Visited this site in early July and was very impressed with everything. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had electric hookup and found a lovely level pitch to put up the tent. All the toilet/shower blocks were very clean and well presented, with very little queues for the showers! the whole site had a very relaxed atmosphere with a lovely mix of tents, caravans and motor-homes. The laundry room (which we did not need but did have a peek at!) was very well equipped and even had small lockers with plug sockets in to safely recharge ! The wifi was a bit high and miss at times but that really is a very minor point. Yes, there are the electricity pylons but you can always turn your chair round so that you don't see them! The site was very easy to find and is superbly placed to visit Weymouth and surrounding areas. Looking forward to returning and would highly recommend this site to anyone (however I am reluctant to do so as I may struggle to get a pitch in the future when this gem gets well known!)

Very nice site, the toilets and showers was immaculate, lovely large pitches. Can be a bit windy and open, therefore if its really sunny there is no where to shade but they have planted a load of trees so I think in a couple of years it will be perfect.

Morrisons is just up the road and the best thing was the park and ride which is about a mile away, it saved us a fortune on parking and drops off just outside marks and spencers so convenient for both the beach and shops, and at only £2. 50 per car all day it was saving us £5. 00 a day.

The owner was very welcoming and told us we could choose our own pitch. The shop was well stocked with everything including camping gear and lovely little gift ideas for those back home. The little play area was great for the kids also the goal post and table tennis for the bigger kids is great. The washing up area even had washing up liquid provided which was a nice touch, mind you it disappeared half way through the week, I think someone must have pinched it, such a shame but that life these days!

All in all a perfect site and will definitely be going back.

 Family Camping at its best!

A lovely, clean site - we really appreciated being able to turn up and find a pitch that suited us. We had paid a few extra pounds for an electric hook-up, which was worth it for being able to top up the inflatable mattresses and recharge the camera batteries etc. The shop is well-stocked, the owners very friendly and helpful.

The only minor negative - we went at the height of hayfever season & it showed, so if you're a sufferer, stock up on antihistamines etc! It would probably have been the same at any other site though - that's camping for you! The map in the brochure is out of date - there is now a lovely children's playground that can be seen from almost anywhere on the site - and there is a second block of toilets/ showers, which are really lovely - shower cubicles spacious enough to hang your clothes inside, and hot (not lukewarm) water!

We made full use of the laundry facilities (we have 3 young boys!) £3 for a wash cycle, and there is a dryer available too, if the weather is not as lovely as it was for us. (there are washing lines available to hang clothes from, even pegs are provided!)

The toilets were always clean (hand soap provided here too!) and the covered washing-up area was also kept clean. Plenty of water and rubbish points around the site.

All in all, a really lovely site - we would definitely go back! I gave a '9' for location and child-friendliness purely because despite the beautiful scenery (and friendly rabbits), the site is close to an electricity pylon, so kite-flying is rightly prohibited.

PS For families, I recommend looking out for the 'Resort' free tourist magazine, available at many places nearby - you can get some great discount vouchers in it (including 50% off the Sealife centre and free kids entry to Sandworld) We also recommend Abbotsbury children's farm - my boys loved being able to feed the baby goats and take them for a walk.

This site is well off the beaten track and very peaceful despite being so close to Weymouth. It is a well kept site, virtually all grass pitches on a moderately sloping site and well marked out. Most of the pitches have electric hook up and all are near water points. There are two very clean toilet/shower blocks and a third block is available in the high season. The washbasins are all communal which some people may dislike. Pushbutton showers – no use for washing long hair as you end up leaning on the button. Hair dryers are provided. The washing up area is as open to the elements as many others. In one corner is a small play area for children. There are picnic benches available and every pitch is supplied with a rubber mat – I assume for use in the wet weather. The laundry room also houses a microwave, freezer and a book exchange (I really like campsites which have the latter). The site shop is well stocked and reasonably priced but there is a huge Morrisons only a couple of miles away. It was only half full on our visit so plenty of room and no queues. It is within easy reach of many of Dorset's famous attractions and makes for a peaceful base to explore the area. I would recommend this site to friends and would probably return if we are in the area.

Spent 8 nights at this site including 2 Friday nights. Found the site to be extremely busy at the weekends but quieter during the week. Unusually we were given the opportunity to pick our own pitch. We had booked a hard standing pitch but on arrival none were available, which was a bit annoying.

Facilities

A great deal of thought and care has gone into the provision of quality facilities and the whole site is maintained to a 5* standard. The on site farm shop is very useful. Locally there is a petrol station within 2 miles of the site and supermarket within 3 miles.

Some points worth mentioning.

Beware the approach from Broadwey. The road is both narrow, with tight bends and road humps that are particularly high.

