We stayed here for a few nights in January 2013 (we booked 3 nights but only stayed 2 as the weather turned for the worst - (we decided to tow home before the snow got too bad & the mud too thick !)
The touring part of the site is situated in a field across the road from the pub & there's an area with permanently situated caravans behind the pub.
As the weather had been very wet the field was very muddy (although vans are situated on hard standings) none of the water pipes in the field worked ! you have to walk across the road and go behind the pub to obtain water and use the toilet / shower facilities - which were fairly modern but freezing cold and again the water supply was not good ! (trickle is the word)
The pub was very nice (real ales and the food looked good although we didn't eat there) and very popular with a lot of customers parking their cars on the vacant pitches next to our caravan (not good when they start up at 11pm rev engines and drink drive home - country pubs for you !)
The site is situated near the canal and has a lot of wildlife (every day a Kestrel came within 5 feet of our window)its in a very nice area about 5 miles from Market Drayton (which has a Morrisons & small Asda)
I think it would be great in the summer but its not a winter site (stick to caravan club sites me thinks ! )

Just arrived back from three nights at the wharf. We went on Saturday morning, the journey in was fine came off M6 at junction 15 and headed for Market Drayton, the problem is from there. If you are travelling along the A529 from Market Drayton, ignore the first turning for the Wharf along Haywood Lane and continue along the A529 to the next turning. If you go along Haywood lane there is a hairpin turning you have to make around a brick building, this was bad enough in daylight but in the dark!. I wouldn't be surprised if a few caravans have been damaged at this point. We have a single axle van it would be even tighter with a twin. Going the other way brings you in over the canal bridge 55.
When you arrive at the site there is a noticeboard with all the pitches listed and your name against which pitch you are on. We simple found our pitch, set up and then wondered across to the pub and paid.
We were on pitch 14, which is in the corner and is one of the furthest from the amenities. It is also under a large Oak tree and our caravan and awning were covered with leaves and twigs that have fallen from the tree. The pitches are hardstanding, rock pegs required, and are slightly out of level. There was a water point close by and there is a Grey waste and Elsan point in the touring field.
The showers are around the back of the pub, which is across a country lane. It is a fair trek to the showers from our pitch. The mens has 2 showers and 2 toilets and a sink but it is very small approx 13' x 10'. The ladies only have 1 shower but can use the disabled.
There are 50 touring pitches and probably a similar amount of seasonal pitches and moorings for barges. There doesn't seem enough showers and toilets for the number of pitches. The touring field could do with one near the Elsan point.
The pub is nice, reasonable priced £2. 85 a pint for real ale, the food was nice and again reasonable, steak and kidney pie and chips £8. 25, although Steaks did seem a little pricey at between £15 and £18.
The Wharf is set in a lovely position at the side of the Shropshire Union canal. It is nice to sit out in the sun have a drink and watch the barges going up and down. Not so good when it's raining as not much else to do.
There isn't a shop close by so make sure you have all the provisions.
Young kids were playing on the grass area and there is a children's play area, not much for teenagers.
The dog walk is along the canal, which is a nice walk and you can go for miles but there is no area where you can let your dog off and have a run or throw a ball for the dog. We have an English Springer who needs a lot of exercise and just walking her isn't enough as you get tired long before she does, she needs to run. We couldn't let her off on the canal bank, as if anyone knows springers, they love water and she would have been straight in.
We went to Telford on Sunday to their indoor shopping area as it rained all day. On Monday we went to Bliss Hill Victorian Village and Ironbridge, about 20 miles away from the Wharf but well worth the visit.
All in all, The Wharf is a nice place to relax in the sun. It is one of those site that some will love and keep going back and some, like us, who thought it was ok and we would return again sometime. Maybe.

We stayed for four nights over the bank holiday weekend. We had a speedy and friendly check-in which was great. We did have a trek to the toilets but we were expecting it seeing as though we were pretty much at the end of the field.
We didn't think the facilities were enough for the size of the site. There were two showers, two toilets and one sink in the gents and hubby even got a filthy look and catty comment off another camper for daring to have a shave in the one sink. One toilet, one shower and sink in the ladies and the same for the disabled shower. Trying to remember the keycode when you have a three year old desperate to use the toilet is not recommended but I do appreciate the security issues of having the keycodes.
The toilets were spotless but the biggest gripe was the time that the toilets were closed for cleaning which was 10-11am which seems so inconvenient with having three youngsters to wash and dress within a reasonable hour.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to visit the pub but it did look nice and cosy and there did seem to be a lot of custom in the evenings. We were looking forward to having a drink whilst the children played in the playground but the playground wasn't within eye shot of the beer garden so we were disappointed with that. There weren't any dish washing facilities but we can manage without that.
The campsite is lovely and in a lovely location but it really did seem to be more biased towards caravans and campervans and we didn't really feel welcome. Unfortunately, I doubt that we will return to this site which is a shame because it is in a really nice area.

