We loved this site, stayed more than a week. Be aware that it is basic, no frills camping though. There was a composting toilet and showers located at the farm which we chose to drive to (I think it would be a long walk).
What made this site a winner for us was the space. You could camp in open fields or in the woods, with your own open fire (you can buy logs from them). There is so much space you can camp away from others if you like your own space.
We also liked the lack of very young children which I believe were not allowed.
There are wild mushrooms in the woods to eat (if you know what you are doing) and we were very excited to see a glow worm in the field. We never found the badgers but we did hear them.
This is a lovely natural place to camp.
The surrounding area has plenty of potential for activities; walking, cycling, kayaking, culture, beach to mention just a few.

Have just returned from this wonderful peaceful site. Spent four days in the owl yurt in a very quiet secluded pitch. Tim and Ann the owners were two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Toilet and shower facilities were clean and spotless. Home grown produce available to buy at very reasonable prices.
The yurt was fully stocked with all that was required for a very pleasant stay.
The site is ideally situated for visits to Hastings and beyond. Found a wonderful pub in the village of Pett (the two sawyers), (a 5 minute drive from the farm), would recommend a meal there any time.

My girlfriend and I really needed a couple of days away in the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. We were worried that we might end up staying at a busy camp site with lots of large groups and children as our break fell right at the start of the school holidays. No offence to anyone, but that's not my idea of a relaxing camping holiday!
So what can I say about fresh winds? Well, it's a little gem! OK, so it doesn't have all the mod cons of some other sites, but for us this was one of the major attractions. The place was so quiet - away from any main roads, and on both nights only one other family was there, so it really was very nice and private.
We pitched our tent in the corner of one of the fields, about 50m away from the fire wood pile and fresh water tap. A bit further away was the compost toilet which worked wonderfully well.
Apparently up at the farm house there are showers and a kitchen area, but we never actually ventured up there during our two night stay.
The site is in a good location, close to Rye and Winchelsea. We spent two days cycling around the area and had a wonderful time.
The owner Tim was also really helpful. We arrived unannounced at lunch time on a Sunday, Tim's phone number was on the sign so I rang him but he was just sitting down to dinner. No problem, he politely gave us instructions on how to find the pitching area, and then strolled over later in the evening with his dogs (which were adorable) to make sure we'd settled in OK and to answer our questions about things to see in the area.
All in all, fantastic camp site. If you want camping with all the bells and whistles, shower/toilet block really close by, play equipment for your kids etc, then I'd say this probably isn't for you. If on the other hand you'd like to 'get back to nature' and have a relaxing time in a quiet setting, this place is ideal.
Oh and it's also a bargain at 10 quid per night, and you are allowed to have a camp fire. Brilliant!

Well what can I say. Wow, a true camping experience.
I had a woodland pitch and it was just lovely!
I think there are 5 woodland pitches all within sight of each other and what struck me was that it would be great for some kids to camp independent of adult/carers whilst still in sight, reckon it would be great for scouts etc.
Tim the proprietor is a gentleman, I'm not going to go into the lengths he went to accommodate me, lets just say that he went out of his way for me.
I made my way there on public transport a 100 bus from Rye or Hastings and ask to be put off at the Robin Hood pub, then you have a lovely 15 min walk down a country lane, watch out for a gate on your left with a small sign designating the site.
A small refund is given to those that make their way on public transport.
I shall be back there next year!

I have just returned from Freshwinds, a lovely natural site. Definitely a place where you are at one with nature, I pitched in the woodland area and it was fantastic sat by my campfire with a glass of wine in the evening. Lots of rabbits and the odd badger to be seen.
Very unspoilt site as there are no cars in the pitching area, you park up and walk through the woods to either the woodland pitches or the field a bit further on.
There is one composting toilet in the pitching area and a water tap. The 2 showers are a bit further away at the farm, along with a wash up area. Very basic facilities, more suited to campers who don't wanted plush facilities.
The site cost £10 for one person/tent + car per night. Logs were £3 a tub for the fire.
I would recommend the site if you are happy with basic, if you want lots of on site facilities this is not the place for you.

We stayed in the Tipi on the farm and we were not disappointed. The tipi itself had everything you could want for a more than comfortable camping trip. The farm and views were great and the owners, well they are simply two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
The site is ideally located in between Rye and Hastings both being just a 10 minute drive in either direction (not that you would think it as the village is so unspoilt). We stayed for 3 nights and were never at a loss about what to do. Whether it was just enjoying being on the farm, in the lovely local pub or exploring this small part of the south coast.
The toilets and showers (the solar shower has now gone, which I was a little disappointed about) were more than adequate and considering these guys are only in their second year they have put real effort into making you feel comfortable.
We will be coming back, that's for sure!

We almost don't want to tell you about the Freshwinds Tipi as it was so good! Anne and Tim were the most wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome.
The Tipi is situated in a little enclosure of it's own, between fields of sheep and cows and was clean and cosy. The outdoor solar shower was a little exhilerating - suggest a little top up from the kettle! Toilet and sink a few minutes walk away, in the farm buildings, were clean and convenient.
Cooked over the campfire was a joy, all equiptment provided including a little gas stove if you prefer it. Log burner in the tipi was really snuggly at night (although opening and closing the tipi flap to let the smoke out is a skill yet to be mastered!)
Very spacious for us two, but plenty of space for four (owners suggest not suitable for small children as situated next to open pond). Would recommend to anyone who would like a little piece of the countryside for themselves! Was a real joy and we certainly hope to go back again.