The site itself is on the side of a valley and therefore there are some sloping pitches. It also seems to be susceptible to the prevailing winds, so make sure you peg down well.

We found that when the site was busy there was not a great deal of room between us and the unit in the next row. I measured 2 metres.

The toilets are cleaned twice daily, 6 am to 6.30 am and 4pm to 4.30 pm however, this morning the cleaners arrived at 4.30 am. So if you pitch near either toilet block be aware you are likely to be woken by the arrival of their vehicle and the cleaning operation itself. Having said that the toilets blocks are immaculate.

Talking of vehicles, there appears to be no night time curfew on the movement of vehicles on the site. Late arrivals were let on the site as late as 11 pm and took at least 45 minutes to set up.

Unfortunately, our enjoyment of the all this beautiful site has to offer was marred by us witnessing an argument and a brawl between 2 male members of the large family group on the pitch opposite us. The same family also had several children with them who insisted on playing ball games around adjacent pitches. Inevitability the ball hit vehicles, tents and awnings several times.

Visited the site this May bank holiday for 3 nights and was all in all the best site we have been to for a good few years.

Good points - Very child friendly (could see the kids play area from our pitch and site felt so safe we had no problem with letting our 5 and 3 year olds wander off on their own).

Customer service (the owners and staff could not have been more friendly and were always asking if everything was okay or if anything needed to change, also advised and allowed you to choose your pitch on arrival and drive round a few)

Pub Tent (had a quiet pint on the friday night in the pub marquee and enjoyed a local ale or two),

Pizza oven (Cooked to order, in pizza oven in a horsebox. Not sure if this was just for the bank holiday weekend of a permanent feature)

Lastly facilities! All the facilities were exceptional and very clean and tidy, obviously new as a new site, but best quality and no cheap stuff put in. Also had drying racks, washing up liquid and washing up bowls free for use in washing up area, and was little touches that made the difference.

Bad points - Am being really picky here. Electricity Pylon (close to site, which wasn't a problem, but when the sound of wind dropped did buzz fairly loudly which was annoying at night. Second criticism at night was lighting. Not sure if they had to follow some health and safety measures but every electric hook-up post and every bin\water point had fairly bright light on them at night. Just meant that was not totally dark. But sure they could save money by turning a few off.

Overall - Brilliant site and would definitely visit again if in the area.

What a lovely site. The reception is manned by the owners son and provides a lovely welcome so much nicer than the impersonal 'pay your fees and go away' you get at many sites. During our 5 day stay we had many chats and enquiries were constantly made as to everything being OK. As on our arrival the site was very quiet we were given the option to choose our own pitch, all of which were very well kept and spacious. The site did get busier as it was bank holiday weekend while we were there but activity was monitored and any issues were immediately addressed, a member of the family even stayed on site overnight tu deal with anything that may arise, a demonstration of the commitment to the comfort of guests.

All facilities are kept in top notch condition, there is a lovely brand new block newly installed plus a slightly older one but both immaculate.

The love and care that is put into this site shows in every aspect and we were so sorry to leave, will definitely return when visiting Weymouth again.

We have just returned from a fantastic bank holiday weekend break at Higher Moor Farm. We cannot praise the site enough, we have stayed at many sites around the UK and Higher Moor Farm has just been added to our favourites list. A lot of time, effort and money has recently been put into this site and it has paid off.

The new toilet block is amazing, and is kept spotlessly clean. Even the older ablutions block beats others I have seen. The washing up facilities are great, I have never known a site provide washing up liquid (it was Fairy too!). There was a children's play area, ball area with goal, basketball net and table tennis. Our dog enjoyed using the small but adequate dog walking area at which poop bags are provided. The laundry room had great facilities, washing machines, dryers, microwaves, a freezer and electrical charging points. The washing lines were also very useful. There was free wifi that was reliable and fast enough to use Skype. The shop on site is brilliant. It stocked everything we needed including lots of local produce at reasonable prices. Higher Moor Farm and all of its facilities could not have been be presented any better.

On arrival we were able to choose our pitch. There was plenty to choose from and a variety of hard standing/grass, electric/no electric pitches. Being in a camper van we chose a hard standing pitch with electric. We had our own water tap right next to the pitch too. We were even supplied with our own rubber door mat! The staff at Higher Moor farm a very friendly and helpful, it was lovely to pop into the shop for a pack of sausages and leave 20 minutes later after a good natter! The site is situated in a picturesque Dorset village just outside of Weymouth. There is an electricity pillion in the top corner of the site but it didn't bother us at all. It was a lovely quiet and relaxing country setting.

I really cannot fault Higher Moor farm and it's staff. I would go back there every weekend if I could!

We have just returned from this site.

