We found this a great, secure site and would definitely return. There are very few restrictions and our pitch was quite large. The children enjoyed the free roaming chickens! The only downside was the lady owner who could do with smiling a bit more! As other reviews say, there is no shop on site so we used Somerfield in Dursley. We would recommend Cattle Country (5 mins drive) and the Gloucester & Sharpness canal at Purton (10 mins drive) is a nice place to take a picnic.

As a party of six children and six adults we were generally quite pleased with this site. We stayed in three tents of varying sizes and took over the far end of the tent field. There was some confusion over the price of the stay with the gentleman on reception unsure whether to charge for the children under three or not. Many discussions later with us and the owner those children were allowed to stay for free!
Chickens were ever present at meal times as were the wasps. The play ground was quite old although it was safe and did the job of keeping the children amused whilst tea was cooking.
The facilities were adequate, although please remember to take some hand soap and a towel when using the toilets as this was not provided. A little more lighting of an evening would be good too.
Spent a day at local Cattle Country which was excellent and I would highly recommend for children and adults alike! Used local Tesco in Dursley as there was little sign of the shop on the camp site.
We did thoroughly enjoy our time here. The site was neat and tidy, the grass nice and short and there were very few restrictions. Remember that you get what you pay for!

As there is not a lot of info on this site I'll start with directions! From the M5 J14, take the A38 North for about 2 miles until you pass a pub called the Stagecoach on the left, with a disused hotel on the right. About 1/2 a mile on you see a sign for the campsite. Turn right and then first left for the campsite. Fairly straightforward. The site is guarded by high walls and a security gate with a keypad. There is no bell or intercom system so you will just have to wait for the owner to spot you!
Once inside the campsite is quite well laid out with the pitches dispersed across about 3 fairly large fields. When we got there we were directed to our pitch by the owner which was close to electrical hook up and water/waste facilities. Nice. There is a small play area with some climbing frames, see saws, etc which is kept very tidy. As I said though the fields are quite large so there is plenty of scope for games of cricket, badminton, etc.
The toilet and shower blocks are clean, basic and functional. Showers were hot. No frills, perfectly adequate. There is another building containing a washing up area with 2 sinks, washing machine and tumble dryer. This is also clean but a bit scruffy and could perhaps do with a lick of paint and a tidy up! There is supposed to be a shop but I couldn't see any evidence of it, bar a scribbled cardboard sign giving (very limited) opening times which did not seem to happen while I was there. So I wouldn't depend on it for stocking up. Perhaps it has been discontinued, I didn't get around to asking the owner.
Now, one or two negatives. Firstly, chickens! There are loads free ranging around the site. Now on one level this is quite quaint and in keeping with the rural feel of the site. But after a while this wears off as they mess everywhere and can be a bit of a be a nuisance, pecking at your legs and even jumping up on the tables to grab your food when you are not looking. I got a bit fed up cleaning chicken poo off the tables, my kids hands and clothes and would willingly have wrung their necks at the end of the weekend! I do think they would be better kept away from the camping areas for health and hygiene reasons.
Secondly, I felt the campsite owner was a bit strict and over officious with the children telling them off severely on a couple of occasions for what were fairly minor infringements. There were quite a few kids of various ages on the site and in the main they were behaving themselves and not causing any trouble that I could see. (The play area was in view and close to our pitch) I'm a bit puzzled as to why she had such a downer on them. Perhaps she has had some bad experiences with campers' children in the past Anyway, it has to be mentioned as it did leave a bit of a sour taste.
All that said with the sun shining, the kids playing happily and the very pleasant pitches surrounded by mature trees of various types, we had a nice relaxing weekend. Apart from the above problems the site has a very laid back feel to it and we would probably visit again if down this way.
Costs were around £35 for 2 nights, including electrical hook up, which seems reasonable.
There are some nice villages around and about and a fairly large theme farm type place called Cattle Country about 10 minutes away which was quite good value for a day out.

We visited for 3 nights over a bank holiday weekend (2 Adults 2 kids) in a tent. It was the first time we had camped with kids and it was a pleasant experience.
Pitches were flat and the facilities were good. Toilets and showers (gents) were a bit crowded in the morning but the showers were not timed and were warm.
Generally the facilities were clean and tidy. Ideally suited for families and kids. Berkley is 5-10 minutes away were you can get most provisions if you run out. We did hear the trains and the motorway but it was not intrusive.
There was a good vibe to the site and we would stay again.

Absolutely wonderful site. Very clean & well looked after. The coded gates gave our party of 5 families peace of mind, knowing they could not leave the site without us. Friendly & helpful people. The shower block was a bit of a problem (water too hot or freezing cold) but this was rectified quickly. Overall, fantastic, 7 families to be returning August, looking forward to it.

As this site was just down the road from where I live, my Dad and his partner camped for a weekend here. I visited and was very impressed, Clean site, tidy , quiet, small play area that kept my two boys happy (aged 3 and 6) and secure (keypad-ed gate). Dad said that it was a nice site and would stay there again.

July 2005 Quiet site, with no noise from the motorway or railway. Very spacious field, with good play area for under 21s. Ladies' showers were a bit temperamental (cold) but everything was clean. We will come back.

July 2005 A pleasant quiet little site, would stay again if in the area. The motorway was not noisy and the trains didn't run at night, or perhaps I was too drunk to notice. My wife said the ladies showers were cold! Mine was alright! Ringing a bell for the shop did not really work.

Site is near to Berkeley Castle, Cattle Country adventure play area (excellent for kids with energy to burn for a whole day)and Slimbridge Wildfowl Centre. Also near many lovely villages and plenty of good walks.
However, the site is also near the motorway and mainline railway so possibility of sleepless nights.
Site more suitable for caravans than tents. Showers and toilets are very clean although the 'shop' is accessable only by pressing bell and waiting for service. Childrens play area will not satisfy older children.
As always, out of season there will be plenty of space. The area is flat and the site well kept. Pitches are mostly against hedges.
