Spent four nights over the Bank Holiday. A very pleasant Adult only CS with views over a buttercup meadow to rolling countryside. Site is conveniently situated for Ashbourne, Derby, Wirksworth, Belper and Matlock. Bus stop to Ashbourne, Derby & Belper just outside site, although services not that frequent.

Five narrow hard pitches in fan shape, plus some grass pitches for tents. Hook-ups are only 10 amp - so beware of over-loading. Could limit winter visits. £14 a night about right.

Village has one general store/post office/filling station, but Belper can provide anything not locally available. Two pubs in village - Black Horse is struggling and uninviting; Nags Head staff abrupt and had attitude problem. Had good meal at The Tiger at Turnditch - 2 miles to east of site on main road.

Site has portacabin (not new) with two loos and one shower (unisex). Lock on first loo does not work - caused embarrassment a couple of times. If someone is in shower, external water tap can be a problem. Kept clean and supplied though. Elsan point separate. Could do with a wash-up sink.

Tried local walking to Millington Green - next hamlet. Of six paths, all were either overgrown, obscured or obliterated. Visited Carsington Water - a bracing walk from the lower car park to the visitor centre. Enjoyed Wirksworth carnival; a small town that still shows a sense of community.

Definitely a site for a short break; will return. But does need some attention to details.

A very warm welcome greeted us on arrival. We had a choice of the 5 available hardstanding pitches.

The grass on the site was a little muddy but the owner provided some temporary matting to attempt to avoid the mud - but with a very excitable 14month old German Shepherd it was a lost cause.

Lovely walks from the site to Carsington across some of the muddiest fields I've seen for a long time.

Two clean toilets and an efficient, hot shower facilities were good. Two good pubs within walking distance.

All in all a good site - with some drier weather it would have been fab.

A gem of a site in a great location for touring the Peak District.

Hard standing pitch just the right size for Hattie our RV but I think we are almost about the limit (9. 60 metres) the pitch could accommodate. Manoeuvring on the site fairly easy but had all the pitches been full it could have been interesting.

Stunning views over the countryside and at £14. 00 a night including electric hook up great value.

Adequate facilities, nice warm and roomy shower.

All in all a very, very nice site with very welcoming owners.

We will return.

Just had a lovely weekend at Poplars Farm in our Pennine Pathfinder.

Nice site, friendly owners, incredible views - couldn't go wrong (despite Mother Natures best efforts).

£14 a night with EHU is great value and the facilities are basic (not as basic as some we've seen!) but fine.

Had a meal at the Black Horse Inn just up the road. Friendly place and they don't like to send you away hungry!

Ran into a few locals as we wandered around and they all made us feel welcome.

We'll definitely be back.

We have just had a brilliant bank holiday weekend at Poplars Farm. We had a choice of hard standing or grass pitch for our camper. Views were fab.

Nothing was too much trouble for Sara, the owner, with a gift of fresh eggs on arrival. We thought that the noise from the road would be intrusive, but it quietened down and we hardly noticed it once the bank holiday traffic had subsided.

Facilities are adequate and very clean. Plenty of walks directly from the campsite.

We will return.

We liked this site so much that we went back on our very next camping trip.

On the first trip we loved that crop circles or fairway type areas had been mown in the buttercup meadow to mark out pitches. Each pitch was an impressive size and distance from the next although there were only a handful of campers/caravanners anyway so was blissfully peaceful.

The view across the countryside was fantastic and the owners couldn't have been more welcoming.

This is one of those sites you would like to keep to yourself but the owners really deserve another good review. In our opinion, the site should stay small and quiet and those looking for exactly this will be back time and time again.

Part of me does want to write this review. Because I want to keep this site quiet - but that wouldn't be fair to the owners.

I love Poplar farm. It's simple basic camping at its best.

Stunning views. Quiet site. At £10 a night for a tent with EHU and the most delicious fresh eggs - its a bargain.

There is one shower which is massive and the cleanest I have experienced in a port-a-cabin, and two toilets plus an abundance of soft loo paper.

As the farm operates a wood cutting business, we had some logs in our BBQ after eating and watched the stunning sunset (in fact since finding it - we have been twice in one month. That's how good it is)

The only downside is I would love to camp here with the boys (but its what also makes it so blissfully peaceful)

There is a pub about half a mile away (Black Horse) - we investigated it in the car (thank god) rather than walk to it. It was locked when we got there. From peaking in the windows. It resembles pubs from the seventies. The type you were subjected to on coach-trips with OAP's in Norwich. You get the picture)

We drove to the Cross Keys. Its worth the extra distance. I had the scallops (divine) and the Fish and Chips. Him indoors had the beetroot and goats cheese terrine & the Burger - again excellent. Shame it's not next door!

The owner went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The site is new, but has everything you would need, EHU, toilet, water, CDP, hard standings, great views over the fields and a nice close location to Ashbourne. It is near the main road, but we honestly didn't notice excess or annoying noise. Good luck to the owners for their new venture, I'm sure it will do well and we would definitely visit again.

Just arrived home after spending a B/H weekend at Poplars Farm.

A relatively new CL Site, CCC members, adults only.

The owners admit they are still learning.

But they are off to a great start, nothing seems too much trouble.

We loved our weekend there, lovely views over the countryside. Close to Ashbourne and Dovedale.

A most welcoming couple, friendly and even a box of fresh eggs for breakfast.

Black horse pub Half mile away that does good food and ale, everything on the menu is available as a takeaway, they even do a 4 pint takeaway beer container.

This is a gem a a site. ok its basic no washing up facilities two loos and one shower. but it is set just outside Ashbourne looking over the Derbyshire Dales. The owners could not have been more welcoming, even gave us half a dozen eggs when we arrived. This is a new site but the future looks good, will definitely be returning. The site is easily missed if you approach from Belper, its on the A517 just outside but if you miss it a quick call and you are there. This is an adult only site so is very nice and quiet.
