The review below by HandD says it all really. A great little campsite, with a really welcoming, cosy atmosphere. The bothy is a lovely touch - the 5 of us enjoyed a relaxed evening in front of the wood burning stove with some ovaltine! Perfect.
Also worth mentioning - the site has a workshop for bikes and motorbikes. And the owner kindly offered to look at one of our bikes. Amazing if you're touring/mountain biking.
Remember the midge repellent

We stopped at this lovely site by chance, as we had been heading home due to rain, but the sun came out and tempted us to extend our holiday by a day. We saw the brown campsite sign in the village and headed for Sunart Campsite. Tim met us and was very welcoming and friendly, even offering us a hose for filling our van with water.
The site is being refurbished and is already looking wonderful. There are only a few hardstanding pitches, nicely spaced out and all with electric hookup. We chose one close to the tent area and found it to be easy to level the van there.
The toilet block is clean, although a little dated in style. There are 3 toilets but only one shower, however it has great hot water at good pressure and I didn't have to queue.
There are a couple of lovely touches, a dog shower, complete with dog shampoo! And a 'bothy' which contains a wood burning stove, tea and coffee facilities, a library, table and chairs and a sofa! Ideal for chilly evenings, or to escape the midgies. This also has a great decking area out front.
The dishwashing sinks are clean and have washing up liquid and brushes. The waste/chemical disposal is conveniently situated at the rear between the toilet block and the bothy.
There are also laundry facilities. Located in the village centre its only a short walk to the local hotel. Ideal location and great wee site.

Very friendly owner (Yorkshireman) is doing a great job updating the site and its facilities having bought the site recently so you have to allow for a WIP and know it will improve from what was a pretty good site overall anyway.
Facilities were clean and being improved on. Could do with more showers and some hooks to hang clothes on. Pitches were pretty level and well spaced out with hook-up too.
Price was a bit high at £19.00 per night for the two of us so he must be looking for a return on his investment which would be considerable. Site was busy but was quiet.
There's a hut/room for campers to get away from the weather/midges etc if required. The site itself is in a beautiful area but is behind a housing estate with no views.
Strontian is very quiet with very little going on. You can hire bikes from the site too.
I think I would return in future.

I would highly recommend this lovely little campsite!
Tim and Lynn are extremely friendly and even though I was camping on my own I felt extremely safe and ended up feeling quite at home by the end of my stay.
Great facilities, with a room that has a kettle / tea / coffee along with a wood burning stove and power socket that came in handy several times.
The location is also very convenient, 2 min walk to the local shop and pub, which is right next to the loch. Great campsite!

What a little gem this campsite is -sitting behind the village square at Strontian and handy for a couple of local hotels which offer pub meals -it's a great base to explore the area. Although the site is in the village, its one of the most peaceful sites we have used as it is not situated adjacent to the main traffic.
There is hard standing and a campers field, plenty of hook ups and water points at each end pretty level -but Tim made sure we got pitched in best way and was quick to lend us levellers for the duration,
The new owners are working hard to create a very welcoming site with first class facilities -the toilet block is sparkling clean, the shower was hot and you didn't have to keep pressing buttons to get the water to keep running. Soap and electric hand and hair drier provided
The dish wash area is very clean and Tim thoughtfully provides all you need for clean dishes, the usual laundry and waste water /chem are all conveniently located in the amenity block which also includes a dog shower
One of the best things in this site is a new area the owners have created, a very comfortable bothy area for campers to relax -tables chairs settee and a log burner inside -and sunny patio deck outside. Tea making facilities with an honesty box, selection of books and mags to read and a fridge to keep our food -make this facility a brilliant addition to this site-if you are tent camping /cycle camping in this area -this would be a big plus on colder nights or warm ones to avoid the midges.
Although the are no play areas on site -the village has a playground and library within 5 minutes walk as well as 2 shops and tourist info -and there's lots to do in the area The Airundle centre 1mile up the road is situated by, nature walks.
The surrounding oak woods are very beautiful with rich wildlife and the whole area is unspoilt The site also hires mountain bikes and there 5 routes to choose, the tourist office has leaflets. We had a great stay and we will definitely go back -thanks for the loan of the levellers

Just returned from a fabulous holiday in Ardnamurchan. Spent the first two days at Sunart (Glenview) campsite at Strontian. The campsite itself is being renovated by the new owners and is already looking fantastic.
Tim and Lynne are truly wonderful people. Sadly the weather on arrival was not as kind as they were! We lost two of our tent poles on the first night due to high winds. Not only did Tim and Lynne rent their own static caravan to us, Tim even lent us his own tent so that we could carry on camping - outstanding service.
The site itself is coming along nicely, the showers are hot, the facilities very clean, wash rooms warm and in great condition. Tim has built a stunning decking area, the quality of his building work (joinery)is excellent. Although the bothy and the laundry room are not quite finished, if all done to the same standard this will be a campsite to reckon with. I suspect all will be complete very soon, as Tim seems to be working tirelessly to get the job done.
There is a reasonably substantial swing park near the campsite too. You can rent bikes from Tim and Lynne if you want to go further afield, or just cycle around the area.
I think you would need for nothing at this site as the owners are so accommodating, if they don't have it, they'll get it! Thank you guys.
Beautiful stream running through the site and great woods nearby, where you can walk from the camp site to Ariundle Forest via the 'Fairy Road' or take an alternative route, many to choose from.
Great pub and hotel nearby, we didn't eat there, but the beer was good (I went for bottled ale - scrummy if not a little expensive), and the staff were very friendly, nice burning stove too.
The area itself is lovely, lots of nice walks and areas to BBQ. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

People who run site are friendly enough & the lady was doing her best to keep everything clean.
This was an uphill battle as the site - which is beautifully situated - was rather old and dilapidated. The water was always warm and the toilet facilities were cleaned, as far as I could tell, on an ongoing basis. Sadly the state of them did leave a lot to be desired. Purely due to the age more than anything.
The whole site looked as though it had been left in a time warp since the 60's.
Don't be put off though - it has a unique charm.
Disagree with the previous reviewer about the local hotel. I thought the service was a disgrace.

Rustic! That's how we would describe this site! Very friendly welcome from lady with hens and dog. It was difficult to distinguish exactly where the 'hardstanding' pitches were. Grass and weeds about a foot tall and could hardly find the hook up points for taller weeds. We used the shower only because we were going to the local hotel for a meal otherwise we wouldn't have bothered. Shower curtain contained various mouldy growths and part of the ceiling had come away revealing even more mould. The water took an age to drain away so you ended up standing in the dirty shower water. The dishwashing sinks were disgusting, but that is probably more the fault of whoever had used them previously. Fabulous location but the site does need a wee bit care and attention. Local hotel staff were very helpful when one of our party returned their meal as it was cold and very unappetising. Apologised and served another meal for free. The other meals were very good and reasonably priced.

You can have a fire at this site and there is plenty of wood. We had smoked mussels! Collect them at the lochside. Feels like 'real' camping but with all the facilities you need - good shower (one each), soap and loo-roll in toilets, sheltered dish-washing, picnic tables. Pastoral feel (of course there are midgies in summer!). Friendly helpful owners. Nice soft surface to pitch.

Small quiet site at the edge of the village surrounded on 2 sides by woodland. Very welcome reception from owner and hens. Allowed to pitch anywhere as was not very busy. Basic facilities all clean and tidy. Strontian in Gaelic = Point of the Faries, how true. Ariundle forest (ancient oak forest) is a must and only 5mins up the road. Breakfast at the forestry commission visitors centre of bacon and local mushroom sandwiches a highlight. Well worth a visit if your in the area.
