Just spent a fantastic weekend at this site with my 3 year old an she hasnt stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen. This was only our second time camping so was a little worried things might not go very well or id forget something so stayed local.
Glad I picked this site as the staff were very friendly and helpful, my friend decided to join us here on the friday and as a first time camper he got a little worried after his son had been out of sight for an hour or so, we found a member of staff (site manager I think) who drove round the site with my friend until he found his son. We were very grateful for this.
I spoke to a few people who have caravans on the site and they couldn't have been more friendly or helpful with information, one even showed me where her caravan was an said if I needed anything to knock on her door and she would help me out, as a newbie I hadnt realised just how friendly campers could be and thought perhaps site regulars may have been a bit stand-offish, defo not the case here.
The site is very large with one main shower block which was always clean and fully stocked with soap and loo roll, there is also a smaller block just beside reception which I'm told is new and wasn't as busy as the main one. Dish wash room had around 8 sinks so no queuing to washup and also a freezer for iceblocks which was very handy, site also has a small laundry room which means next time I can pack less clothes for the little one.
The playpark on site was great for my 3 year old, she was there most of the day, slept soundly every night ( slept later in the morning than she does at home ).
As it was jubilee weekend there was entertainment on in the marque, I didn't go along but sounded like they were having a lot of fun in there and the singing didn't stop me from having a good nights sleep. There is a fantastic little pub just outside the site, we ate here every night as I have to pack light due to camping by public transport, meals were not expensive and plentiful for us, and playpark and softplay to keep kids entertained whilst waiting for there meals. The only downside to the site for me is the fact there is no shop on site, the closest being a very expensive garage a 15min walk away from the site. A shop for us poor campers who cant bring all our supplies with us would be great.
The only bad point I had with this site was the camper who brought there dog along with them and thought it was ok to allow the dog out around the park on its own, barking at people as they come out of there tents at night (scared my daughter to the point of tears), I did mention this to a member of staff ( park manager again I think) who said he would look out for the dog the following night. Didn't hear the dog that night.
So all in all as a new camper I was very happy with this site and will be going back again very soon.

I am only 10 but I loved it especially because there were horses, plus the park was just absolutely fabulous. The tyre swing, I was never off it.
I enjoyed it. it is very clean and tidy and has a lovely shower block and garden. I met lots of friends it was also very quiet too (that was the good thing)
The only thing that scared me was in the garden, there was a lot of ponds and the big one was very deep but my sister was playing tripped over her shoe and fell in face first and now I am scared of water.
But also the people there were very friendly and helpful.

Found the touring end of the site very disorganised and the tents so close together. The touring field had a rally going on, this was not a problem.
There were quite a few younger people with tents and there cars blasted out loud music all night into the small hours of the morning, not amused.
During the day children were being driven round on the campsite tractor and trailer used for rubbish collections, is this the norm or even allowed I asked myself.
Dogs in abundance with lots roaming free with their owners, dog dirt on our pitch and the two pitches either side of us.
Toilets closed for three hours and the ladies had a fire with the hairdryer.
Not impressed, will not be coming again.

We did not explore facilities on or off site as we were only there for one night. The toilet/shower block was warm and clean with plenty of hot water.
We were given clear instructions where to park by very pleasant staff. Not much room between units and rows which caused problems when cars could not park beside caravans with awnings and were on the road making it difficult to manoeuvre into place and we have a small unit.
Husband liked the breakfast bacon roll from the burgher bar which was open at the weekend. Given voucher with discount for next visit.
Key deposit £20.

I have stayed here a number of time. I have had two long weekends, a two week holiday and a one nighter.
The two weeker. Was supposed to be a three nighter then tour Wales. We enjoyed it so much we stayed :-). We just moved the tent a couple of times around the huge camping field.
One weekend, pure bliss and quiet. Second one very noisy as there was a caravan club turned up and basically took over with a huge tent in the middle for a disco that all the caravanners attended.
One nighter, we turned up to find a dog club had over half the field. We were given a small wet pitch. We complained and was given money back plus a discount at the sister site. Can't remember its name, its nearer Southport. Do not go there. There is more on site there, club etc and its much bigger but chav city. Three fights we saw.
Even though this sound terrible I would recommend this site.
Its clean, the staff are helpful, the showers are to die for, there stuff for the kids, there's plenty of paces to get without to much hassle via a car, a good pub over the road. Just make sure when you book that that don't have a massive event on.

Stayed 2 nights for £9 per night. Reception was helpful and friendly and pitch was easy to find.
Nice level site and well spaced. Not much on site for us but a play area for children-a shop and some basic caravan spares would be useful.
We did not use the toilet/shower block but had a look and they were clean and warm. Across the road is a nice pub which does meals at 2 for the price 1. 1/2 mile away is a petrol station with a well stocked shop.
It's not great for dog walking as they have to be kept on a lead-ours prefers to be able to run freely but there were hens wandering about.
Had a nice relaxing weekend but would only stay again at £9 per night

We went as a group of 10 caravans for a winter break in January, it is a lovely site with an excellent toilet & shower block with heating and music playing. Nice play area for the children and large playing field.
Pitches are flat and level, mostly hard standing for caravan with grass for awning. Good access for caravans with barrier access.
Nice walk into Croston village. Train station 5 mins away.
Nice pub across the road from the site.

Just come back from a short weekend here, quite a large site with lots of space and facilities for children (not that we had any with us). A lot of the site is seasonal pitches. Good facilities, nice hot showers although they could do with a bit of a face lift.
The little village of Croston was lovely with very nice pubs, we had Sunday lunch in The Grapes and would definitely recommend it. £12. 50 for 3 courses, excellent choice of food, high quality service and lovely surroundings, restaurant standard.
15 minute drive to Southport which has been revamped in the last few years and is lovely.
Unfortunately no one around to refund my key deposit when we left but we were a little late, hopefully we can sort by phone.

After years of visiting Haven sites we decided that as a family we would give camping a try as oppose to static caravanning. We searched the internet for a suitable, local campsite, and settled on the Royal Umpire, and we were not disappointed in our choice. On arrival, we received a really warm welcome and very clear information regarding all the facilities available. The only bad part was realising that there was no shop on site and that the nearest shop was a garage way up the main road that took my son and I about 20 mins to walk to.
It was very pleasing to be told that there was no designated pitch for us and that we could choose our own. The pitches were not marked out and basically once you found your chosen spot, room was not an issue and there was plenty of it.
We found the toilet and shower facilities very clean and well maintained, and the children's playground was excellent but very busy and well used and as a lot of children don't like to share, my daughter was upset that she rarely got a chance to use the equipment.
To sum up, this site served to encouraged us to carry on camping. It was well run, by very friendly, helpful staff and we were so impressed that we returned the fortnight after for another enjoyable weekend.

Our stay here was great
Toilet and Showers need key to enter these where cleaned to a very high standard never out of soap, toilet roll etc. Well lit during the night for those in need.
Washing up area also cleaned to a very high standard also had a freezer for ice blocks for those that need them.
The kids enjoyed the park although due to rain was rather muddy.
Site was very quiet at night time (once all kids left the park area). Only ever heard music once from nearby caravan but only till 10. 30 (no noise policy after 10. 30)
Over an excellent site and we will return.
