This site is great!
It's just off the main route between Lydney and Chepstow, but you'd never know it whilst on site.
There's a lovely log cabin shower and toilet block that's styled like a stable, but be aware the facilities are unisex!
The site is on the side/crest of a hill, but if you're careful you can find a flattish pitch. The middle is kept clear to allow children to play/relax in sight of any units and you won't find any crowding here!
They've got some new camping pods on site which are very good quality and really nice inside, with a small electric kettle provided and futon style bedding, we went back the next weekend to try them out!
For me, one of the best things about this site are the owners. They have a young family and are very laid back and happy to help. Within no time at all you feel as though you belong there!
They seem to have a good balance between allowing you some freedom, and not causing a nuisance to other people.
Oh, don't forget your frisbee.
Looking forward to returning in 2012.

Have just spent two nights at this excellent site. Everyone is pitched around the perimeter of a lovely large site so that the middle is left free for kids to play. Even though it was a bank holiday weekend we had loads of room and the owners certainly don't let the facility get over booked.
This is site where kids can get back to being kids, playing games, riding bikes, making new friends and exploring the wider site (separate woodland and fishing lake) if they wish.
You can't fault the shower/toilet block and we certainly didn't object to paying 50p per shower. There's a handy book/magazine swap facility some useful leaflets on the local area.
There's no shop on site however the local petrol station shop has everything you need or you can go into Lyndey itself for supermarkets. The owners were very helpful when we asked for their advice on a couple of things.
Your stay can be as relaxed or adventurous as you wish. We took the kids kayaking on the River Wye at Symonds Yat and enjoyed the Sculpture Trail in the Forest of Dean. You can also venture into Wales at Monmouth (v.Nice town with Pizza Express, M&S Food, Waitrose and a good chippy) and enjoy the numerous castles the area has to offer.
If you're new to family camping or are fed up with overcrowded, rowdy sites then this place will suit you. If you want lots of facilities and want to party til midnight then this isn't the place for you! We though, will certainly return!

Lovely, small and quiet site, close enough to the main road that you didn't have to negotiate too many country lanes just to get to and from your tent but far enough away not to have traffic noise. The owners were very welcoming but didn't chat unless approached. Facilities are new, well thought out and clean - amongst the best I've used. Everyone is asked to pitch around the edge so that the middle is clear for frisbee, football etc. Most of the field is gently sloping but the site was not full and we found somewhere flat enough.
Very reasonable price as it's not in the very heart of the Forest of Dean, but it's really very near to everything so it didn't feel far out at all. Don't miss the nearby 'puzzlewood' ('awesome' said my 8 and 10 year olds, who didn't want to go for a boring walk) or the excellent outdoor swimming pool (unheated) run by volunteers just south of Lydney.

I booked this campsite the day before we were due to go after reading previous reviews. This was our first camping trip post children so we wanted somewhere within an hour from home for a 1 night trial. We were not disappointed. On arrival I was a bit apprehensive as the field looked rather sloping but once we had done a 'reckie' of the site, we were able to find a nice flat area to pitch the tent (on far side to the left by the BBQ pit). Pitches are not marked and as the site was quite quiet we had a large area to ourselves. The centre of the field is left for the children to play. The toilet and shower block were immaculate and inspected regularly. We had a lovely walk around the lake and along the stream and even witnessed a fish being caught which the children loved.
There was a large group of about 7 families on site and they were able to set up their own camp with tents around the outside and seating area in the middle, great for a large group. I'm not so sure my children would have enjoyed themselves so much if other children had not been on the site as there is no play area, so this is something we will have to bear in mind for future camping. But even at 5 and 2 we were able to let them have freedom on the site as they could be seen at all times.
A lovely site, that we would definitely use again for a weekend. Only negative was the grass was quite long!

We stayed here for the weekend with our two young children and thoroughly enjoyed this site. The owners are really friendly and helpful and let us choose from the available pitches. All of the touring pitches are spacious - easily enough room for our van, awning and car. In fact I would even say we had tons of space - so nice after visiting sites where the owners are much more focused on 'packing them in' than offering a relaxed and comfortable experience.
The site is laid out so that there is a large open area in the middle for the kids to play where you can see them - great! The surrounding area is very picturesque and it was nice to eat our meals and chill out whilst surrounded by such lovely countryside.
Showers and toilets were spotless and we did not need to queue at any point over the weekend.
My parents stayed at the Bed and Breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it there. It is very warm and welcoming and the cooked breakfast was freshly prepared to order.
All in all, this site is a peaceful, family friendly and has everything we needed. One more thing to note was that we had a meal in The Cross in nearby Alvington. We were pleasantly surprised at the standard of the food and service - they had a kid's menu which was organic with not a chip in sight!

Very nice site with brand new facilities. I'm not sure why caravan club list this site as one of their 47 family sites as it had nothing for children except a large open green field. Site was sloping and we were told to pitch at opposite side of field to hookups. This area was very damp and didn't get evening sun, soaking with dew in the morning. We asked if we could pitch along the hedge in a gap in hookups to be told the row would be filled in a few days with caravans so that wasn't possible but only one camper van turned up. Location is quite remote- nice and quiet, owners quite friendly but we won't be returning.

We found this site last year, excellent facilities, friendly helpful owners, set in the peace of the Forest of Dean. Several pubs within walking distance and with the bonus of having a trout lake on site, perfect! We even had our wedding reception at the site! Slightly sloping field so make sure you have levelling ramps. This is our favourite site, highly recommended.

This was our most recent of several enjoyable visits to Beanhill over the past 2 years appox. The site is approached via a narrow minor road.
The amentities are good and are continuously being improved upon too as time goes by. When we first visited, the only toilet / shower was off the field, a good 200 hundred yards walk away. The site now boasts a good purpose build toilet and shower block(2 toilets, two showers (50p), two (communal) wash basins and a toilet / shower room for people with mobility problems. On this last visit we were pleased to find that a pot-washing sink has also been provided, extending the scope of what were already great facilities for a site of this size.
The site lies adjacent to a small B and B (run by members of the same family)so is ideal for those who want to spend a few days with family or friends that do not enjoy camping / caravanning!
One unusual bonus at Beanhill are the views across to a neighbouring hillside, home to llamas, bison and camels !(part of a llama trekking business operating in the area).
It is evident from the number of units on site on our most recent visit that news of this excellent site is growing.
We will certainly be back!

We and our two dogs have just spent two nights at Beanhill Farm, a CL site, and I wish we could have stayed longer.
If you can't chill out here you won't do it anywhere.
The site is immaculate, spacious and set within the most glorious countryside in the Forest of Dean area. There are pletny of hook-ups andan abundance of drinking water taps.
The showers and toilets have to have a five star rating.
The centre of the 1.75acre site is kept clear of tents/campers etc so children have an area where they can let off steam.
The owners, their children and dogs are friendly and helpful.
The local area offers the Forest of Dean with walks, scenery and country pubs in small villages and towns. If you want a bigger centre Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth are short drive away.
Can't praise it enough and we're booking to go back in Spring 2010.
