I think I must be turning into a 'glass half empty' kind of person. As I'm pondering what to say, it's negative things that come to mind. However, overall we had a fantastic time on this site, but there are some things we wished we'd known beforehand!

The toilet, shower and waste disposal facilities have been well and accurately documented in other reviews. I would also add that they're small as well. The cubicle walls are short in all directions - I'd suggest using the public ones on the beach, they were nicer.

Bin day is a Monday, so when we arrived on site - during a busy August - the bin area was overflowing, but it all got sorted on the Monday and then built up over the week!

The views from the site are amazing. This meant we could clearly see the remnants of Hurricane Bertha as she approached and then, as the site is quite exposed, battered us. If wind is forecast, batten down everything - twice!

The roads to the site are not for the faint hearted. The 11 miles from the A38 took over an hour on the Saturday morning we arrived. Single track roads, lorries, caravans, motorhomes, beach traffic etc. Make sure you follow the directions on their website - on one day we went the direct route and drove alongside a farm track that was wider and looked better used than the road.

If you're going away from the campsite, to the East, and your Sat Nav puts Bigbury church on your left. That road sign that says Tidal Road, is just what it says - so look at the tide before you leave and make your choice!

Last concern before I turn to the positives. There are no supermarkets anywhere near here. My research identified loads about 10miles away, but with the Tidal road not always passable, and narrow windy roads everywhere - 10 miles away equals about 40 minutes. Similarly, if you need a wet weather activity, there's nothing nearby. No, seriously, nothing.

The positives are the view, or more accurately the VVIIIIIIEEEEEEEWWWW as it stretches for miles and miles. You really can see the weather approach, which is great from the beach or campsite.

The beach is awesome. Fantastic sand, just perfect for sandcastles. Shallow water for ages, so children able to play safely. Lifeguards on duty. Good toilets, cafe and shop nearby. Official and much cheaper farmer's field parking. Probably worth knowing about the tides as not much space to sit at high tide!

No phone signal on campsite or beach - so truly away from it all.

Campsite offers large, park anywhere, no EHU, 'don't let anyone else hear your music' fields as well as a more regulated EHU field - though we did have someone try to put their tent so their guys crossed ours - fortunately arrived back as they were pitching so able to ask them to move.

Lastly, the church is lovely. Not the most family friendly service, but they made efforts which was appreciated as we had the only children - but I think everyone in the church spoke to us and one of them offered to let us stay, in our caravan, on her drive for a night or two if the wind got really bad - whilst the shelter of the house would have helped, the packing up again wasn't feasible.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the Bank Holiday. The views from the site are spectacular - the most panoramic we have ever seen, and we do a lot of coastal camping. It's an easy 10 minute walk down to beautiful, large, clean, unspoilt Bigbury Beach and all it has to offer. Loads of beautiful public footpaths lead from the campsite. The site owner, the farmer, is lovely and a real character and the fees are cheap - £30 for a family of 5 with EHU for 2 nights.

The only downside of this campsite is the very basic toilet / shower facilities. Although clean enough, they are housed in rusty shipping containers and in the back of an old lorry and are an eyesore, They spoil the view if you are in the EHU field. We are hardened campers and we found them shocking.

We will go back but I think we'd want to be away from the toilets and not have to use them ie in a caravan or camper. The majority of campers here seemed to be doing just that.

 An inexpensive site.

I have to agree with all the other reviews. Simply put the views are amazing, the nearby beach is lovely and a sunsets are spectacular. The owners were friendly and allowed us to choose a pitch. Massive open field without hook up, plenty of space to run around. Completely unspoiled farmland. Simply stunning and quite remote.

However, the toilets, yes, they are very very basic, an old container, an ex garage without the door, cubicles which appear to be second hand a couple of decades ago. The block lets the site down dramatically. The shower cubicle, for there is only one, is a large shower tray divided into ladies and gents with a partition. I didn't really notice how clean they were because I can't equate cleanliness with the ramshackle and dilapidated feel of the block. I was concerned too with waste disposal; a 'lined' hole in the ground with a flag stone over it (apparently legal if on a working farm).

Dogs were also allowed to wander the site, pretty much they stayed close to the pitch, but whilst ever they have the freedom there is evidence of some owners not cleaning up after them.

We went here as part of a family party - dads n kids weekend

The facilities are basic but clean enough and we thought it was amazing value - me and my two children was £16 for 2 nights!

Views are amazing, we had great weather apart from a light shower early one evening

It is quite exposed up on a hill over the coast, so can imagine it would be pretty grim in rough weather

Massive amount of space in the fields, just pitch wherever you like

The farm sold firewood for £2 for an 'armful' so that was great for the kids - BBQ and toasted marshmallows for dessert

The farmer does the rounds and is very friendly, he's not keen on loud music or excessive intake of alcohol but we got along fine with him despite having the car radio on (very low) and a huge guilty pile of beers cans around our feet

They have recycling bins there so you can do your bit

We'd like to come back and have another stay - there is nothing there which is just how we like it - the kids played about 12 hours of cricket and ran themselves ragged up and down the hillside chasing the ball - perfect

If you are sniffy about the showers / wc's then you shouldn't go as they are a bit dated and ramshackle but this is the only downside if you are that way inclined - personally I found it perfectly clean enough and lets face it you don't go on holiday to camp in the toilets!

This is a pretty basic site, the facilities are in old portakabins and have seen better days. They seemed clean though. The location is good with lovely views and a ten minute walk down to the village and big, sandy beaches. As their website says, this is a working farm. Unfortunately this meant tractors coming and going near the tents until midnight. The owners seemed very friendly and helpful. UKCampsite.co.uk says fires are OK but there is a sign asking you not to have campfires.

This campsite gives campers stunning views over the sea and the surrounding coastline. The picture on their website does not even come close to showing how lovely the view is. We stayed a week and wished we could have stayed longer.

It is ideal for families wishing to have a beach holiday as there are huge sandy beaches in the bay below the campsite. You can walk from the campsite or drive but then you have to pay for beach parking. You can surf, kayak sail etc. From this beach. There were life guards located along the beach.

It is a working farm and it was fun to watch the dogs moving the sheep around. The farmer and his wife were very friendly and happy to let us charge our laptop (for a small charge) and put freezer blocks in a freezer whenever we needed for no extra charge.

There is a big choice of places to pitch as there are a number of fields to choose from. Some have electric hook up. We liked the fact there was so much space between tents.

The facilities are basic but all that we needed. The toilets were always very clean with enough toilet paper!

You have to pay for showers but the time you get was enough for two of us to shower.

I think this campsite is a perfect base for a holiday; lots to do in the surrounding areas or just stay on the beach.

This is one of my favourite sites. The facilities are basic to say the least but they are functional. The location really wins for this site. It's on a hill top with cracking views of Burgh Island and out to sea. There's footpaths down to the Avon estuary and local beaches. It's a bit of slog back up the hill and it is a bit exposed so can get chilly in the evening. Surfing and miles of sandy beaches all around. We keep going back.
