Date of Visit: June 2015 Unit:  Touring Caravan
Reviewer: Madcow1964 1 review from this member

My husband, disabled mother-in-law and myself stayed on this site in the last week of June and were lucky enough to have glorious weather!

I chose Arrow Bank for its peaceful location in the gorgeous village of Eardisland and for its proximity to the National Trust properties of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall (I now want to live in Croft Castle - stunning!). We also visited 2 other Trust properties - Lower Brockhampton near Bromyard; and Cwmmau Farmhouse with its view of the Brecon Beacons (incredibly, this quaint timbered house is used as a holiday let and is only open to the public on 8 days each year - 4 of those days coinciding, accidentally, with our holiday!).

As Arrow Bank has only fairly recently been taken over the privet hedges have yet to grow to afford any privacy between the backs of the caravans in the 2 central rows (although the pitches are staggered so no-one looks into the back of the opposite unit). However, this is my only criticism! My mother-in-law did find the rough road to the toilet block rather uncomfortable on her mobility scooter, so maybe tarmac would be a better option one day.

Having said all that, we would definitely come back here! From enquiring by email, then phone, to arriving at reception, whoever I dealt with was polite, warm and friendly and very helpful. This was our first time on a fully serviced pitch so I had a lot of questions about what we'd need! In the end we only had to borrow one of their long TV aerial leads and we invested in a floatation unit for our water barrel before we went.

The shower / toilet block was kept in pristine condition and always warm, with free showers (very welcome at the end of every hot humid day!). My mother-in-law always used the disabled toilet / wet room and was very happy with the facilities. We didn't need to use the laundry room / sinks / microwave, but did find the tourist information section of that room very useful and added to the leaflets!

For groceries we found Morrisons supermarket in Leominster very handy, with a huge range of products and a large dedicated carpark. Hereford has a B&Q for tools needed to repair a caravan leg!

Must-see places for anyone interested in gardens are the amazing Ralph Court Gardens near Bromyard (fun for children, too, with all the themed garden rooms - see their website); and Westbury Water Gardens near Pembridge, close to the campsite - with their fabulous solution to what to do with leftover wine bottles!

Leave plenty of time if you want to visit Hereford Cathedral (plus the exhibition on the Magna Carter and the Mappa Mundi) - it has a breathtaking interior. Hereford is not a huge sprawling city so isn't too difficult to get around and there are numerous carparks. For a wet day (we had one) we can recommend a visit to the Cider Museum near to Sainsburys just off the main road into the city from Leominster. The museum is very good value for money and is a lot bigger than it first appears! We spent over 2 hours in there!

We also visited Hay-on-Wye, about 15 miles from Eardisland. There is a large carpark behind the craft centre (love unusual jewellery? - browse Satori! Amazing!), and it is a short walk into the jumble of little streets and fascinating shops - and 27 or so book shops! It was also market day when we went - a Thursday - and, unfortunately, this made getting about on a mobility scooter even more hair-raising as the paths are very narrow and the small town can get very busy.

It was not until our final day that we got to try out the delights of Rita's Tearooms in Eardisland - her cream teas are to die for! We also took some cake / fruit crumble back to the caravan. She also stocks some of the scrummiest icecreams ever! Made by 'Rachel', with flavours such as Black Treacle, and Sloe Gin. Heavenly! Rita, herself, is warm and welcoming and we felt like we had made a friend for life in the time we were there.

One last thing - we arrived on the weekend of the Shobdon Airshow and Food Festival so the site was quite busy until Sunday lunchtime. The local icecream van visited the site that Friday evening. Though we didn't go to the show, we did visit Shobdon church and Shobdon Arches - difficult to find without a satnav but well worth a visit (especially as a tiny Hereford calf had just been born in a nearby field!). The church has a white-painted Gothic interior, unlike any other church we've come across.

I can heartily recommend Arrow Bank, Eardisland, and the whole of Herefordshire - the most unspoilt and rural county it has ever been my pleasure to visit!

We have just returned from another break at Arrowbank, which we have visited several times. We have always found it to be a peaceful haven in a beautiful location. The River Arrow flows through the park and fishing is FOC. The toilets/showers are very nice and always clean. There is no play park for children but plenty of space to play games on. Staff have always been very friendly and helpful. It is definitely one of our favourite sites.

However, on this occasion we visited over a weekend instead of on a weekday and now new super pitches were installed, a large number of pitches are taken up by seasonal tourers, the owners of whom all seem to own barking/yapping dogs that although they should be kept on a lead are allowed to run through other peoples pitches and exercised on the playing field not on the dog walk area. This really spoiled our visit.

