Having been frequent visitors to France and driven many times through Normandy without stopping, we decided to explore the region and soak uo the history together with wonderful oysters and cheeses! This site is very peaceful and only about a mile from the village of Hambye with its historic abbey set in a lovely valley. The site is well kept with excellent facilities. We were one of five caravans on the site and stayed for 10 nights. Granville is well worth a visit and is only about 45 mins drive. About 9 miles away is the pretty town of Villedieu des Poeles which has a huge market every Tues and it is also well worth visiting the historic bell foundry which is also interesting for children. If you take Max Hastings book 'Overlord' with you, the area will bring it all to life. We also used the Michellin guide for Normandy which provides sightseeing drive routes which were excellent. We will be going again and thank Mike and Diane for their splendid hospitality

Camping Aux Champs is a lovely quiet and peaceful site in the depths of the glorious Normandy countryside close to the pretty village of Hambye with its ruined abbey by the River Sienne which is made all the better by the kind and caring owners, Mike and Dianne who were there to greet us in the dark of the late evening when we were late as a result of a tyre blowout on the autoroute to Caen. Mike helped us to restore power to our damaged fridge and Dianne allowed us the use of facilities in the mobile caravan on site which enabled us to continue with our holiday. The site is in an excellent position which enabled us to visit the numerous interesting places around Normandy. It is extremely well kept and has all the facilities we needed. The toilets, shower and washing up area were all kept scrupulously clean with liquid soap and towels provided. We would strongly recommend this site to anyone who likes a small quiet site with friendly owners who will do anything for you. We couldn't have wished for anything better.

We stayed on this delightful site from 26. 6. 2011 for 3 weeks. We had the most amazing time here and couldn't ask for more. Everybody that stayed here was so so friendly. The grass pitches are kept nice and short and of a very good size. The toilets and shower were always immaculately clean as well as the washing up area. Clean hand towels in the toilets were changed daily with always plenty of hand-wash and loo rolls. Although there is only one shower this was never a problem. Although we have a shower in our van we always used the site shower as it was so good and we never had to queue as this is a small site.
Di and Mike are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. They could not do enough not only for us but for all the other campers that stayed whilst we were there.
We have stayed on many sites in the past few years in France and Spain but for us this was the best. If you are looking for a peaceful stay with lots of places to visit then we highly recommend this site.
The countryside around the site is lovely to walk around and the local village is only a mile away with everything that you need.
When we return to Normandy again we will definitely use this site again as we love it.
We are Caravan Club Members and regularly use Club Sites and CL's and we can not recommend this site highly enough and only wish that it was closer to home so that we could use it more regularly.

We stayed at this campsite for 3 weeks June/July this year with our 2 dogs. I can truthfully say we had a wonderful time.
If I'm to be honest it would have been nice to have 2 shower cubicles instead of just 1, it wasn't a problem for most of the time except when a small rally (4 vans) stayed for a week. The block was kept very clean and it also housed a sink for the washing up, along with info on local area and books to borrow.
Mike and Diane, the owners, couldn't do enough for the people on site, and were always ready to stand and pass the time of day.
The other downside was that the dogs didn't have an exercise area for them and the lane outside although generally quiet was a bit hairy at times, as the locals weren't used to seeing dogs being walked along there.
A must to visit is the Abbeye 1. 5kms away, very pretty and serene, as well as having plenty of walks through the woods. Another must is Granville, or more precisely the harbourside, where the cafes sell freshly caught and cooked moules, lovely.
The Saturday market at Avranche is also worth a visit, as is many of the smaller local towns markets.
This area is very pretty and clean and the beaches are virtually empty.
This campsite is within easy reach of major tourist attractions such as D Day beaches, Bayeux, Caen etc.
We will be definitely back!

We have been vanning in France for over 30 years and found this site last year - it is now on our very short list of sites we really like to stop at. In June 2010 we stopped 10 nights after initially booking 1! We returned here again this year and the standards were as excellent as before. Spotless loo, shower and washing up facilities. A spacious pitching area with welcoming and helpful owners Mike and Diane - whom we now call friends!.
The area is extremely picturesque with lovely small villages and the site is a good centre for reaching many of the tourist attractions of Normandy. We can thoroughly recommend it.

We stayed at Camping Aux Champs for 3 nights. The site is beautifully kept. The toilet and shower facilities are A1. Mike and Diana could not be more helpful and friendly. Sammy, the dog, is lovely and I could have kidnapped him easily.
We will most certainly go back to Camping Aux Champs. The village is delightful and there is a Supermarket within 15 mins of the camp site.
For a relaxing break this little Camp site is ideal. Other than the donkey braying early morning all you can hear is the birds. Equal to and better than most of the CLs you see in the U. K.

An adult only site kept to first class standards. Toilet/shower facilities free and second to none! If a relaxing time is what you want then this is the site for you! Near to the village of Hambye, which has a couple of boulongeries and a small supermarket, as well as a tabac and a small cafe there are markets held in the surrounding villages on several days of the week. Mike and Diane are superb owners and will help you in anyway they can. Within easy reach of the D-Day beaches or Le Mont St Michel this is an ideal base for sightseeing. We booked for a week and stayed for 10 days. Ideal for a stop over or longer.

We chose this campsite as a convenient over night stop between Bordeaux and Calais. Although only there a short time, we were very happy with our choice. The field was level and the grass well kept. There was one other caravan on the site at the time, and there was plenty of room to space out. Mike and Diane gave us a warm welcome, and offered to lend a hand when a tent pole snapped! The washing facilities were impecably kept, a toilet for ladies and gents, and one shower. All spotlessly clean. Always a pleasure to get toilet roll after staying on French sites when you need to remember to take it with you!
We didn't explore the local area, but the countryside on our journey was beautiful. We went to see the Bayeux Tapestry the following day, which was only an hour's ride away. Bayeux highly recommended, beautiful town.
Mike and Diane will give you a warm welcome, and a great choice for a small friendly Normandy campsite.

We visited this little gem of a site the last 2 weeks of August. It is a lovely quiet place to relax and enjoy the peace but also well situated to access all the interesting places to visit in Normandy. The facilities are kept to a high standard. We found the owners Diane & Mike to be very welcoming, helpful, friendly and informative. Although we arrived quite late at night they were still there to welcome us and help us settle onto the site. The nearby village of Hambye is lovely especially Glady's passiere, we have never ate so much bread. There is also a good supermarket and a couple of bars. We will definitely stay on Le Champs when when we next visit Normandy. We do miss our morning (and sometimes evening) alarm clock of the neighbouring resident donkey.
We highly recommend this site to fellow campers and caravanners
