This site is in a great location and beautiful part of the world. We arrived just in time to grab fish and chips - what a bonus. The site was quiet when we were there. The facilities were good and clean and the whole site seemed well looked after.
The shore is great for a wander and some wildlife spotting.
We did some walking in the near vicinity and experienced some wonderful scenery - Old Man of Stoer from the lighthouse is great and Kirkcaig falls is a wonderful walk. The cafe/bookshop at the beginning of the Kirkcaig falls walk is well worth a visit.
Local shops are few and far between so stock up well before hand, we had a long trip back in to Ullapool for baby milk on our visit.
A great campsite on the fantastic west coast of Scotland.

The site is in a great position, has all that you need, including a chip shop with good staff and the site management team could not be more helpful. Great place with great beaches, great views, great people, great for the kids as well as the adults who all had a great time with each other in a great place, what else can I say but a great place altogether. Highlight of the year was the fishing competition which was good fun for all who took part and watched.

What an amazing place. I'd seen photos but even once there I couldn't believe how stunning the beaches were. Pure white sand and clear brilliant blue seas it was like abroad (except the wind).
The site is medium sized. The ground is perfect for tents. The showers/ dish was area was very clean.
There were sheep everywhere when we were there, and we were worried they would keep us awake as they were very vocal but they settled down.
Oh but the beach. We had to really struggle to leave, what a sight.
The shops in Lochinver have all the things we needed but be warned - DO NOT run out of petrol/diesel here! The petrol station was 15p per litre more than most other places we visited!

I would agree with what's been said , great location , stunning beach(es) , peacefull , isolated, loveley walks up the coast. I would only add , the access road is extremely narrow in places , there are sheep on site I woke to find two of them asleep under my van ! And they like to visit the show blocks when it's raining. This is a camp site so don't expect any motorhome facilities , though it does have hookup . The grass was already getting a bit soft when I was there , otherwise all very splendid , if you have a kayak, small dinghy etc you'll have a ball.

July 2005 What a great site, fantastic views, beach on the doorstep of the site. Toilet block was clean and plenty of hot water. Site shop only stocks sweets and icecream, with basics available at a weekend. Chip shop on site ok too. Must do - go to Lochinver and the Pie shop - fab! Great site for families

June 2004 We have been visiting Achmelvich for 20 years and can honestly say there is no better place for peace and tranquility. If you want bars, restaurants, clubs and adventure playgrounds this is NOT the place for you. If you want to chill on white sandy pollution free beaches, swim in the clear turquoise sea, clamber over the beautiful coastline this place is perfect. In Summer the Sun doesn't set until 11pm, so barbeques and drinks in the awning can all be enjoyed long into the evening. After touring around Scotland we are always comparing sites to the beauty of Achmelvich, and so far none can compare. As a child I was able to safely wander off and discover my own little coves and hidden bays nearby, ideal for sea fishing and building sandcastles. As an adult you are able to forget the outside world and get back to basics, relaxing and playing board games or enjoying the glorious mountains of Assynt. Due to the single track road I wouldn't reccomend twin axle tourers or motorhomes over 24 foot but most competent caravanners can reach the site without too many problems. If you are looking for a site north of Ullapool and want to rediscover yourself I believe there is no better site, just don't tell everyone!

August 2004 My husbands family have been coming here for 26 years along with many other returning families!! Excellent site, very clean toilet / shower facilities. Gorgeous beach and views. Hopefully my children will holiday here in years to come with their children. Chip shop excellent, shop with basics (good supplies of sweets and ice lollies for the children). Very friendly and helpful staff and owners.

July 2004 Wonderful beach, good clean toilet facilities, off the beaten track if you want to get away from it all. Well worth the visit. And the chip shop is a bonus if you don't mind waiting for it to be freshly cooked

May 2004 Very friendly medium size site with electric hook-ups in an attractive location near a beautiful bay with white sands. Toilet and showerblock with CDP and dishwashing room plus fresh water points but no grey waste point for motorhomes. Not all the showers were available even though it was busy but those that were worked o.k. There is also a telephone on site. Bookings are not accepted.
The owner is very friendly and opens up chippy at night from 18:00 to 19:30 sellng fish and chips as well as sausages - it is all fresh cooked, reasonably priced and very tasty. We could only stay one night but it looked like there were lots of hillocks to explore as well as the superb beaches - mayb another time!