During our visit there was no hot water in the showers or for dish washing for three days which was not very convenient for our family who were camping with young children, apart from a note on the door the management were not interested

It seems to me that once they have taken your money anything goes, the management are never seen on site making sure their rules are being adhered to, which is such a shame this used to be such a lovely site.

So if you're a dog owner who couldn't care less about other peoples enjoyment of their holiday, and not too worried about personal cleanliness, this is the site for you, or so it seems at present.
Management response: Many thanks for taking the time to post a review of our park. We are sorry to hear that this visit was not as nice for you as all of your previous happy holidays here.

The August Bank Holiday weekend is our busiest weekend of the year. While management were on-park we were extremely busy with our Charity Hog Roast event.

We do not tolerate dogs off leads and insist that all dogs are kept on leads at all times apart from when they are in the exercise field.

Regarding the hot water, an emergency call-out was made and an interim fix was put in place for the Saturday. This is the first and only time it has happened and a shame that it had to be on such a busy weekend.

We apologise that your expectations were not met by our usual high standards. We can assure you that every effort is made to accommodate our visitors to ensure that their holiday time with us is an enjoyable experience.

The park has had many upgrades over the past tweleve months, the super pitches being a huge improvement to the previous hard-standing plots. This has been reflected in the popularity of seasonal pitch requests. We try to maintain a balance between the amount of seasonal pitches on park and the need to welcome passing trade as well as return visitors.

The ambiance at Arrow Bank is very important to us and we try to monitor the park as best we can. I hope you understand this is a fine line to tread as we want to encourage enjoyment of the grounds and not obstruct the freedom to do that by having a 'police' approach. Having said that we have, on occasion, had to talk to visitors about the behaviour of their dogs. We will always address any issues at the time they arise and only wish you had made the office aware of the problem.

Your comment that the management were not interested is unfair. The circumstances during your visit we feel were exceptional and we pride ourselves on customer care, reflected by our ongoing customer questionnaires of 96% satisfaction.

We appeal to any customers at any establishment to make the staff aware of any issues at the time they arise.

We hope that the happy times spent here will encourage you to visit Arrow Bank again.

Arrow banks is a lovely site. The entrance drive is beautiful leading to a flat site, wonderful for tents. The gentleman in reception was really helpful as were the rest of the staff throughout the week. The toilets and showers were kept clean. There is another room which has loads of extras, walks, microwave, a book swapping section, local photos and lots more. There is no playground but a large field but for us that makes a perfect site. It only takes 5minutes to walk into the picturesque village with church, pub, cafe and small shop. I would recommend this site for anyone wanting a friendly site and a peaceful break.

Just returned from a 4 night break over the Whit Bank Holiday weekend.

The site is part of the Best Parks group of sites, having being impressed by one of their sister parks at Westbrook Park we decided to give Arrow Bank a go. The park is primarily an owner owned static caravan park with a separate part of the park dedicated to 36 all weather caravan pitches and 9 tent EHU pitches. Using the touring and tent pitches you wouldn't even know the statics were there as they are in a totally separate area.

The site, as with all the Best Park sites, is immaculately maintained with a spacious feel on the touring park. Most of the all weather pitches have been upgraded to full services (ie water, waste and electric). As for the tent pitches, these are against a tall hedge on a well maintained level grassy area. There are only 9 tent pitches, all with EHU, in a single row with a large grassed area about 30 metres wide between them and the caravan pitches. All the pitches are at least 10m wide and our pitch (T6) being next to the water point was at least 15m wide giving a huge area for use to pitch our large family tent.

A lot of the caravans on the site are seasonal vans and as such there are a lot of regulars on the site, this led to a friendly relaxed atmosphere on site. Noise was never an issue and everyone we met was friendly and polite.

The toilet block for both men and women each contained 3 wash basins, 3 showers and 3 toilets. Considering it was the whitsuntide Bank Holiday weekend we never had to queue for showers or toilets, in fact we hardly ever saw anybody else using them! There is also a laundry room with two washing up sinks, two washer driers, ironing equipment, books to loan and local infomation. Again we never had to queue to use the washing up facilities. The only down side of the facilities when being in a tent is that it is a bit of walk of a couple of hundred metres, not far but further than most sites.

All the facilities were spotlessly clean.

The owners were very friendly and helpful in a refreshing unobtrusive way.

We visited with our 9 year old daughter, and while she enjoyed the break there weren't any other children her own age on the site when we were there. There is a very large field behind the tent area where you can play ball games etc but nothing else for kids to do. This is in no way a criticism as they don't advertise this as a site for children but needs to be considered if you have kids that get easily bored.

