This is an ideal one night stopover for tourers heading south in winter. It is unique, in that you are on hardstanding in front of the beautiful old Chateau that Sue and Steve are renovating, and you can plug into their electricity supply.

There is an outside loo, and if you are staying longer they are willing to provide shower facilities from the lovely gites they rent.

There are horses, a dog and cats, and a lot of land to explore. Sue and Steve are a warm and welcoming couple, with interesting stories to tell. We hope to visit again in warmer weather as there is a lot to see in the area.

We stayed here for only one night on our way back home, lovely location near to the village. We will go back so we can walk into the village and have a good look around.

Site was good and great for our two dogs, walks from the site.

Steven and Sue the owners were very welcoming and nice, very knowledgeable about the area, markets, bargains etc too.

They are busily renovating the Chateau.

This site is ideal stopover from or too the ports. Also handy for visiting the WW2 historic sites and beaches.

Will be back.

Stayed two nights on way to Caen. A wonderful tranquil place with two wonderful people steve and sue who welcomed us with a pot of tea and made us feel at home. Beautiful views of fields with cows and ponies, and trees with a church spire rising through them. We want to return and spend, more time here to totaly relax and explore, cant wait to visit again, Richard and Heather.

Stayed overnight on our way home to Caen. Had a wonderful welcome from Steve and Sue and the kittens whilst they showed us around their lovely estate and renovation of the château. Then tea and lovely home made cake on the lawn. The highland ponies are amazing and so is the peace and tranquillity of this site. It is only small, just the type of site we like, but the hospitality is amazing. We would definitely return when next in the area and would thoroughly recommend this site to everyone – you really cant go wrong here

Stayed here for two nights and wished it could have been longer. Sue and Steve greeted us as we arrived and told us to park anywhere we liked in front of the main house. Once set up they invited us round for a cup of tea and welcomed us like family. There is electric, water and a disposal point, that's all we need as we have our own facilities in the van and are used to using them. However, as our shower was being used as wardrobe space Sue kindly said I could use the shower in the gite. The gite is excellent, everything you could need, and if we didn't have the caravan would love to stay in the gite.

The place is so quiet and peaceful, just a 2 minute drive from the town which is stunning and has everything you need. We ate at the Hotel and was one of the best meals we've had for aong time. The views all around the site are amazing, how lucky they are to live in such a beautiful place. The Highland ponies are an added bonus, with me being a horsy person I was in my element and spent ages chatting to Sue about breeding, showing etc. GinGin the tomcat adopted us which was lovely as we have one just like him at home.

It's only a 30 minute drive from Caen and similar to the various D D landing beaches, and military cemeteries. We visited Gold beach at Arromanches and the British cemetery at Bayeux.

Sue tried to persuade us to stay another night as they were planning a big BBQ but sadly we had to leave. But we will definitely be back. Soon I hope! And all this for €15 per night - what's not to like-:)

A jewel in the crown. The most amazing place owned by the most delightful and welcoming couple Steve and Sue. Much has been renovated here and much is still a work in progress. A fascinating history including Knights of the Templar, Monastery, Chateau. 50 acres of walled land. Rare highland ponies bred by Sue. We were en route from Dieppe to friends in Brittany, so stayed overnight. We will be staying for several nights en route home. Just a unique and wonderful experience. We parked our van immediately outside the Chateau where we hooked up. We looked over fields with white cows, a long impressive drive from the white entry gates with ancient horse chestnut trees either side.

I can't do justice here to such a beautiful and unusual place. Suggest you visit and see for yourself!

We were looking for a midway point on our journey to and from Calais and Brittany and came upon La Garenne on this site. As we were spending a week in a commercial site with pools, bars, shops etc we wanted a bit of a quiet relaxing venue. The reviews and right up certainly suggested this site would fit the bill - we weren't dissappointed and really wished we could have spent more than one night each way with Steve and Sue.

The site is a lose term as really you get to park around the mid renovation Manor House. This was a first for ourselves and was quite the most unique venue we have pitched up at. Steve and Sue are two of the most genuine people you could meet. They were extremely welcoming of us and our 2 children. They have a massive enthusiasm for their renovation and the history associated with the house and land.

