We had our second and third visit here to the site in September, both weekends where great weather wise though very damp in the mornings.

It's the end of the season and the site is beginning to look very tired. A broken window on the indoor swimming pool broken on our arrival Friday just covered with card board and tape, was left until Sunday before they decided to remove the broken glass, it was only the outer pain of a double glazed unit. On my return visit two weeks later the window was still in the same condition (safe but broken).

The toilet block was feeling a little sorry for itself, the door locks and fitting braking or broken, the porta cabins in the touring area on the other hand where very nice.

In all the site was very clean if a little tired but that is to be expected as it was coming to the end of the season.

On our first visit we found the washing up facilities to be a little bit far so now we just fill the washing up bowl with water in the toilet block and wash up back at the tent.

Great walks by the river and fun for the kids to go crabbing.

We will be returning again next season for some weekend stays there.

We visited this site the weekend before the august bank holiday. The site is a mere 40 minutes from home and we have used it in the past as a last minute get away. The staff, are friendly and helpful and the site is always clean and tidy although quite bumpy. The toilets and showers are about average. The entertainment in the cramped and cold club house leaves an awful lot to be desired and the bar prices are higher than our local pub prices (Romford). There are now porta-cabin showers and toilets in the main touring field which are a new addition to the site . These were kept clean and tidy. My main gripe is with the expensive bar prices and woeful entertainment in a cold and draughty club house. Daytime entertainment for the children is via; it would seem the ubiquitous giant fluffy animal which on this site is a sort of black daffy duck.

The surrounding countryside if pleasant and walks along the river which is only a few yards away is nice although can be a bit smelly at low tide. The shop is not very well stocked and the small diner takes quite a while to get the food on the table.

This site is in a nice setting, sheltered by trees & is about 2 miles from Poole. We had a lot of heavy rain & the water seemed to lie on the surface of the ground creating mud. There was very little grass around our pitch. Very poor drainage.

The bulbs had blown in the toilet block, showers were powerful but only warm. They were cleaned regularly but both blocks at same time resulting in no toilet facilities for a hour or so.

The bar was ok with live entertainment each night, but had a fusty damp odor. The games room had 2 pool tables but games machines were old & only about 1/2 were working. Take away did nice chips with friendly service.

Poorly stock and most ridiculously priced campsite shop weve ever been in.

The swimming pool was supposed to be heated but my daughter could only manage 10 minutes before getting too cold.

To conclude this review - this is the most expensive camping holiday we have had and we wont be returning. Its a good job this wasn't our first go at camping cos it would put us off for life!

Stayed 3 nights here - the staff are very friendly, clean and good facilities.

Please be aware that the club stays open very late and the static caravan owners are very inconsiderate when leaving the club.2am in the morning!

What a shame that they have no consideration for people trying to sleep!

We've visited this site three times recently.

The first time we visited was May Bank holiday. We supposed to be staying there for 8nights. However awful weather and illness, meant we only managed two. Kieran in the office kindly arranged for us to take the other six nights as two weekends later on in the yr. He did this despite dealing with a total blackout and several irate customers. I must admit, not everyone was happy with the service received. P'haps Kieran took pity on me?

The first visit in May was awful, wind and rain and puddles everywhere. Site is very bumpy. Wind was blowing straight up the river Blackwater and flattening our tent. We were pitched by the dyke.

Second visit and third visits during July much nicer, like a different site. Pitched by dyke again for 2nd visit but amongst EHU for 3rd.

All pitches were a bit hard and pegs had to be persuaded to go in. Ground on all pitches bumpy, although the ones right by the dyke seem flatter than the EHU pitches.

All the facilities are at one end of the touring site. There are three toilets and three showers for each sex next to the Pool, with more round the back past the statics. On last visit (during children’s summer holidays) they had opened portacabins with toilets and showers. We had no problems with cleanliness and the portacabins showers were lovely.

The washing up area is very badly placed as it is right past everything on the other side of the site. Long walk for those of us in tents with no onboard washing facilities. In same room were the washing machines and dryers.

Play area small, suitable for younger children, next to club.

Club is very small for the size of site. So it was very busy the first time we visited and unbearable. Other two weekends it was fine.

Pool is tiny, and operates sessions when busy. You can book into a session in advance. There was always a lifeguard present when we swam.

Small shop on site not a huge choice, and normal site prices.

Cafe next to shop we didn't use so can't comment. Although we did have chips to takeaway one night. And was pleased to note they do a child sized potion of chips.

There was second touring area much further along the park. The May Bank holiday this area had portacabins toilets, but nothing the 2nd and 3 rd time we visited. It would be a long walk at night to the toilet block. This area seemed much quieter, than ours. Due to less units. There are several seasonals on this site.

The lake at the end of the site was being used for remote boats and blow up dinghies on our later visits.

Nearest supermarkets are Tesco in Maldon or Asda in Southwoodham Ferrers, both a fair drive away.