The site is 5 minutes walk from the lovely village of Eardisland with its black and white timbered heritage, a walk to the village is recommended to while away an hour or two in very pleasant surroundings. The local community shop stocks the basics but there is a large Morissons about 5 minute drive away on the outskirts of Leominster. We also enjoyed an excellent meal at the White Swan pub in Eardisland where you will enjoy a warm friendly welcome by the landlord.

We can thoroughly recommend this site for a relaxing peaceful break in well kept attractive surroundings and we will definitely return in the future!

What a great site even with the reception blown down by the gales in March. The temporary reception was in a chalet just inside the holiday home area and the site manager was very helpful.

The welcome was excellent and the super pitch was 'super' with the addition of a waste water hose and collector box that can be positioned under the caravan outlet.

The site is being invested in with additional super pitches to be added this coming year.

The grounds are immaculate and having the very attractive village so close is a real bonus.

Eardisland has only the one 'community shop' housed in the 'Dovecote' that sells newspapers and the basics.

There is a Morrisons a few miles down the road so stocking up is easy.

There are also 2 pubs and our dog and ourselves were made very welcome in the White Swan which has its own micro-brewery. The 2 beers we tried were excellent. The Cross Inn was closed due to illness so we never got to try it. There are also 2 tearooms.

We will return as the area is very attractive and Leominster is a great little town. We followed the satnav to the tourist information and found a reasonably priced car park that had plenty of space. It is right next to the centre as well.

We have just returned from our fourth visit to this wonderful site. The lay out was perfect with amply space between the pitches. The staff on site were very helpful an live on site so any issues they can be dealt with as soon as they arise. There are plenty of walks in the area, and two pubs that are less than 5 minutes walk. Food is spot on and fairly cheap as well. Good fishing on site, with wild brownies in the river. Looking forward to the next visit. Many thanks

We left Cirencester early Sunday morning of the bank holiday weekend still heading north with no idea were we would end up staying we saw a sign saying Eardisland historic village and decided to have a look on the drive through the village we saw the sign for Arrow bank holiday park and decided to give them a call they had two pitches left and we decided to stay there. What a great choice the hard standing pitch is a nice size and very flat the facilities are excellent showers and toilets are spotless and the area for washing your pans is the best we have used and a lot of information in there as we'll. The wardens have only been there a few weeks but are so welcoming and the customer service is second to none the site also has a large field behind the camping area for kids to play football rugby fly kites anything they like there is also an area for you to let your dogs off the lead. The park is about two minutes walk from the village of Eardisland a lovely little place try the white swan and say hello to jess the pubs Labrador so cute this is a lovely campsite with great staff well worth a visit

This park is part of the Best Parks company, and they have only taken it over about 18 months ago. They are still developing it so it is not up to the excellent standard of the other touring parks they have that we have tried, ie. Westbrook and Poston Mill.

The facilities were only electric hookups, my wife is getting spoilt going to the other sites mentioned above. Toilet facilities were adequate but not cleaned out during the 4 days we were there.

The owners were very friendly and made a fuss of our dog. The dog walk area was a bit small to give an active dog a good run off lead, but there was a field at the back of the site we could let our dog off, but the ground was uneven and I was worried he might get a leg caught in a rabbit hole.

There is no shop on site but the village of Eardisland is 5 mins walk away.

Eardisland is on the black and white village Hereford trail and full of character.

In Eardisland the pub The White Swan is a must to visit, the owner is extremely friendly and loves dogs. He made sure our dog had water to drink and even treated him to a couple of his dog's biscuits. We had 3 meals there and the owner does the cooking and even brews his own beers, very palatable.

We may go back when they have upgraded the facilities but the cost is excessive for the few facilities they offer a the moment.

Used UKCampsite.co.uk review for the first time and was not disappointed. The site as it said was a haven for couples and very quiet and peaceful, you wouldn't have believed it was the school holidays. The village of Eardisland was a delight to walk round. The showers etc were immaculate and were cleaned regularly each day. Staff were warm and welcoming. The walk to Pembridge was very rewarding (4 miles circular). We will certainly be returning.

Our fourth visit to Arrow Bank and we still love it. It is so peaceful and in such a picturesque location. The site is now part of the BestParks Group and was looking very well kept. The showers are now free which was a bonus. We took our van to Leominster, easy parking in the car park behind the fire station. We also drove the 10 miles to Ludlow, use the park and ride off the main road only 95p return. Don't miss the cheese shop at Monkland. Delicious cheese, cake and country wines.

This is one of our favorites and the fact there are 2 pubs and a stunning village in easy walking distance is fabulous. I hope the new owners don't change too much. I understand the touring area is adults only still but there were a couple of very small children when we were there. Not a problem for me but it may be for some.

Another great stay. Shame we had to come home. Sigh!
