Just got back from Montford Bridge. The Old Swan site was wonderful. From the warmth of the welcome to the warmth of the shower block we could not have found a better site. The children's play area was visible from the camping field and also conveniently next to the washing up area and the bar! The whole site was well maintained and the toilets and showers were very clean (with a nice hot radiator!). Being between 2 roads we were expecting to hear the traffic but it was more of a background noise. There is a shop nearby, over the bridge, but the traffic was daunting as no-one seems to stick to the 30mph limit. Shrewsbury is only a few miles down the road though and we managed to find everything we needed there. We will be going back to the Old Swan soon as it was a really restful and friendly site.

Just returned from this campsite disappointed. The purpose of the camping trip was to fish the opening night of the river season. Upon arriving The main camping field which has the river adjacent to it was closed off for anglers and campers due to a wedding taking place. We left with the impression we were classed as second class citizens "blots on the landscape"by the new owners. Why someone would want to buy a pub with a campsite on if they obviously don't like campers bewilders me. After using this campsite for many years would seriously think again before returning. Prices have shot up as well for no extra facilities. From £5 a night per tent to £8 per tent and an extra £1 per person per night for any more than 2 people in the tent

Just returned after a good weekend camping at Montford Bridge. Showers - Free, clean, but not exactly powerful !. Got me clean though. Camping is right next to the river Severn - take care with small kids. Taxis are cheap into/from Shrewsbury (£6-50 after midnight !). Pubs in Shrewsbury are good value, and it's a nice old town. Campsite pub serves nice food - good breakfasts for £5 but make sure to pre-book the evening before. Divided into Caravan field, and camping field. The road is quite noisy, and the streetlights shine all night, but it saves taking a torch !. Cheap and cheerful, and would definitely use again if in the area. (Oh and you can fish too - buy tickets at the site !)

The details on this page are slightly misleading as it states only 10 pitches - there are in actual fact 2 fields with more pitches than stated. We visited this site in May and had a very nice week there. There were a few complaints though as follows: The electric hookup kept blowing it was just impossible to use a heater on it although things like the kettle, toaster etc were fine. The washing up area is very difficult to use as it consists of a high metal worktop with a lip on it - it is very awkward - I recommend paper plates! The nearby roads are quite noisy also. The site apart from the problems mentioned above (2 of which could be solved easily) is very nice the pub serves nice food the owners were very friendly and there is a nice childrens play area. The prices for a pitch are also very reasonable.

been using this site for years for camping and fishing, great site for both. staff in pub are great too, always happy to help. Shop very close sells more or less everything. We will be using it again this year. Fishing was not great last year compared to recent years. This year could be one of the best, fished it on Saturday 11th march 06 last peg on stretch (concrete) had an eel to 9lb 4oz and a chubb of 8lb 4oz. I`ve thought for years that peg could break the uk record and one year I think it will. Had loads of silver fish as well. Cant wait for the start of the season.

This is quite a small site, close to the River Severn and popular with fishermen. The showers/toilets are clean but basic, the pub has good food and reasonable prices and I recommend the mixed grill. My only complaint about this site is the elsan point, or rather the lack of it, you empty your toilet into an uncovered hole in the ground, and with no water trap I can tell you the smell is quite appalling. The sooner this is addressed by the owners the better because it spoils a good little site.

This is a lovely little site situated at a pub/restaurant which serves delicious home cooked food. The location is ideal for exploring Shropshire and the playground is great for children up to the age of about 10. If fishing is your thing then you wont be disapointed, if its not then you will love just watching the world go by from this relaxing campisite.

June 2004 I have been using this campsite for 5/6 years, it was previously called the wingfield arms (but only used it for nightfishing for barbel EXCELLENT). Last year I decided to try camping, the main reason was to extend my fishing trips. The campsite is adjacent to the river severn, with free hot showers (basic but clean), toilets (basic but clean), excellent food at pub (reasonably priced), small adventure playground for small children, electrical hook ups available, nearby shop selling virtually everything. Very friendly campsite, went 5 times last year and will be going a lot more this year. Give it a go, cheap and cheerful!