We walked along the river on the nice weekends to the Stone inn. Walk to sea wall, turn left and keep going. Follow sea wall, till it ends then follow the river. Very pleasant sitting watching the boats launching. We also had Sunday lunch here, again very pleasant. We walked along river, but you must be careful if you go this way as the mud is very soft in places. There are concrete banks but these are sloping. Not for the unsteady, as I found out much to my kids amusement. And you can only go this way at low tide. I believe there is a pathway through the houses once the sea wall ends, but as I said we went via the river, so not sure about the pathway.

I doubt we’d visit this site again despite the warm welcome from Keith and Mary the Wardens. Bit too isolated for us.

We stayed heer for 3 nights as our introduction to camping.

The site is clean and friendly and well laid out, staff were very helpful and very very friendly.

Site was not too busy considering the bank holiday period

It really is in the middle of nowhere, and we love that about it, not too busy not too commercial and it had a little pool not huge but my baby loved the little slide.

The day we packed up to come home we left a day early and the site staff came over as they were very concerned we hadnt enjoyed our stay or that something was wrong, once we assured them everything was brilliant and we would be back they looked very relieved.

It has a small launderette on site and a little park just outside the clubhouse, which meant the husband could have a pint and the kids could play and I could wash up, but still be all together.

Lovely little site and beach beautiful views from the dyke across the water especially when the sun is setting.

Very relaxing site, perfect for a quick get away and weekend breaks as it isnt far from home for us

A very nice site, staff friendly and welcoming. Upon arrival we were quickly shown to our pitch and had the amenities pointed out to us.

The ground was rock hard and cracked and bumpy but for a few bent tent pegs, the air beds solved the rest.

The touring field is in the middle of the static caravans and water and rubbish disposal points are never too far from you.

A lovely walk to the river at the bottom of the site and a small lake where the kids (or dads) can go crabbing.

Didn't use all the site facilities like the club house or the swimming pool, but heard the club empty out from around 11:30pm until midnight which got a bit loud but it was only for halve an hour and I was just sat outside enjoying the warm night. The kids found the park and games room which kept them amused for a while.

In all a very pleasant site and would definitely return again for another visit.

We stayed there in the May half term for 3 nights mid week. Arrived at 3.30pm and were allowed to pitch straight away. On their details they say they you have to pitch up at 4pm. Which I feel is a bit too late in the day to pitch especially when you have two small children. Touring pitch was on the left as soon as you come into the site. Near all the facilities. Did go for a wander around the park and found another touring field further up the park, without any additional toilet blocks. It would be about 5 min walk to the toilet block if you were on this field. Ask for the field near to the swimming pool. Also the pitches are a bit bumpy, We had two huge puddles in our awning.

1) Toilet block - clean - Only 3 ladies showers - nowhere to put clothes while your washing the children. Only 1 hook behind the door.

2) Swimming pool - smaller than expected.

3) Club house was modern and clean, good kids entertainment and games room - take plenty of spare change.

4) Shop - under stocked.

5) Laundry - good - 3 washing machines & 4 dryers all working and clean. Take your own soap powder as the shop had one pack and it was very expensive.

6) Rained everyday we were there - Huge puddles everywhere. Not much drainage.Lots of bumps in the field. Lots of static vans. One field for tourers, short walk to toilet block.

7) Found it really hard to find the site, even with The AA route finder. Not many signs for St Lawrence Bay.

8) 10 miles from the nearest town - Maldon.

Next door to the site there is a pub with an Indian resturant - Lovely food and very friendly staff.

This is a great little site located on the river Blackwater. Been there 3 times this year so far. Promenade Park in Maldon has free facilities such as a adventure playground and water park and river side walks just pay for the parking and the cheap fairground about £1 per ride.

Plus points.

You are able to walk to the water front and the small beach.

Friendly site wardens.

Good entertainment.

Good indoor pool(although rather small) and spa.

Relatively clean toilet and shower block (although only 3 showers)

Negative points

Washing up facilities a walk from the touring field, past the club house.

Club house too small for the site, difficult to find a table.

Unable to receive a TV signal even with a aerial booster.( going to have to buy a satellite system )

Ground can be a bit uneven in places.

All in all a very good site and cheap too!

The site has a clubhouse which gets rather overcrowded for the size of the site.  There is a small indoor pool and we found that this could be a little dirty and there wasn't always a lifeguard.  The jacuzzi was pretty dirty as was the changing rooms.
The site toilets were cleaned regularly but because of the amount of usage became filthy quite quickly.  The site basically needed more manpower, the staff were pleasant and tried to be helpful but there just weren't enough of them.
We found that there were some very noisy folk on the site that seemed to get away with it which was disappointing as it spoiled it for most.
The health and safety with regard to distance that tents / caravans should be from each other was often ignored.  The site itself is situated in a very pleasant spot near the side of the river and is great for walks.  All in all if you don't mind noise this is the site for you.
There is plenty for kids to do but don't go here if you are looking for a quiet retreat.