Our kids loved the cats and kittens - they probably were relieved when we had left for a bit of peace! They also enjoyed visiting the horses which are in a stable behind the house.

It's hard to rate the facilities other than to say we had hook up - linked to a plug in the house, water and there is a flushing toilet. Sounds rudimentary but it was perfectly ok for our stay.

The village is nearby, however on our return trip 15th August we think it was a bank holiday as everywhere was closed when we arrived at 3pm.

The location is about as tranquil as it gets and at night the clear skies reveal a mass of stars.

As we said it provided a perfect relaxing stop over in both directions, just wish we had an extra night. Thanks Sue and Steve

We stayed at La Garenne for one night on our way to Calais from the Vendee. I had searched for sites local to Caen, as this was the halfway point, but had found other sites to be way too large and commercial, with terrible reviews. We stumbled upon La Garenna on the UK Campsites website, and what had been written was very favourable. We were certainly not disappointed. Upon our arrival Steve and Sue greeted us like family, and made us feel very welcome. We were told we could pitch our caravan up anywhere in front of the chateau, and Steve showed my husband where to plug in the electric, get the water etc. Whilst Sue told me where to buy the best local bubbly, and where to eat in the village.

The village was just over 5 minutes walk away and we, and our two children, ate a very lovely meal at the local hotel. There was also a brasserie across the road, which had very favourable reviews, but this was not open until 6. 30pm and the children were hungry after a whole day driving.

We strolled back to La Garenne, and Steve showed us around the work that they are undertaking in the chateau. This history surrounding the building itself is amazing and my husband enjoyed learning about the German troops that had occupied it during WWII. In the meantime Sue introduced myself and the girls to the beautiful Highland Ponies in the grounds and my daughters enjoyed giving them all a cuddle and good scratch. There were also several young kittens running around playing and we all enjoyed fussing them, and briefly meeting a tiny kitten that had only been born the day before. We all sat in the beautiful garden and chatted until the sun went down. It really was like spending an evening with old friends, rather than staying on a site.

Sue also showed us around the holiday gite, which she was cleaning ready for guests to arrive the next day. It, too, is beautiful and if we didn’t have a caravan we’d want to come back and stay in there ! I especially liked the super-king-sized bed, which looked rather more inviting than our caravan bed.

The next morning my husband wandered back to the village to get break and croissants from the local boulangerie, and we ate them in the sunshine, and drank coffe and tea with Sue and Steve again. We didn’t leave until long after midday and we all felt refreshed and relaxed.

We will definitely be back. Thank you again for a truly wonderful stay. Out of this world. We’ve told all our friends. Xxx

We used this site as a stopover whilst travelling home from southern Brittany.

The location is great, just 10 mins from the AutoRoute. The site was also quite easy to find.

Facilities were good, toilet and shower were clean. The scenery was lovely, it was a bit noisy on the night we stayed, the local farmer decided to use his Combine Harvester until 11:30pm, but after this it was quiet again.

The local town of Auney is very pleasant with shops, restaurants and a great Boulangerie.

Overall a very good site.

We have just arrived back from a great holiday with our friend in France where we stayed at Chateau La Garenne, the owns Steve & Sue were fantastic, could not help enough, advised us were to shop, and the best restaurants in Aunay Sur Odon. We were on holiday to visit the WW2 war greaves and beaches so they told us all the back roads and where to go, what great people they are.

The CL site is very basic just an elsan point, and water tap, they sited our caravans write in front of the Chateau with a beautiful view overlooking Aunay Sur Odon as they are renovating the Chateau and hope to have it finished by the autumn. The site is very convenient form the port of Ouistreham just 30 miles and ideal for site seeing around Normandy, If you like horses they bread lovely little white stallions which in an evening came and visited us( just being nosey ) as we relaxed with our glass of wine enjoying the evening sun.

What more can I say the site is basic but situated in a lovely part of France, Steve and Sue could not make you more welcome than they do, as our friends say first class people.

If you are looking for quiet relaxing holiday I would recommend Chateau La Garenne to any one, trouble is if too many people find this site we my not be able to get booked in the next time we go. Steve and Sue we are coming back so save us a place.