There are plenty of flat pitches, on approach is looked very crowded

We had a warm welcome & on arrival we were driven round in a golf buggy so we could choose our pitch, as we have a 5 yr old we decide to be within sight of the play area.

We had 2 day rain & the pitch was well drained

The newest shower block was clean & modern - it would be nice to have a family room too.

The farm shop is a little gem, lots of local produce news paper & ice cream.

Weymouth prom is lovely with a lovely beach with swing boats & trampolines

On a rainy day we visited Dorchester & went to the Dinosaur museum & the Tutankarmun Exhibition- both good value & ideal family trips.

Unfortunately after 2 sleepless night caused by noisy neighbours we came home early

Initially we were pleased by the sites response to a group of teenagers who were asked to leave, worse to come was the trouble from a noisy foul mouthed teenage girl who continued to scream & swear in front of our children as we were packing up.

After 3 visits to the reception we were told that they were to busy to deal with it until later- this poor response has lead to our decision not to return

We have just returned from our chilliest camping trip ever but the camp site and the staff more than made up for the cold weather and biting Easterly wind. We managed to survive our planned 4 day stay despite the weathers efforts to send us packing!

As it wasn't very busy when we arrived we were spoilt for choice when deciding where to pitch our tent. There are plenty of EHU pitches but also plenty without for those who don't want this facility. We settled for the top of the field (which is gently sloping but the pitches were fairly flat) where we enjoyed the views of the rolling hills of Dorset. We noticed the pylons (since you can't miss them!) but they didn't bother us at all. When the wind stopped blowing we could hear trains occasionally and the road in the distance. We didn't find any of these things intrusive.

Unfortunately we had a problem pitching as one of our metal (rib) poles broke after a strong gust of wind blew at an inconvenient moment. The guys who were doing some work by the play area were very helpful and did a temporary fix for us however when we tried to get our tent up for the second time the pole broke again. We thought that was it - end of our holiday before it begun. However they saw us packing up and dashed up to see if there was anything that they could do. Those guys were amazing - our broken pole disappeared off to the workshop whilst they phoned a couple of nearby camping shops to see if they stocked what we needed (sadly they didn't) however the guys found a solution to the problem and then 4 men helped us get our tent up. We have never had customer service like that at any other campsite we have been to in our 7 years of tenting. Needless to say we were very happy and impressed with the cheerfulness and the banter as these lovely people put so much effort into saving our holiday.

The toilets and shower blocks were kept spotlessly clean. When we were there there were 3 toilets and 2 showers each for the boys and girls. There were 3 hooks in the shower cubicles (perfect for me as I have a bag with clean clothes, one for the dirties and another for the towels so there was a hook for each). There were also doors to the showers which meant everything didn't get soaking wet which was great. There are hooks in the communal area of the showers that are useful for coats and a bench that meant I could sit to dry my feet before putting on my socks and shoes. These facilities are better than many campsites we have stayed at. We were told that another block of toilets and showers with more washing up facilities are due to arrive next week. The foundations for them are already in place. When the site is full these will be needed!

There is a lovely little shop where you check in which was manned all day every day we were there. Our son enjoyed popping down there and we visited every morning and had a coffee (there's a coffee machine @ 50p a cup) and a chat. There are the essentials you'd need from risotto meals to posh pot noodles (I thought one was called beef poo!), ready meals, cakes, bread rolls, sweets, ice cream and loads more besides.

There is a fenced off play area with a wooden climbing frame and some swings which is great for younger children. There's a ball play area with a basketball hoop and table tennis. There's a dog walking area though I didn't check this out since we don't have one. There are picnic tables dotted around the site and a pair of wooden chairs in the corner near our pitch. If it hadn't been so unseasonably cold we would have enjoyed using them. There are plenty of water taps and bins with recycling stations around the site. There is a laundry facility however as our stay was a short one we had no need to use it and I didn't get round to checking it out.

There was even washing up liquid provided in the wash up area - again this is a first and demonstrates the attention to detail.

The location is very good as Weymouth and Portland are a short drive away which also gets you to Chesil Beach. Dorchester is not much further away in the opposite direction so there is easy access to shops, museums, beaches, cinemas etc without the need to drive for miles and miles. Poole is approx 30/45 minutes away on the A35 and Swanage, Corfe Castle and Wareham in the Purbecks are not too far away either.

We felt valued as guests and were made very welcome. The staff were friendly and always cheerful and as you can see from the above very helpful - nothing was too much trouble. We came away (on the sunniest and warmest day with hardly any wind typically - having experienced snow flurries 2 days previously!) feeling as though we had made new friends. This site is very family friendly and offers excellent value for money. With customer care, which is very important to the owners, like that this site deserves to do well. Our heartfelt thanks go to the team that make Higher Moor Farm Campsite a special place. We will definitely go back and can't wait for our next visit.
