BRILLIANT. I can fully support all previous comments.
We are travelling without children and are new to the camping world.
We arrived at La Garenne later than planned, I'd kept in touch with Sue re our delay, and was amazed at their helpfulness including being prepared to wait up for us until after midnight. In the event we arrived by 8pm, very tired but happy to have arrived.
We drove from Dieppe (allow 3 hours) easy drive good roads and signposting.
Sue provided very helpful local directions.
The tree lined drive leading to the main house is immediately relaxing and tranquil, the small number of pitches means it doesn't feel like a campsite and every pitch has a fantastic view over the fields and very quiet countryside.
It was an added bonus for me having Sues beautiful ponies around to get my equestrian fix.
Sue and Steve are 2 of the most hospitable generous friendly and helpful people you could wish to meet and go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome and settled,
Combining this with the exceptional surroundings and easy walk to the lovely village where you can find all the amenities you need, it really is an ideal location which I can't recommend highly enough, particularly for people looking for peace and tranquility in beautiful surroundings.
I will be revisiting in October and this will undoubtedly be my annual stop over en route to our friends in Brittany each year.
I cannot recommend this site highly enough, there are absolutely no down sides to this site in my opinion.

This was our first excursion in the Campervan across the water to France. We took our time driving from Calais, taking around 6 hrs in total to La Garenne. Sue had emailed instructions from Caen which were 'spot on'. Once we opened the big gates into the property we knew we had found the perfect spot. A stunning avenue of flowering chestnuts drew us down to a picturesque Chateau, nestled into unspoiled grounds, with views across the fields. We immediately 'hooked up' and marvelled at the quietness and bird song. Two Highland stallions came to inspect us and later in the evening Steve popped over for a chat and to introduce us to the local Calvados. WE were so private that we were able to leave the camper van door open all night long, enjoying the incredible night sky and quietness.
La Garenne sits just 5 mins walk from the Village of Aunay Sur Odon with bars, restaurants, markets and other local amenities. We were able to have daily explorations to the Beaches of Normandy in the camper van. Cycling on the local roads was safe with little traffic as was walking/running.
Sue and Steve are wonderful and hospitable and did everything, and more, to make our extended stay so enjoyable. We stopped off on our return and took the ferry from Ouistreham to Portsmouth which was an easy 40 minute drive.
It is definitely one to visit again and again and again.

A very enjoyable week at Chateau la Garenne, we stayed in one of the gite/Barn conversion cottages, which were fabulous - 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a kitchen with every utensil and gadget you would need and Sky TV.
A lovely view of the surrounding fields, looking out onto the Owners horses.
Sue and Steve really looked after us. Advising on local places to eat, shopping facilities etc.
The main purpose of the visit was for the World Equestrian Games. We did however visit the local town where there were plenty of places to eat, a selection of shops and easy access to a number of Supermarkets stocking everything we could need.
The location is easily accessible from either Le Havre or Caen ferry and the main motorway/ ring road is easily accessible.
We also visited a number of the WW2 Normandy beaches and towns whilst using this location as a base to come back to each evening. So you get all the benefit of a rural location with a short easy drive to access main motorway routes.

Spent a lovely evening at Chateau La Garenne in our touring caravan as part of our recent visit to France. We were looking for an overnight stop whilst travelling from Benodet to Calais and this location was half way and conveniently located just off the A84.
The English site owners were friendly and extremely helpful, being campers themselves and were able to offer us lots of good advice for touring in France. The location is wonderful with the village of Aunay Sur Odon having many local amenities. We pitched in the grounds of the chateau, a lovely old building with adjacent cottages and stables which were full of character. The chateau is just on the outskirts of the village at a slight elevation so the village could be seen in the distance.
The site services were simple, water and electric hook up were provided, there are no shower blocks, pool or bar
The views from our pitch were fantastic and we spent a lovely evening sat outside the van enjoying a BBQ and bottle of French wine whilst enjoying sunset in the peaceful surroundings and watching the horses and occasional deer in the neighbouring field.
Ideally we would have liked to stay longer to further explore the area, and possibly visit the nearby zoo with our two young children, but our travel plans prevented this, however we will definitely return next time round and would recommend to others!
If you are looking for a nice relaxing retreat then this is the place!

We have stayed here twice now and each time we have been made so welcome by Sue and Steve, the owners. The cottage, which they rent out is very well appointed and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We stayed in front of the Chateau with our classic caravan on the first occasion and, as we had no shower in it, they allowed us to use their own shower, which was very kind. The views from the site are lovely and it is very peaceful. There is only a short walk to Aunay Sur Odon which has everything you need in the way of facilities. Sue and Steve are very helpful and we shall be visiting them again. Very highly recommended.
