Stopped at Pant Yr Onnen for one night as in a party who we're visiting to sail on the lake. Wasn't expecting much based on previous experiences of some campsites but was nicely surprised. The location is great and the scenery around is stunning. The site is not large so no worries about crowds, is well maintained and importantly clean - the grounds, shower block and toilet facilities. With an easy going atmosphere nothing was too much trouble for the site managers. A nice relaxing site but if you want watersports there is easy access to the lake with a friendly Snowdonia park warden visiting daily should you need a permit to sail or just some local sightseeing advice. Final stamp of approval was my teenage son asking if we could return. Although only a short break on this occasion I suspect I will be visiting again, but for longer next time.

What a fantastic site. We stayed for six nights and I have never been to a place which is so peaceful even though it was full for the bank-holiday weekend. Location was good and we enjoyed white water rafting at the nearby centre. Toilets and showers spotless no matter what time of day you used them. The owners were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.
This site is a real gem and we will return next year.

Fabulous bank holiday weekend spent in a Shepherds Hut. Left booking to last minute and couldn't find a EHU pitch for tent anywhere then suddenly found this real gem. Our hut slept 3 and was really cosy with heater and a great location right by the lake. Felt a bit like fish out of water(!) as most people are there for water sports. However the owners offered our 6 year old a wetsuit etc which just added to a fantastic stay. Owners were extremely hospitable. Shower block is fine. Despite getting busy the families and couples rule ensures its quiet. Great fresh home cooked food at Eagles Inn in next village. Highly recommended site.

Lovely campsite right on the edge Bala lake, campfires allowed in the woods next to the lake. Quiet when we went, owners really lovely and helpful. Walks available, can access different parts of the lake and has a small stream running near by which children would love. Great if wanting a relaxing holiday. Toilet and shower block only small but clean Visited Bala quickly which provides essentials such as pub, local shop selling essentials, not far from adventure centre (used by schools)

We visited for 10 nights in August. The site is beautifully situated on the shore of Lake Bala. It has a private beach access. You can bring your own kayaks etc. The site is small and wasn't overcrowded at any point. It is mostly families with children and water sports fans who stay there so no noise, drunks or any nuisance. The prices extremely competitive. In fact the best when I later compared to other sites. Kids absolutely loved it. They spent hours playing with other kids, cycling around the site, fishing, swimming in the lake and exploring! Also there is a company that runs activities from the site so you don't have to drive anywhere. I would book in advance though, prices again great - £35 per 1/2 day. They do sailing, kayaking, canoeing for older ones, mine exploration and rock climbing where with the last three they actually pick up from the site and drop kids off after it is finished. This was a major advantage for us as not only my daughter absolutely loved the activities but also they run on half day basis so you can plan something with younger ones if they are not attending.
The site itself from the practical point of view is great- you will find everything you need. Showers are clean, there is a family bathroom too. There is a washing machine you can use. I think it could do with a tumble dryer as well due to the Welsh weather but then probably only for families staying longer than a week? The owner is great, very helpful. Would check on us regularly and see if we needed anything. You can pitch anywhere really, even by the water as close as you want to.
The site is mainly grass with lots of trees kids can climb on and swings set up on the taller ones. You can have a fire on the beach at night, there is a plenty of wood provided for a small change (cant remember now if it was £2 or £3 per bag, plenty for a night anyways!) There is plenty to do around as well, we visited couple of waterfalls, the steam train you can catch from the site, Bala town had lots of useful shops (no kids clothing shops so do not count on George to be anywhere close in case of emergency!) we also visited Barmouth where you can have a look at the safe boats or have a walk up the mountain.
The beach there is beautiful. Also worth visiting is the forest centre coed y brennin where you have mountain bike trails and go ape for olders. All in all we were very much impressed with the site, we had a great experience, kids loved it and I could relax reading instead of following them around and trying not to lose them in the crowded pool, hotel or entertainment centre which doesn't really provide any valuables experiences to create memories. No tv, ds, iPads for ten days and kids are alive and can't wait to come back! Many thanks to the Owners for providing such a quality unforgettable holiday place. Definitely coming back this year.

We stayed at this site for one night at the beginning of a tour of Wales. The weather was exceptional for the last day of September and we had a great night under the stars at the edge of lake Bala. We even had a campfire on the shore.
The site had everything we needed and is in a great position.
Electric hook ups were available and there was also a separate field for camping. There are washing up facilities and a small but adequate toilet block with showers available.
We hope to return again next year with our tent.

We had a very pleasant two week stay in July/August. Pant yr Onnen is a picturesque site. The location is excellent being right on the shores of Lake Bala. Brilliant for our pastime canoeing/windsurfing. We spent pleasant evenings round a campfire looking out across the lake. Owners were very helpful and sociable. Nice clean toilet/washing/shower facilities. Cycled into Bala Town which has good eating places, nice individual shops plus all other facilities expected in a small town. We visited Barmouth, Port Meirion, Snowdon and many other places of interest. All in all a super holiday. So good that we are in the process of booking again for a two week stay this summer.

Our 2nd visit to this great site. The new owners are lovely and very helpful.
This time our daughter came with her three children and a big tent, to be joined for 1 night of our 3 night stay by my son and his small tent. Molly, the owner got us all pitched together.
Wonderful. We had a ride on the narrow gauge railway, and on the Sunday our kids nipped round to the local sailing club and hired a Wayfarer dinghy on the lake.
I was lucky enough to be given a sail on a classic clinker dinghy by a visiting boater. Icing on the cake!
Already making plans to return here next year.

This is a good campsite which is under new management. It has great access to the lake for swimming and other watersports. The site is clean and well-maintained. Although there is no children's playground there is plenty for them to do such as skimming stones and playing on the tyre rope swings. The new owners are planning to upgrade the toilet facilities.
I think the site would benefit from the addition of an outside shower and some recycling facilities. The owners are happy for campers to have fires on the lakeshore and bags of logs are available for purchase (about £3).
Bala itself is a pretty little town, with some nice boutique shops, camping stores a Co-op, post office and Spar and plenty of places to eat. The town is also central for visits to Snowdonia, the coast, Llangollen and the larger town of Wrecsam is about an hour away.

Just spent a weekend here with my 10 year old son. Fantastic site, right on the lake; great for boating and fishing. Although the site was supposed to be full, there was plenty of room and we more or less picked where we wanted to pitch.
Campfires on the lake shore are a real bonus (somewhere to warm up and a focal point for the evening)and you can find sheltered spots for them. No play area but my lad was never bored and made his own entertainment on the tyre swings.
Toilet block very clean but be aware there's only one shower in each of the ladies and gents toilets (not enough for this size of site).
Warden very friendly and welcoming and a fantastic site. Can't wait to return.
