We are new to motorhoming and this is the 2nd site we've stayed in. In November 2010 we needed to stay overnight near Okehampton and found The Fox & Hounds on this site. Phoned previously and was told not to worry about booking but just to turn up. We arrived at around 1pm to check in and pay but were told: a) not to pay until the evening and b) the serviced pitch could not be saved for us if we were to leave the site and wish to return later which is what we had intended to do. Slightly miffed, we decided to take a chance thinking we could at least pitch on the grass without hook up, if someone had taken it. We were advised to put a cone on the hardstanding but was again reminded if it were moved there was nothing that could be done! Fortunately, when we returned at around 6pm the serviced pitch was still available so we pitched up for the night. The hook up itself was just a plug poking out of the ground with a small wooden cover on it. Unfortunately the welcome was lacking clarification and we weren't really told where anything is on the site when we arrived. Had to ask in the end as couldn't find the toilets. And yes well. Just horrible!.We had to walk up a rickety looking, slippery wooden staircase which took us into the most basic toilet block I have seen for many years. It was not clean, the floor was rank, the toilets were splattered, the shower was muddy, the sinks were not that clean but adequate. The most annoying thing though was that there was no hot water and no driers, not even paper towels to dry hands with! Couldn't see where to empty the waste either.
On a good note and having said all that, we did have a meal in The Fox & Hounds which was basic pub grub but tasty and nicely cooked.

Very basic site, found one water tap which worked when it thought it would.
The toilet block is in fact the toilet and showers in the camping barn. 1 shower and 2 toilets in the ladies and gents both in need of a good clean. 2 small wash hand basins gents had no plugs ladies had one. The shower had seen better days no where to hang clothes or towel while in the shower. The outer door of the ladies didn't close fully, one toilet door wouldn't lock all in need of some tlc.
There was no where to do washing up.
We didn't use the pub so can't comment on that.

We've been using the Fox and Hounds site for around 10 years as tenters. This was our first trip as caravanners.
It is a very basic site with a few hook up points around the perimeter of the field which is at the rear of the pub.
The landlord has been here for over 30 years and has been very welcoming.
Lately the site, and it's welcome, have become a bit tired. The shower and toilet facilities are located in the bunk house which a a bit rough to say the least and needs renovating. (Take your own toilet paper to the loo, they are constantly running out.)
Located among some of Dartmoor's most stunning landscape, and on the ten tors route, it is an ideal stopover site for walkers and cyclists using the Granite way. Okehampton and Tavistock are both around 8 miles away, and both well worth a visit. As is a trip into Lydford to see the Castle and Church. A day out to Lydford gorge is a must!
SHOP: None, you need a car to get to the nearest town or garage.
SHOWERS/TOLIETS: Rough and ready, needs attention
WATER POINTS: A few dotted around the site but the taste is tainted. OK for washing up but would recommend bottled water for drinking.
ELSAN DISPOSAL: One point behind some residential statics.
PLAYGROUND: In the ground of the pub, safe and quite comprehensive
BAR RESTAURANT: The pub has a good selection of ales and wines and the food is of superb quality and reasonably priced. If your group is more than 4 in number would recommend booking a table at peak times. Cooked breakfasts are available.
LOCAL FACILITIES: 7 OR 8 MILES AWAY
LOCAL AREA: Lydford Gorge (NATIONAL TRUST), Tavistock. Okehampton, Granite way cycle track Quaint village of Bridestowe. Dartmoor Walks.
SUMMARY: Would we go back? Not very likely, which is a shame considering we have had 10 years of fun here. The welcome is not as warm as once was and the facilities are a little too basic. I recommend it for a stopover, but for a couple of pounds more, there are better sites within 10 miles.

This is a fairly basic site with pub attached, on main Tavistock road, but not noisy. Easy access to moor and bus stop nearby. Flat hardstand pitches and nearly flat grass.
Toilets are up some (extremely rickety) stairs in a building across the lane. We couldn't find the chemical disposal facilities but to be fair, didn't ask.
Relaxed and cheap site, good for a stopover and for walkers but maybe too basic for some. We only sampled beer, not pub food but it looked good, with a daily specials board.
