This is an excellent small site. The camping field is located very close to Loughrigg Tarn, and the views from the site look out to Loughrigg Fell. The field has many flat areas for pitching.
Tarn Foot is close to good walking areas such as the Langdale valley and the Fairfield and Coniston fells. There are also excellent pubs nearby, especially the Britannia in Elterwater.
The facilities are very basic, which might cause problems for people used to heated shower blocks and more luxurious sites. There is no hot water and the toilets are both outdoor - yet attached to the farmhouse.
The farmer and his family are friendly and the site is a very cheap option at only £3 per night.

This is a very basic campsite in what is essentially a farmer's field, but I love it! My boyfriend and I stay fairly regularly. The only facilities are 2 cobwebby toilets in converted stone lean to attached to the farm house and a cold tap over a deep sink nearby in the farm yard. (However, there is always toilet paper in the loos and soap by the sink) It is incredibly peaceful, the only sound at night are the sheep in the field opposite and through the day passing walkers (a popular footpath runs along the side of the site) and the chickens which wander all round the farmyard. It is only £3 pppn which you pay on arrival. No deadline for getting out in the morning. The grass is quite long and slopey, but as I said it is a field rather than a campsite as such. It is right next to Loughrigg Tarn, which unfortunately you can't see as it is behind a small rise backing the tents. It's a quick hop over though to a wonderful view over the tarn and with the Langdales in the background. There are no set pitches so you can pitch where you want. It is not a big square field packed with tents like some others, rather more of a lumpy triangle and it is never too busy. BBQs are fine. Down a short but very steep hill is the Skelwith hotel for food & drinks. Overall, I love this site for a 1 or 2 night stay, but any longer than that you really need a shower! (although the tarn is great to wash in in summer - bring the biodegradable bodywash!)

Have used this site for more than twenty years now. It's basic, but the site is great and the views can be spectacular, especially when watching the sunset with a mug of coffee (or something stronger). Going back there soon as Caroline hasn't been there - yet! As I said, it's basic, but it's good!
