I spent many summer holidays as a child in Penmaenmawr and was delighted to find this child and dog friendly campsite just 5 mins drive away in Dwygyfylchi. On arrival you drive through the static caravan park to arrive at Pendyffryn Hall which houses the Reception and Bar with Family Room. There is a lovely exterior decking area with super views. Easy access to this site from the A55 which makes it ideal for visiting our favourite places in North Wales - Conwy & Betws y Coed / Snowdonia. We had booked an electic hook up pitch which dictated where we should pitch our tent (behind a large oak tree) as the pitches are not allocated, which could cause problems if site is really busy. It would have been helpful to know that there is rock about 2 inches below surface of grass (so you need to hammer in pegs at quite a sharp angle) as we did consider moving tent when we struggled to get pegs in ground, but a friendly neighbour came over to let us know the whole site is on rock! The upside of this, is that you are nestled at the bottom of 'our mountain', as the kids called it, which was covered in beautiful purple heather and there is a lovely walk (for the dog) along the base of the mountain to a magical dingly dell with small pond. The campsite is situated a good walk from the toilet block, as you have to walk through the touring caravan site to reach it. A security code is required for access which meant the kids couldn't nip to the loo on their own but 9 times out of 10 the Ladies shower/toilet block door had been wedged open anyway. There is a great playground for the kids and a few picnic tables. There is a good selection of takeaways in Penmaenmawr (who will deliver, although we never risked that option!) who offer discounts if you are staying at Pendyffryn. We also spent many hours on Penmaenmawr Beach, which is dog friendly, with the kids skimming pebbles, playing tennis, body-boarding and really convenient parking which is never full.

We're very sad to have just finished our short holiday at Pendyffryn Hall. It was a very last minute booking (on the day) but they were able to accommodate us despite being a site mainly for static owners and seasonal caravans.
First off, the location is ideal; straight off the A55 so just 50 miles / 45 mins from England (Chester) and easy access to Conwy / Llandudno. The surroundings are breathtaking; we pitched at the bottom of a mountain with a sea view that stretched for miles. The only downsides to this are that you only have about 3 inches of soil before you hit rock (which isn't an issue if, like us, you come prepared with rock pegs) and we had one windy day as there's no shelter from the coast.
The surrounding area is fantastic; all our day trips were less than 10 miles away. Conwy Castle is amazing, well worth repeatedly climbing towers and town walls for views of the area. There's an outdoor shop in the town for any camping equipment you may need (our airbed had a slow puncture) and a supermarket if the local shop does not suffice.
Facilities on site are excellent for the price of the site. The hall has a bar (and adjoining family bar with board games to borrow), a snooker room and games room. Unfortunately the games room was closed the whole time we were there, apparently for maintenance but there was enough to keep us entertained without it. My only grievance with the site is the shower in the facilities block. In the ladies there were two but one appeared to be permanently locked from the inside. Luckily the site is quiet and most units have their own facilities so I never had to queue. You have to press a button on the outside of the shower cubicle and then it runs for 10 mins. I only know this because my husband mentioned the information sign in the gents; there isn't one in the ladies. Once inside there is no curtain and no hooks to hang clothes or toiletries so you pretty much have to wait out the 10 mins in the shower to avoid getting wet whilst drying / dressing. This tiny improvement would make a massive difference to the shower experience.
My kids loved the adventure playground and there are nearby picnic benches which we occupied for our meals on the sunny days. The whole site had a really safe and family friendly feel to it.
Overall a fantastic site; it's not a 5* experience but it's a great value way to get up close to some spectacular scenery.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner and our two year old daughter.
The location of the site was really good for us with a beach in walking distance and easy access to the A55 to get to all the surrounding towns easily. Yes, you can hear the A55 but we didn't find it a problem even when there were overnight roadworks on the slip road.
The tent field is quite a walk away from the toilets and showers and the walk isn't lit at night so take your torch! There are electric hook ups, I think there were 3 points that have 4 sockets in each but if you aren't lucky enough to be near to one, you till need a long lead to reach them. We were next to one so no problems for us but it was a bit of a stretch for some with wires trailing across the field.
The ground is hard but we were prepared with hardground tent pegs thanks to the reviews on here and didn't have any problems pitching but there were a lot of bent tent pegs clinging onto some people's tents. Don't go without the right pegs, wouldn't like to see how some tents would have fared if the weather had taken a turn.
The children's playground is excellent.
We didn't go in the clubhouse but there was a friendly feel around it.
The toilets are what lets the place down for me. The shower cubicles are basic with rubber matting on the floor that isn't too comfortable on your feet. The shower head is fixed to the wall quite high up. You do get a good ten mins of hot water but they you can't adjust the temperature which isn't helpful with a toddler in tow. To be honest, I think the toilets and showers need much more than regular cleaning, they need a good refurbish and overhaul. If they did that, this would make it an excellent site rather than an adequate one.
The washing up facilities are covered but the sinks were left dirty by previous campers. The problem here is more to do with camper etiquette rather than the site not cleaning them.
Overall, this site suited us for a cheap getaway with good access to the fun days out that North Wales has to offer. If the toilets and showers were upgraded, it would be perfect.

