This is the second time we have stayed at this site but the first since it has been run by the camping and caravanning club so I thought I'd write another review to reflect this.
We loved this site - the wardens were very welcoming and friendly and really couldn't have been any more helpful. The site was peaceful (even though all but full).
The showers were second to done - each 'room' having a shower, toilet and sink (they were bigger than my bathroom at home!) The showers also had a adjustable temperature and the generally heating of the block was great.
The wardens had put together some walks from the site which was great - we did walk one and it took us right up on the moors which was lovely.
Great pub in Peter Tavy not too far away and an ice cream van just at the top of the hill (this was a bonus as the walk took us right to it - the ice cream van that is!)
We don't have children but there was a small adventure play area - although it did look more suitable for slightly older children rather than pre-school aged children.
Overall - we will definitely return - soon!

Visited on BH weekend this year. We had a lovely slate hard standing pitch. We stayed on the further most field which was silent! The toilets were some of the best we have used and massive. The only down side if you can call it that was the childrens play area was small and not really fit for our 4 year old (had to be bigger.)
Tavistock is great for the shops and only 10 minutes away. The moors are only minutes away too. All in all a very special site and well worth staying at. Well done to the owners.

Stayed for 2 nights (our first time camping), could have stayed longer!
A lovely site. The shower block was perfect, each cubicle had its own shower, sink and mirror. Also had a family bathroom, but didn't look in there.
Freezer available to refreeze ice-packs, which proved really useful.
Shop, although small, stocked most things. Owner/manager was very helpful, even lent us his own corkscrew as we had forgotten ours!
Family room was OK, had a pool/snooker table, tv and colouring for children.
Had play area, but didn't use it.
Electric and water taps were very close to pitch.
Had a lovely time. Highly recommended.

I lovely site that we will certainly return to with the most spacious showers we have ever come across.
It was a shame that the games room and information hut weren't open however I'm sure that the owners would have opened then if we had asked.
A perfect location for a dartmoor holiday especially if you have a dog with a nice sized dog exercise area also on site.

This site has excellent facilities, the toilet block is outstandingly clean and spacious. Each shower cubicle has its own toilet and sink within. It also has a family bathroom on site, which is excellent for families like ours with small children. My youngest child absolutely hates the shower and so the bathroom was a welcome surprise! It also has a lounge, with tv and settees and a small shop! Along with a fully equipped laundry room with washing machine, tumble drier and iron! We booked originally for three nights but decided to stay for longer and unfortunately had to move pitches as our pitch had been booked, with four young children this was not welcome news, but we moved and were pleased we had as the new pitch was in a better spot. The only downside to this campsite, if I can find one at all, is that it is not flat and so rolling off the air bed became an issue! Tavistock is only a short drive away with a Morrisons and Somerfield (this had a multi storey car park and a height restriction which my husband hadn't banked on with a renault espace and roof box, it was a very tight squeeze!) All in all though, the campsite was very well equipped and I would recommend it to others. Bear in mind though you are on the moors and as such low temperatures and wind are a strong possibility.

Really nice site. Thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay. Spacious pitches, well marked out, with room to park the car easily. Lots of pitches with hard standing and some tarmac ones for motorhomes. Facilities block is great. Huge showers, very clean, lots of hot water. The road was quite noisy during the day and early evening but we were not woken at night. Think this would be an ideal base for families who want to get out and about on the moors but not much to do on site. The parking area just up the hill on the edge of the moor is very popular for kite flying and there is usually an ice cream van parked there. A good day out, especially if you have bikes, is Burrator reservoir. Have to take the dog there to swim when we are in the area. For a nice meal, try the pub in Peter Tavy, dogs and children welcome.

Just returned from 5 nights at this campsite. I have to say it is probably the best maintained and well thought out campsite my family and I have visited. The shower block is immaculate and always had hot water available, each stall is complete with basin, toilet and large shower, plenty of space to take the children to shower and privacy too whilst you dried them off. The site was well drained and even though we had a reasonable amount of rain whilst we were there the campsite remained mud free. The play area was our only disappointment in that it was quite small and would have made the stay perfect had it been a little better. The dog run was secure and so for our playful 10 month Lab a heaven to run around in. All the bins etc were emptied daily so no over flowing which was great. Only a couple of miles from Tavistock with its shops and market plus easy distance for many of South Devon / North Cornwall's attractions, and even closer to Dartmoor and its lovely walks etc. Definitely somewhere to stay at again.

