Fantastic couple of days camping in 28 degree heat. Perfect pitch with hook up, loads of space. Owner very polite. Toilet and shower facilities SPOTLESS. I used showers early morning so always hot water. Freezer in dishwashing facility was helpful for ice packs. Large open grass space for children to play safely in middle of field - set up a badminton net for some fun.
Great for Symonds Yat. Park at Ferry Inn pub £3 all day. Occasional traffic noise may distract if you are a tent pitched near road but that is my only comment!

Just stayed at this site for two days on the weekend.
The owners are lovely, the camping field is well kept and bounded by a stream. The toilets and washing facilities are spotlessly clean and there is even a freezer for ice packs.
This site really does have everything, yet is totally quiet and peaceful.
There is a lovely walk to a nearby pub that also serves food. Nearby are the town of Ross, Monmouth and not forgetting the lovely Symmonds Yat.
I would recommend this site to anyone and will definitely be returning.
10 out of 10 to the owners

Just returned from 3 night stay at Elmsdale. Nice site, but felt a little over priced at £8 per adult per night, £2. 50 awning per night and an extra £3 per night for EHU (which wasn't mentioned at time of booking) Please also be aware, that public 'footpath' which runs alongside site and leads to Cross Keys Pub and Goodrich Castle, is a little difficult underfoot in places and also very narrow in places along way. During our stay, we also witnessed 'road' bikes (motorbike scramblers) racing down there at speed, which is surely not only illegal but certainly very dangerous. I dread to think of consequences if someone was unfortunate enough to be walking this path at same time as these idiots are approaching. We counted 12 riders doing this at 10am on Saturday morning and doing the same thing on Sunday morning and late on Sunday afternoon. Obviously using as a 'short cut' - a very dangerous practice, which in our opinion will inevitably lead to someone being badly injured or worse. Very surprised, that this practice hasn't been stopped by police or perhaps by local Council installing some sort of 'staggered' gate system, to prevent this practice. When mentioned to owner, was told 'yes, happens occasionally' - three times during a three night stay is not occasional!

This is a lovely, clean campsite in a beautiful location. The showers & toilets were modern, clean and the water was lovely & hot. The location is perfect for walking and visiting around the Wye Valley. The nearest shop is a fair walk away along a fast road with no pavements so it is probably best to be well stocked before you arrive. This road carries a lot of heavy traffic so care is needed when leaving the site (especially if you are towing or driving a slowish vehicle). It is a short drive to either Ross on Wye or Monmouth.
The owners live very close to the actual site and were really friendly & helpful; giving plenty of advice about places to visit nearby and how to get there.
Get directions from the owner over the phone as using a satnav will not find the site!

This is a fantastic little site. The owner was very helpful and welcoming and went to a lot of trouble to find out times of the Severn Bore for us, despite the fact that her daughter was in hospital having a baby the day we arrived. The showers and toilets were spotless. Water was hot and plentiful - maybe a couple of extra hooks for clothes/towels would be useful inside shower cubicles - having said that we managed OK.
When we stayed, there were only 5 tourers and a tent on the site. Hook ups are along one side of a lovely meadow bordered by a pretty stream.
There is a bridle path right next to the site for walking dogs or a pleasant lane out of the hamlet.
It is in a very handy location which is only a short drive from Symonds Yat and Forest of Dean. We also enjoyed nearby Monmouth which is an attractive friendly town with lots of independent shops and good parking by the river.
The short distance from the A40 is convenient but a slight downside to the site is the proximity to the A4137 which does carry a lot of traffic, which can be heard from the site but didn't really bother us. It is also a bit tricky turning out on to this road with the caravan.
We would definitely stay at this site again if we visit the area which we plan to do in the Spring.

A lovely little no frills site in a beautiful area.
We only stayed one night on our way to south wales but a fabulous spot for exploring the Wye valley
Cheap at half the price! Lovely clean toilets and well organised. We loved it. Friendly and helpful owners.
Again DO NOT use you sat nav to get here!
You finish up on a farm about a mile up the road and getting out again with a tourer is a nightmare so use AA route planner or similar
Ross on Wye nearby and lots of opportunities to hire Canadian canoes to go on the river.
Quiet and restful with a lovely babbling brook and nearby walks
Would visit again.

Just back from a weekend at this campsite. It is one of the best that we have visited. The owners were very friendly and helpful, even giving us an ordinance map to find our way to Symonds yat. They even recommend places to eat. The toilets/showers are kept very clean. They keep the middle part of the field open for children playing, all tents/caravans are placed around the perimeter of the field. The only down side is that the A4137 is quite busy and sometimes noisy but once you get used to it you don't really notice it. Had 2 of the best nights sleep ever whilst camping.

Just spent a week at Elmsdale in our caravan and took our open canoe with us, and one of our dogs. I'm slightly loath to leave yet another glowing review in case this site gets too popular but as it has had plenty of other praise, I'm glad to join in as well.
We had a brilliant time. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and only too happy to assist with directions and advice. And the facilities are spotless. The showers were powerful and no shortage of hot water.
I'm not sure why somebody commented that the EHU pitches were cramped because we were on them and had plenty of space. Nor was there any real noticeable road noise, just the odd lorry or tractor that I noticed. The site itself is kept very neat and there is a massive area in the centre for children to play, and in our case the owners let our dog stay off lead (she's very well behaved) and she had a wail of a time entertaining and being entertained by all the children.
Throughout our stay, we canoed approx 40 miles of the River Wye and this is a great site to base yourself from to cover from above Hereford down to Monmouth and beyond.
The Cross Keys Pub is within 20 mins walk and deservedly has a great reputation for food. We ate there once (dog allowed in the conservatory and beer garden) and the portions are huge, but not at the expense of the quality which is also very good.
We will definitely return to this site again in the future.

What a fabulous site, would I use it again ? most definitely.
The owner and her husband, have got time for you, plus they will advise you on where to go and where to eat, but beware if the lady owner is on her lawn mower keep clear, (her words Not mine).
Clean site, clean showers, and even a clean bin area, what more do you want?
Go and try it and be amazed. ! I wish all sites would be run and looked after like this one, and I have been caravanning and camping for over 25 years.
Access into the site is a little tight for caravans but good drivers will find it easy.
Don't follow the sat nav though. All you need is the A40 and A4137.
Don't use your sat nav!

Just returned from a 3 night stay. A lovely site, with plenty of space for the kids to play (we went mid-week).
It fills up at weekends but the central area is always free, and with a maximum of 25 units in a largish field, 'full' is a relative term.
The warden, Jean, was very helpful. The toilets and showers were kept clean and I didn't have to queue.
We visited the nearby Goodrich Castle and Yat Rock and would recommend both. The kids didn't want to leave.
Some points to note, however:
The pitches on EHU were very close together. However, we went off-grid and had plenty of space (a good 10m from the nearest tent, half the field to ourselves one night)
It is by a road, which, although not hugely busy, at this time of year had tractors going past during the night due to harvesting.
It is apparently prone to flooding in the lower part of the field, which has a stream around it, although this also meant the ground wasn't too hard after the recent dry weather.
In summary I would definitely recommend, especially non-EHU, unless you are a very light sleeper.