Me and my family have been to this sites a couple times and love it.
The camping field is opposite the pub with some hard standing pitches around the outside and grass pitches in the middle. The toilets and showers are situated at the back of the pub, they are very clean
Market drayton is a couple of miles up the road with some lovely shops and supermarkets. Nice and quiet site away from the noise

Stayed at the Wharf Tavern site for two nights. Very pleasant site, friendly staff, very quiet. The perfect retreat if you want solitude and relaxation, as there is absolutely nothing to see or do.
Amenities are a little way from the camp site, they are situated for more convenient use by the seasonal users, behind the Inn. Only one toilet and shower for the females apparently, the gents have 2 of each, accessed by security code only.
The Inn is very cosy, the selection of beers is an ale lovers dream.
Meals are usual pub grub, menu limited, everything with fries, but very very expensive. £8. 99 I found over priced for Steak and Kidney pie and fries.
Website Tariff says £14 per night, but I was charged £15 pn.

Stayed here, Friday - Sunday the weekend before the August Bank Holiday. All of the Hardstanding Pitches were booked, but as we were very keen to try this Site, we opted for a Grass Pitch.
On arrival, we checked in at the Bar in the Pub, Staff were very friendly, and we were shown to our Pitch. After setting up, we returned to the Pub for a very nice pint (or 2) and some food. The food is good value and traditional Pub fayre. The choice of Real Ale is good and the Beer is well kept. They do good Sunday Roast, and as we'd arranged a late departure (up to 5. 00pm and for an extra £5. 00) we took advantage of this.
Access was OK, but we unfortunately took the wrong turning, and this lead us in, in the opposite way. Be sure to follow a Map, not your Sat Nav.
The facilities are located behind the Pub and were clean and tidy. Didn't use the Showers so can't comment, but they looked OK.
This is a good site for relaxing, and we spent a lot of time sat out enjoying the warm weather. The site was quiet, even though it was busy. There was a large group in a Caravan behind us, with friends in a Tent, who were a little noisy, but they were no trouble.
The Canal is just yards away, and great for walking.
Overall, I can fully recommend the site, and we will be going back. The site is obviously very popular, as I'd tried booking it earlier in the season.

Nice site opposite the pub but you do not get view of canal as static homes are sited in front of it. Good sized pitches with electric; the water was not too far away.
Facilities were basic but very clean; you do have to walk across the road as they are by the pub. Only 1 shower/loo for ladies (don’t think I would like this in the busy time of year) although you could also use disabled.
Superb choice of food at the pub; meal was excellent and good value for money.
Not much in the area but nice walk along canal.
Good price for site at £15

We stayed at this site for two nights, as the reviews looked good and we needed hardstanding at this time of year. The site was easy to find although we wouldn't recommend the route we took to the site. Our directions took us off the A529 along Sandy Lane but the lane is really too narrow for motorhomes with overhanging trees and pot holes. We paid £30 for two nights on the site directly opposite The Wharf Inn. The site was quiet although it was full of caravans and next to the canal. The only noise was from the gale blowing through the surrounding trees. The toilet and shower facilities were at the back of the pub so it was quite a walk in the wind and rain from the site over the road to the back of the pub. The facilities were however very clean, modern and accessed via a code. We didn't use the pub as they do not welcome dogs, but in the summer we could have sat outside next to the canal. We walked for 9 miles along the canal and through Cheswardine village back to the site. The Fox & Hounds pub in Cheswardine, set opposite the lovely village church, was very friendly and they welcomed our dog inside.

What a Great site :-)
We needed a winter seasonal and The Wharf were very accommodating and more than reasonably priced.
The site is very spacious and extremely well run :-)
All the facilities are top notch and the staff are very friendly.
Great scenery and great walks all around the site :-)
The wildlife is also amazing.
Lovely quiet site with no noise issues.
The food in the pub is excellent and many fine ales to try.
The approach and entrance is a bit of a challenge but with care easily done. I have only been towing for a year with a 30 ft unit and I managed ok.
Will use again and again :-)

Have wanted to stay at this site for some time and finally managed first weekend in September.
Great site with huge spaces between pitches.
Level and with hookup and water tap close by.
Waste disposal a long way from pitch. After I had walk back and forth with both grey and black waste
Noticed other campers disappearing behind a stockade on site. Should have read the notice.
Otherwise very nice site great pub, food etc
Toilet facilities were OK.
Would love to visit on a dry day.
Canal walk very pleasant