Very clean, with excellent washroom facilities. Close to the road which didn’t keep us awake although you could hear it - if you tried! Although quite why you’d want to …? Anyway the campers themselves were friendly and quiet at night which made for a happy stay.
The showers are fantastic. The site has the best bathroom facilities I have ever used, and I’ve been to quite a few. Easy for mums/dads who have to have a child in there whilst showering. Places to hang clothes up. Ample amount for the site although it was off-season when we went. The shop was small but well thought out so everything we needed. The pitch was flat (always good to have!) and plenty of room. Dartmoor is on the doorstep, and Tavistock a quick drive away. There is such beautiful scenery all around that it’s hard to sum up the local attractions! It snowed whilst we were camping – which meant a quick trip to Tavvy for a duvet thanks to my bad choice of a pitifully thin sleeping bag but nothing could spoil this trip as the campsite was such a joy. My only criticism of the site is a minor one – with all of that beautiful scenery, I found their ‘nature walk’ a bit lame. Anyone who walks regularly should give that a miss and head out onto the moor itself! Try the Rabbit Pie at the Warren, or something from one of the other pubs in the area. The kiddies playground was fine for my two monsters, aged 9 and 10. There were a few nice kids around whilst we were there, and mine were made welcome, both by kids and the adults we encountered. If there are boundaries in place I missed them - and I feel it probably adds to the respectfulness of the site, and didn’t hamper our fun one bit. There's also a bar on site which means you don't have to drive home.
Highly recommended – I’ll be going back.

Stayed at Higher Longford for 8 nights and we loved every minute of it. Fantastic site right on the edge of the moors. We camped in eclipse field and although this is near to the road it was very quite at night as there was not a lot of traffic coming over the moor. The shower and toilet blocks are excellent , and free. Plenty of showers and toilets and even though it was the bank holiday weekend when we were there and the campsite was full we never waited for the facilities. Our pitch was very spacious and we we had plenty of privacy. The dog walk is excellent. Will be going back to this campsite again next year. Ps order your organic freshly baked loaf of bread each night. Fetch it at 9.0clock the next morning it is still hot when you get it and tastes delicious.

Would agree with previous reviews, this is a lovely site.
However, even with the best of sites, there are still positive and negative sides.
On the positive, it was very clean. There are plenty of bins provided. The showers were cleaned every morning and the washing area had plenty of sinks and had bins for scraps.
Fantastically situated. Dartmoor is literally a few minutes drive up the hill. Tavistock is 5 minutes down the road with all the usual cashpoints/banks. Morrison's is just outside of the town on the Plymouth Road.
The site was always quite. The road to Princetown runs alongside the site but it never bothered us.
The showers are huge ! Each one is its own mini bathroom with a sink and toilet. More than adequate for myself and my daughter to share. There was never much of a ques no matter what time you went to them.
The owners were rarely seen. This was never a problem as the site seems to run as clockwork. There is an intercom if you need to contact them on the shop door.
We didn't use the family bathroom but as you do we did have a look. My daughter was astounded. "Look Mum the baths clean".
The site is obviously popular but never felt busy. There appear to be quite a few resident caravans so possibly it just looked full but not everyone was on site.
On the negative, there is nothing major but just little niggles that maybe only bothered us.
The showers are huge and clean. BUT they have no power to them. Some mornings it was all you could do to have a trickle from them. Trying to wash your hair was virtually impossible. Speaking to others on the site, it seemed to be the major problem with all.
The playpark is small and consists of a few balancing logs rather than any challenging equipment. Cycling for the children is allowed only in the Eclipse field and no where else on site. Speaking to the owner, I can understand his reasoning (children on fast bikes don't always see the cars coming round the corner) but is sort of limited my childrens fun.
We specifically chose the eclipse field to camp with our trailer tent. The electrics are slightly sloping and are situated along the fence. Not too much of a problem for us as we could level off.
We get the feeling that whilst children are catered for on the site, thery aren't particularly wanted. The eclipse field as mentioned contains the play equipment. Space for ball games etc though is limited by having units placed down the centre of the field. You need to park your car at the side of your unit because of this just to allow people on and off this part of the site. It was too dangerous to play any ball games (tennis/football etc) for fear of hitting the other tents.
Children under 14 are not allowed unaccompanied into the tv room. Again, frustrating for my 2 who are 9 and 6. I have no problem with them being unaccompanied when wanting to watch the Tweenies whilst I am washing the dishes, but this was a definate no no with managment who asked them to leave.
If you are lucky enough to get the weather, the nearest beach is a good 40+ minutes drive away. The nearest we found was actually Seaton beach near Looe in Cornwall. Due to the delights of british weather, we never got the chance to try and find one closer.
