Would agree with previous reviews, this is a lovely site.
However, even with the best of sites, there are still positive and negative sides.
On the positive, it was very clean. There are plenty of bins provided. The showers were cleaned every morning and the washing area had plenty of sinks and had bins for scraps.
Fantastically situated. Dartmoor is literally a few minutes drive up the hill. Tavistock is 5 minutes down the road with all the usual cashpoints/banks. Morrison's is just outside of the town on the Plymouth Road.
The site was always quite. The road to Princetown runs alongside the site but it never bothered us.
The showers are huge ! Each one is its own mini bathroom with a sink and toilet. More than adequate for myself and my daughter to share. There was never much of a ques no matter what time you went to them.
The owners were rarely seen. This was never a problem as the site seems to run as clockwork. There is an intercom if you need to contact them on the shop door.
We didn't use the family bathroom but as you do we did have a look. My daughter was astounded. "Look Mum the baths clean".
The site is obviously popular but never felt busy. There appear to be quite a few resident caravans so possibly it just looked full but not everyone was on site.
On the negative, there is nothing major but just little niggles that maybe only bothered us.
The showers are huge and clean. BUT they have no power to them. Some mornings it was all you could do to have a trickle from them. Trying to wash your hair was virtually impossible. Speaking to others on the site, it seemed to be the major problem with all.
The playpark is small and consists of a few balancing logs rather than any challenging equipment. Cycling for the children is allowed only in the Eclipse field and no where else on site. Speaking to the owner, I can understand his reasoning (children on fast bikes don't always see the cars coming round the corner) but is sort of limited my childrens fun.
We specifically chose the eclipse field to camp with our trailer tent. The electrics are slightly sloping and are situated along the fence. Not too much of a problem for us as we could level off.
We get the feeling that whilst children are catered for on the site, thery aren't particularly wanted. The eclipse field as mentioned contains the play equipment. Space for ball games etc though is limited by having units placed down the centre of the field. You need to park your car at the side of your unit because of this just to allow people on and off this part of the site. It was too dangerous to play any ball games (tennis/football etc) for fear of hitting the other tents.
Children under 14 are not allowed unaccompanied into the tv room. Again, frustrating for my 2 who are 9 and 6. I have no problem with them being unaccompanied when wanting to watch the Tweenies whilst I am washing the dishes, but this was a definate no no with managment who asked them to leave.
If you are lucky enough to get the weather, the nearest beach is a good 40+ minutes drive away. The nearest we found was actually Seaton beach near Looe in Cornwall. Due to the delights of british weather, we never got the chance to try and find one closer.

A gem of a site. Carefully planned, well run and maintained by helpful on-site owner-managers and in a beautiful location. I was camped on the 'Terraces' field and there was a great view out onto Dartmoor. Touring caravans were located on the adjoining field, which also looked to be well laid-out with EHU and flat, good sized pitches. Motorhomes were on tarmaced pitches on the edge of this field. The best designed showerblock I've ever come across, with each shower located in its own private 'shower room' with its own toilet, handbasin and mirror. A brilliant and very convenient facility. There is also a small shop, a laundry, ice-block freezing facility, family bathroom, gamesroom, information room and a very pleasant dog walk. Everywhere is immaculately looked after and spotlessly clean. The site is handy for both Tavistock and Princetown and, as it is set within the NPA boundaries, is ideally placed for exploring the moor. Highly recommended and hope to stay there again myself.

August 2005 Limited shop open for 1 hour morning and evening. The shower blocks are very good and very clean. 10 minutes walk puts you on Dartmoor and some fantastic walks. We will definitely return to this site and can recommend it to anyone wanting a base to do some good walking.

August 2004 I would agree with the other reviewer. This site has all you need and the owners were really friendly and helpful. It has its own pub on site with a good atmosphere and a spacious shower block. We found camping here very quiet and would stay here again.

June 2004 This is a smallish, neat site just 2 miles outside the lovely town of Tavistock yet very convenient for exploring Dartmoor. The owners/staff are friendly and it has a reasonable shop, a bar, restaurant with beer garden, children's play area and dog walk. The toilet facilities really put this site a step above other sites. They are spotlessly clean and have individual spacious cubicles containing a WC, washbasin and a free, temperature adjustable shower. Definitely one which we will be visiting again.
