaduct.
But for me the best thing of all was seeing otters. I was lucky enough to spend an hour (very early) watching a female and her pups swimming and playing out in the bay and for that chance alone I'll be back, although next time with a kayak if I have to beg, borrow or steal one!

The pitches are very close together with electric hook up cables being run across the vehicle access paths.
The toilets and showers were old and often dirty and there was rarely anyone around to report problems to. You have to pay for hot water and showers. Inconvenient if you don't have the correct coinage.
I think they were in the process of building additional toilet blocks.
Due to lack of space children were running around between the various units.
The plus is the views and location, they are fabulous, with easy access to the beach.
The prices are comparable to others in the area.

Just returned from a fabulous week's camping trip to the West Coast of Scotland. However we spent our first two nights at this site which is located right on the beach, which is great especially for canoe/kayak user's, unfortunately this is probably the site's only redeeming feature.
As other people have mentioned, the site is very basic but that is no excuse for the dirty sinks which were always filthy in the male washroom. Having said that the female washroom was always clean.
The site operates a 'dogs must be on a lead' policy which people generally adhered too, it's just a pity that the site owners did not follow the same rules with their own numerous dogs which were allowed to roam freely and foul wherever they chose. Not what you want especially when you are staying in a tent!
We also experienced the same atmosphere on the site as Craggybend with a large group of 'regulars' who didn't exactly make our arrival welcoming.
Needless to say a return trip to this site is definitely a no no

We visited this site at the end of August for 4 nights, and really enjoyed our stay.
The toilets were clean and stocked with toilet paper and automatic soap dispensers. You pay 20p for female showers, 50p for male showers, hot water for dishwashing is 10p (there is only one sink) and £2 for washer or tumble dryer.
Although people who are looking for a luxury campsite will not like this site, it was ideal for our family, with direct access to white sandy beach, rock pools, ponies, sheep and pigs on the croft and only £12 a night for 2 adults, 4 children and family tent!
There are lots of other beaches nearby, shop and post office in Arisaig (a couple of miles away) and cycle route near the main road to Mallaig.
Evening views of the sunset over Eigg and Rum were amazing and midges were only bad on one morning!

This is a fantastic campsite, with stunning views & beautiful sunsets! This is the perfect spot for any kind of camping or caravanning holiday (very friendly & welcoming!).
The site also has its very own lovely sandy beach, perfect for walking the dogs & for watersports, which was very popular in this particular spot. The local pub/restaurant is within walking distance from the site, which was very lovely!
The facilities on site were great! Always kept spotless & very clean!
The children had a fantastic time & we will certainly be returning to Portnadornan in the very near future!

Just spent four days here camping with the family, adults and children. The weather wasn't great the whole time but we made the most of it and were certainly never bored ! A great escape from city life !
The site is situated right on the beach, and the views are out of this world. I have been to many luxurious beaches around the world, and by far this is one of the nicest locations I've been too! With surroundings like this there is certainly no need for children's play areas, if kids cant, t have fun here, then there there parents should take them somewhere else, bring your bat and balls, frisbee and football and get down the beach.
Our pitch was a great size and we did not feel like we anybody intruding our space, we did not have an electric hook up but they are available if you need them, for a small extra cost. We stayed for 4 nights and cost £10 a night now you cant complain at that.
The toilets and showers are clean but basic, water pressure is not amazing but the water is hot and certainly better than washing in a river, if its luxury your after go to a hotel, to me it was all part of the fun of the camping experience. The ladies showers are 20p for 3 mins and the mens 50p for 3 min, there are plugs in the toilets if you wish to use your hair dryer. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer if you need for a small cost. Also a washing line which was great for airing your towels on when been in the shower.
Audrey and Ernie the camp site owners were very helpful and friendly, if there, s any problems they do there best to resolve it right away, the campsite is tidy, and lots of wild life around,
All in all this a great wee campsite, if your looking for luxury then go to one of these campsites that charge £25 a night to pitch your tent, or stay in a hotel. If your looking for a nice relaxed, friendly atmosphere then this is definitely the place to go, some of the people there have been going for years, to me this a very good sign.
Mallaig, loch Morrar, and Fort William are all near by.

The campsite is situated down a small lane. The site itself is situated right by the beach, the views are stunning. Most of the site is quite flat and even. You can be on the beach within minutes. Although right by the beach; the site itself is quite sheltered, a bonus for the tent dweller. Wildlife in abundance.
However the site is not without its problems. There are no facilities for children, playground/play area etc. No ball games allowed. Disabled facilities, nil.
The toilets/are very very basic. Male showers need 50p which lasts about 2 mins. They are clean after a fashion. It has Electric hook up, but a lot of wires about, gang plugs in plastic feed bags. Dogs, are allowed, however there is a lot fouling, some right by pitches. The site is okay, but probably ten years behind the times.
There appears to be one large group of regulars who tend to dominate the site and are not very friendly.

Family friendly campsite with stunning views. Plenty to occupy children with beautiful sandy beaches and rockpools to explore. Plenty of room to cycle round campsite for smaller children. Lots of new friends made both children and adults
Very good value for money.
Great base for walking, cycling and canoeing.
Lots of wildlife to be seen, otters, seals, basking sharks, minke whales, also sheep and pigs.
Local facilities include shops, swimming pool, small Island cruises, visitor centres, thai takeaway, local walks and 'Harry Potter' steam train.

We spent 4 weeks at Portnadoran, what a fantastic holiday, golden sands, fantastic views and lovely people. There was even a nice wee guy who invited us out on his boat to sea fish.
It is a working croft with chickens, horses, sheep and pigs, facilities are basic but clean.
Our kids didn't need a play park, there's a beach, rocks and loads of other kids who were very friendly towards them. It was the same for us with the regulars - maybe its a personality thing.
Great site, owners are laid back and very helpful.
Will definitely be back next year!
