We have stayed at this campsite 4 or 5 times now and find it really nice place to stay! it is a working farm so there's lots of sheep and cows and you can often hear the farmer going over to the field opposite onohis quad (if in the front field). There is a few horses too!
The campsite has 3 sections the 'front' which is where the toilet block washing up block farmhouse is. The track runs through it from the road to the farm house so maybe not the best field if your camping with dogs or children unless over to the side. This field is quite slopey down one side but its fine if you can get into the corner bits!
Then there is quite a large field next to it with chemical toilet in it this field is flat and really nice to pitch on although you can get the noise from the traffic on a night but still not bad! Behind that is another field further away from the road which also has a chemical toilet in it but slopes a little.
We have stayed during a bank holiday last year and although it was fairly busy it wasn't overcrowded as some get and there was still plenty of room for a game of football etc!
The whole set up is pretty basic but its all clean and well maintained! and great value for money as we have only ever paid £5 per tent. We have been with friends and just on our own and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We did have some trouble with a group that seemed to want to kip in our tent with us as they had pitched practically on top of us, even with a whole field to choose from, but I guess we just park the van there next time!
Its right near the wall and there is a lovely pub just 15 minutes walk along the road which also serves a very nice Sunday lunch!
Were going back in 3 weeks and looking forward to it!

Just got back from a week away and stopped here again for a night same as previous excellent basic site £5 per person per night and 50p for the car. Doesn't take groups anymore because of previous trouble (some people spoil it for the rest of us). The site was the busiest ive seen it. Still great and would go again.

Visited this site three times and now love it and am going back in a couple of weeks, its your typical basic campsite, 1 toilet block near the farm house. The farmer is friendly. First and third time we stopped we were in the field in front of the farm house which was a nicely grassed field, the other time we stayed we were in the second field, the site wasnt too busy on any of the trips. It's a working farm so has the cows and sheep, it's a great location for walking the most scenic part of hadrians wall just a short brisk walk up the hill at the side of the farm yard to the wall. Is a little bit exposed to the elements being in the middle of nowhere, if the wind gets up you can definitely tell, my tent was a sorry sight the morning after some particularly strong winds :) but it doesnt stop me going back. Its pretty cheap too, only a few pounds a night

We visited this campsite twice in summer 2007. The first visit was in June. We found the facilities to be basic, but sufficient.
Toilet Block: Your bogstandard campsite toilet block. The mens and womens are next door to each other, next to the farmhouse. The floor obviously got wet from people's feet, but other than that, it was very clean, and didn't have very many bugs or insects. There are leaflets on a table as you walk in, for local attractions etc. There were mirrors, a hairdryer (free), a shower, and I think there was a baby changing table & mat.
Washing Up Facities: Just outside the toilet block there are two sinks with drainers. There is a roof covering them but it does leave you open to the elements. The sinks were clean, although the warm water pressure wasn't the best. There was also a bin next to the sinks for your waste scraps etc.
Bins: There were a few rubbish bins situated at the top of the field, on the way to the toilet blocks.
Fields: As far as I can tell, there were two fields to camp on. The first is as you drive in, so all that seperates you from the military road is a drystone wall. However, we camped right next to the wall both times, and you do hear cars passing, but its not so busy that it disturbs you or bothers you at all. The driveway runs up to the farmhouse through the first field, which is on a slope. Not too bad though, we managed to position our tent so that we were pretty much level.
The second field is over to the right of the first one, and I have to admit I didn't go over there. It looked okay but probably a bit of a hike to the toilet block.
The pegs went in the ground without problems, and the grass was in good condition. The toilets are only a minutes walk away, which is reasonable. There weren't any caravans on at all whilst we were there, so I don't know if they're allowed or not. I also didn't see any electric hookups.
All of the other campers had set up around the edges of the field, so the middle was free for kids to play, driving through etc. Quite a nice setup.
Atmosphere: It's really countrysidey, and you can walk for miles around there. You wake up to sheep baaing and cows mooing, which is lovely. Theres also a couple of horses in the field next door. It wasn't very busy the first weekend we went. The second was Aug Bank Hol, and it got quite a lot busier. We were annoyed that for two nights running, fellow campers were talking loudly, laughing loudly, etc outside late into the night. One was a group of youngsters, but the other was a group of 6 adults. That annoyed me, as we couldn't sleep, and there were also families with children on the site too. But it was the bank hol, so its bound to be busier than normal.
Local Attractions: You have Hadrians Wall to walk along, local visitors centres & national trust attractions, like Housesteads Fort etc. Lots to do and some nice walks. There's also a pub just along the road (2 min drive, 10 min walk) called Twice Brewed, which has picnic benches outside for dog owners etc. I'm told the food is good but it looked a bit pricey, so we just had drinks. There's not a lot at Bardon Mill. The nearest town worth a visit is Hexham.
Overall, a good site, and we'll be returning this summer.
