Well, we returned this year again.
The main reason we returned is PorthCothan Beach - it's a narrow lane walk down, and steep uphill on way back - but it avoids a £5 Car Park charge and lets you relax without clock watching. And it's a quiet non-commercial beach with good surfing.
There is a very expensive shop as you enter the Beach - so, take a picnic down with you. Loos are in the Car Park.
Again the Toilets/Showers/Washing Facilities are woeful.
Friendly Owners, quiet site, excellent TV Reception for Digital TV, great farm for children, countryside views.
We will not be returning anytime soon as our children have flown the nest and thats the reason we visited here - many happy memories . Standing in a queue for the loo is not one of them (once you get in one, it's flooded with water, sand and mud anyway!)
If you have kids the positives outweigh the negatives.

Went back to this site after 3 years. Not much had changed. We had electric this year though as last time we had a problem with the freezer not freezing the ice packs and someone stole ours. Nice pitch, quiet site. Kids 10 & 8 loved the farm and didn't want to leave it, spending as much time as possible there. Farm has miniature train ride, pony rides, feeding the animals, trampolines etc all included in the price. Local beach uncrowded with convenient parking. Local shop OK with cliff walks near by. Convenient for Padstow to hire bikes, shopping, food, crab fishing, boat rides etc. Newquay for beaches shops etc. Only just over an hour from Lands End and Clovelly with some nice places such as Boscastle, Tintagel and St Ives on route. Had a great time in the surrounding area. Down side although not a reason not to go. (we went back) Really needs more showers and toilets, often queues. Showers were often full of sand and the floors flooded. Washing up water not always hot. Washing up outside. 1 sink under cover, 2 no shelter, not good if it's raining. This site was windy again. I suppose this is not surprising as you can see the wind farm on the hill. This is a bit annoying as it chills down as soon as the sun goes down.

This site was great as it has the farm next to it - our children loved playing there (ages 4 & 6). Great Location to explore lots of fantastic coves and beaches (Porthcothan can be walked, but very narrow and up hill on the way home!) Owners very helpful and friendly, cafe on site sells milk and will freeze your ice packs. Nice size pitches, quieter than most sites as the children tend to play in the farm until bed time (great!) Facilities only 6 showers (in need of updating) Gets VERY busy and dirty at high season. We had a great holiday and great weather Thank you

Unusual site this - a Tourist Attraction that has a Campsite alongside and campers can use the facilities (even after the attraction has closed, amazingly). We stayed for 10 nights and found the site quiet after about 11pm - important to us. This site would suit a young family - with children aged about 2-10years. The animals and facilities in the Attraction are freely available to Campers and a young family could spend a day there, petting the animals, riding the train, playing on the playground, having a lunch, bouncing on the trampolines, having a game of obstacle golf etc. However, and there always is a however . The toilet block (there is only one!) is too small in high season and has a number of design faults in my opinion:- 1. The toilets are actually full bathrooms, with shower, loo, handbasin, chair, mirrors, shelf . Very nice, BUT someone using the loo takes a handbasin and shower out of commission! Not good when a queue builds up readily! 2. The toilets, being in the same room as the shower and basin, could be unpleasant if someone had - well, you know - visited after a curry the night before! 3. The Bathrooms are infested with spiders, moths and flies . Doesn't worry me - but could freak you out?? 4. Bathroom ventilation is very poor - the whole room steams up after a shower (the doors need 3" removing from their tops to vent) 5. The showers, with the best will in the world, spray water all over the floor (it is VERY hard to avoid this) - therefore the whole bathroom is swimming in water after the first shower of the morning! We had one wet day and the floors of the bathrooms were a muddy, wet mess . Not nice at all. 6. The shower temperature cannot be altered, it's fixed - which, if you are sunburnt, results in screams from the bathrooms! Quite amusing if you are not the one getting the painful treatment. The above may appear petty - but, I can assure you, it isn't . I am a hardened camper so took it all in my stride, but I demand more from my £22 a night fee. This site could be a Top Site if the Toilet block was modernised and a gents loo added for those quick 5 second visits men can make (waiting for someone to finish a shower before you can have a pee is really annoying!). My conclusion would be to visit this site out-of-season. Accept that the toilets are below par and don't be afraid of creepy-crawlies!

We are a family of 4, mum, dad and 2 girls aged 6 and 4 years. We chose Old Macdonalds Farm at Porthcothan Bay for a 3 day break because included in the price of camping (£23 with hook up per night) is full and unlimited entry to the Farm. Every morning the girls helped John the farmer feed the animals which include goats, lambs, calves, pigs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, geese and ponies. The campsite is right next door to the farm so it was lovely to pop over to see the animals whenever we wanted. In the evening the girls also collected the eggs from the chickens, did more feeding and even watched John feed the owls. The girls also had unlimited pony rides and mini train rides. The camping field itself was clean and tidy, the showers and washing up areas were ok. I would recommend this site to those with small children but I think that the older one's wont get much from the farm. The beach is at the bottom of the hill - we didn't walk it as the road is quite narrow but I wouldn't worry as long as you take care. the area itself is lovely, we keep going back as the beaches are great and the area north of Newquay is largely unspoilt. Try crab fishing at padstow harbour (we became experts!) and the fish and chips at ST Merryn.

As never been to Cornwall before we thought we try old MacDonald's farm. As a family of four age 4 & 8 this site is excellent, the children love it - feeding the animals on a morning. The walk to the beach is good not a problem coming back up after a good day on beach. The beach is excellent and clean with lifeguards on. We have re-booked for August 2006 good time had by all

Lovely setting and excellent family facilities although no laundry.
However, the cleanliness of toilet and shower facilities was not good. Dirty, muddy water usually covered the combined toilet and shower blocks. The showers badly smelled and it was a case of selecting your shower very carefully. The toliets also had absolutely no soap provided and, considering this is a farm where petting is encouraged, I found this worrying. There was an 'after petting' uncovered sink outside available but again the dirtiness unfortunately prevailed.
We did experience some bad weather during our stay but, I have camped in worse conditions and the standards of cleanliness have been maintained even during peak season when sites are extremely busy.
However, cleanliness aside, the site itself is excellent for families wishing to totally get away and is not far from Porthcothan Beach. Although, the walk down to the beach with children at busy times can be a little harrowing due to traffic and no footpaths.

A favourite smallish site - a big field and good showers / loos and in summer a cafe with a petting farm and things for kids, but best of all, open all year and within a short steep walk to Porthcothan bay, lovely when the tide is out, with sea caves and mussels on the rocks. Trouble finding decent pub nearby though!

Decided on a week-long camping trip to N Cornwall approx 3 days after the Boscastle flood, so a little uncertain about what to expect. Kept dinghy next to tent in case of emergency! Luckily OM's Farm was great.
The site was ideally suited to families. Our two (aged 4 and 6) said it was the best site they had ever visited, as access to farm, pony and train rides were included in price (£18).Kids gave animals their breakfasts every day.
The toilet block was cleaned regularly and contained about 5 family shower rooms, 2 uncovered and 1 covered washing up areas. Water piping hot. Friendly owners and staff. Great location, walking distance from Porthcothan beach. We will return.