Our party of 6 stayed here from Friday 16th until Monday 19th August 2013.
Our initial views were that the campsite appeared clean and nicely presented. We were told when booking that the tent field had sea views and so we were looking forward to staying here.
Unfortunately the view of the beach from the tent field was very obstructed by trees and the ground was so full of stone/ slate that we struggled greatly in pitching our tents. It was probably the hardest place we have ever encountered when trying to set up. Most of the tent pegs were bending and we had to use hardened steel pegs to be able to make holes in the ground, so if you are thinking of trying here then make sure you have toughened pegs.
We were allowed to have Bbq's and a fire pit which was good and they allow dogs.
The washing up facilities were adequate and the showers although in need of modernisation were warm and there wasn't much queuing.
We didn't visit the club house but were given an itinerary on our arrival and it appeared that there was a lot going on. We were also given discount vouchers for local businesses such as pubs and restaurants.
There was a child's playground and staff doing activities with kids so kids would probably like styling here.
Overall we would stay here again.

We have just returned from this campsite, and went with an open mind after reading previous reviews. We wanted a cheap way of exploring North Wales, and felt it did just that.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by a friendly member of staff informing us about the site and clubhouse. Whilst plenty of things were taking place during our stay, we did not go to the clubhouse. The park was great for the kids, our children enjoyed playing there & exploring the woods. Unfortunately, when pitching our tent we noticed rubbish & disposable BBQ's left by previous campers. The ground is quite hard in some places, so it took us some time to get the tent pegs in. I felt that the toilet/shower block did let things down during our stay. The walls appeared to have mould on, the shower floor was dirty from outdoor footwear with soggy toilet paper on the floor & hairs in the sink. These things may not bother some people, but I am particular about them! During our 2 night stay we found no mop & bucket as per the sign in the toilet/shower block. We did see a lady come and clean up one morning, but feel a mop & bucket needed to be provided at all times & perhaps the addition of some cleaning products near the sinks for people to wipe sinks down after use. The outdoor sinks for washing up were adequate, and nicely covered should it rain. The children enjoyed the ice-cream van that visited the site and supermarkets are just a short drive away for essentials. I could hear the neighbouring A55 during the night, but I am a light sleeper - my Husband found it did not trouble his sleep. We had a great time exploring Conwy & LLandudno.
Unfortunately unless the toilet/shower block improves, then we shall not be re-visiting this campsite.

Have just returned from a 4 night break at this site and would never return.
The toilet/shower block was dated and cleaned once a day, the rest of the time it was filthy. Door locks had knobs missing and screws in place instead. Posters still on back of doors advertising may bank holiday events!
If camping then take super heavy duty pegs as beneath the grass is solid rock! Apparently if you put your pegs in at a 20 degree angle then no hammer needed!
Bins changed once during our 4 day stay!
The noise from the A55 was constant as main road along coast!.
On a plus note the scenery was nice.

Great site. Pity never done food on site. Friendly staff. Park good for kids. Views were. Great will be going again. Well worth a visit. Entrance bit tight, but got our 27ft twin axle in. See you again soon. Toilets need updating. Good location, just off a55. Handy for llandudno, anglsey and conway casle. Beach only 5 min away for a day out. Shops are only a short distance away. Only down side were the hard standing pitches, they were slate, would be great concrete to keep them level

Nice quiet site we visited twice for a couple of days. The club was great for the little one especially with kids night on a Tuesday, she loved the park on the tent field too and the visit from the icecream man in the evening.
The price of the pitch was £18 all in, it didn't matter how many people/cars/awning/pets you brought along.
The downsides are that the tourer pitches aren't level and the showers, toilets and washing up facilities are tired and need cleaning more often and more thoroughly. Possibly leaving a light on outside the block during the night and having a sensor switch the lights on when you enter or having to turn them on & off yourselves may reduce some of the mess left on the walls/behind the doors by the resident bugs that keeps getting ignored by the cleaner!
Overall though I would go back and hopefully over the winter they would have sorted some of the problems mentioned by me & others (I know they have some work scheduled)

We stayed at this site for 4 nights over the bank hols, in our party there were 4 tents with 11 adults and 7 kids.
This is a good site just needs up dating in the toilet and shower block area and a shop would be a good idea for essentials milk bread etc.
There is a good pub on site with happy hours and quite good entertainment but again no food or snacks to be had in the pub, maybe a bbq on the menu on bank hols.
There is in the village a bakery, newsagents and Chinese which are all within a 10 minute walk up hill.
All in all this site was good value for money however the cleanliness of the toilet and shower block let it down hence the five out of 10 for site facilities. We will be returning there again in the near future.

Visited for 2 nights and have to say the staff are very friendly. The site is large with mainly static caravans and a field at the back for tourers and tents. We chose a spot at the bottom of the field where it was sheltered by the hill but found the ground to be very hard (and bent a lot of pegs). The children's adventure playground was great. We only went in the main bar once - there is a section that the children are allowed in and a separate adults only bar area. There is a family room and snooker room. We went over the Jubilee period and they had lots of entertainment laid on with a free BBQ and bouncy castle. The washing up area was covered and had running hot and cold water. This area was a bit untidy with overflowing bins (but I am sure that this was just due to the bank holiday) as when we arrived it was clear. The shower block was cleaned daily and considering it was wet outside was not too bad. There was a mop and broom left in there so you could tidy up if you made a mess. One of the toilets did not flush. There are two hot showers and although I did not use these my husband did and did not have any complaints. Overall for our first camping trip with the kids it went well. The area is beautiful and the Marina is a must to visit.
