I don't own a caravan but visited my brothers' several times during this year, they have a static caravan at this site. I was quite impressed, it's a lovely site, just a stroll into Brampton (a lovely little village, with plenty of shops and all the shopkeepers are very friendly. The grounds are kept beautifully and the toilet/shower block is very well kept, clean and plenty of hot water even in October when there aren't many tourists about. I would certainly recommend it to anyone and I intend to visit as often as I can this coming year. Even in the Autumn.

First the surrounding area. Nice little town with several pubs. Plenty of takeaways. Some nice walks in the area. Site did not rate as well. It does not have a proper warden now. Just arrive and find a pitch. Not many electric hook ups. Does take tents. Nearly all grass and it is flat. Toilets just about adequate as are the showers. Few taps scattered around the site. A guy who is not full time appears now and again and will take your money. Council yard over the back that can be noisy.

We stayed at Irthing Vale for just one night in September and to be honest, it would have been a trial to stay any longer. Upon arriving at the site we were greeted by the owner who seemed friendly. The campsite initially appeared to have an attractive appearance with well cut grass and some displays of flowers. The pitching ground for tents was fairly level and not a problem. Unfortunately we soon noticed a small number of rather derelict looking seasonal caravans sitting in under-growth. This done little for the site's appearance. The biggest let down to the site was the appalling state of the toilet and shower block. The toilets both smelt and looked as though they had not been cleaned for quite some time. The bins were unemptied and the floor was covered with loose toilet paper. When it rained, water poured through the roof and straight into the shower cubicles. The showers were equally unclean. I opted out of having a shower fearing that I would leave dirtier than when I entered. On the whole I gain the impression that the only care and maintenance to this site is the grass-cutting and flower displays. This site has potential but requires major investment is required to bring this site up to modern standards.

Visited during our walk of Hadrian's Wall. This is mainly a static motor home site, with a strip reserved for tents. There was plenty of space when we arrived on a Saturday (possibly because it had rained all day) but the ground was not waterlogged - good drainage I suppose. The owner was lovely - she did everything she could to make our stay pleasurable despite the awful weather and aching limbs! Toilet/shower block quite old fashioned but reasonably clean and well looked after in their old age. Perfectly good for the purpose. Washing and drying facilities available too although washing machine takes ages to do a wash - you have to be a bit proactive with it. Brampton is about a mile away and has loads of pubs and a couple of convenience stores. Would definitely go back, although it is 300 miles away from where I live, so perhaps not that soon.

We found the owner to very be pleasant and the location was central to the town whilst being located in a rural quiet setting. We were really disappointed with the cleanliness of the toilets. There is a childrens play area situated next to a paddock. I have a relaxed attitude towards my children in that I let them enjoy swings and such creatively and with minimal adult intervention. However I was slightly perturbed to see a broken swing and general all round neglect in an area surely governed by strict safety regulations. It is a quiet site with minimal numbers of caravans.Well spaced and enjoying well established gardens. I would recommend that you directly enquire about the charges as we found them significantly higher than advertised elsewhere.

Spent one night here at the site. On the plus side. There is no shop but the office keeps a few rations for sale and gas bottles. The nearby village around 1 mile away has a Fish and Chip shop, an Indian and Chinese takeaway and pub. The site had a great camping atmosphere which seems to normally lack nowadays. Dogs were allowed on free of charge. The lady that runs the site is just so nice and even lets you stay past 12pm departure time if site isn't full. There is a small laundry which also contains a microwave which you can use to heat up, or cook food. On the downside. The toilets, and 3 showers needed a good clean, although there was good quality loo rolls and plenty hot water. The EHU is only 5 amp so you can't use an electric kettle or fan heater. The lane leading to the site is extremely narrow with far too few passing points. In general. The Touring area is soft standing mixed with Tents, FC, Caravans and motorhomes which I think created the good fun atmoshere. Plenty space between EHU points.

August 2004 We stayed here at Bank Holiday for one night. We have got a motorhome and we arrived in the dark - the owner put us on this piece of grass which was long and really wet - consequently we were stuck the next day but these really helpful campers gave us a push!
The roads on this site are really narrow and difficult to negotiate - there is a shop and the toilets are fine.
