Stayed here with my 3 children in our tent midweek. Good location. Field is large and we could pitch anywhere which was nice, the main problem is the wind here, there is no shelter from the wind unless you can get in a small area behind the hotel sheltered by trees which was full when we got there, as there are fields next to the site so the wind comes directly across them all and across the tent field, we thought our tent was going to blow away it was that bad and we came home early because of it, even a few hedges and trees would make a difference here.
The showers and toilets were nice, always clean, the showers had a separate dry area in each one so you have somewhere to put your clothes and to get dressed (unlike their sister site riverside) this is also good when showering children they have somewhere to wait, although after a few pushes of the shower button they do get too hot. We had to pay £20 deposit for the toilet/shower key and front barrier card, we couldn't work out though why the showers/toilets need to be locked all the time anyway as its only guests on the site using it. There is also a separate disabled bathroom but you have to pay an extra £5 deposit for the key for this.
The kids park is really good, it has lots of great play equipment but is very very muddy, even when it didn't rain, ive had to bin all my 5 year olds clothes from camping here as they are all ruined with mud stains from the kids park, and she had wellies on too.
There is a very good petrol station with Londis shop 20 minutes walk away (or 5 mins in car, left out of site) that sells everything you could need, but a small shop on site would have been handy for basic/fresh items. Pub across the road does meals and has a wacky warehouse which got rid of an hour for us one day although its unlimited play time for £2. 50. There is also a garden centre left out of site 10 mins walk with a restaurant too. There is supposed to be an ice cream van, it came one day we were there, the other days we waited and it didn't come, other people have mentioned a burger van but we didn't see that either. Good site and good location, we would stay here again but when it isnt windy at all and sunny to dry up the park.

Visited this site for 2 nights and found to be very busy. There are 2 sets of toilet and shower blocks, both very clean. The main block next to the large camping field gets used by most people and so does get dirty quite quickly after being cleaned.
Very friendly staff on entering and throughout stay.
Playground is excellent, but muddy in places. (mainly around the tyre swing)
There is a burger van on site which gives good value food. Downside is it opens and shuts at odd times. No on site shop, would be useful. There is a shop 1/2 mile away at the petrol station, which is well stocked, especially with wine.
Some nice pubs close by, especially Rose and Crown.
Pub across road is a 2 for 1 type, reasonably priced with Wacky warehouse for the kids.
We left early Sunday am, before the reception opened, cleaner was available to return our key deposit.
All in all, a nice site that we will return to.

We have just returned from a LONG weekend at this site and here are our observations:
Having spent a week camping in Scotland, we were looking for a stop over in the North West Thursday - Sunday/Monday to visit some family before heading home to the West Midlands, we rang one campsite that had no space and were given the phone number for this site, I asked a famiy member to check the reviews online for this site before booking and all seemed to be fine. We arrived around 6. 30pm on Thursday and pitched our tent quickly before the rain came. We then went to the 2 for 1 pub across the road for some dinner (very nice pub and very cheap) I was surprised to see some of the campers from the site changing and washing in the toilets of the pub but thought nothing more of it until I returned to the site to prepare for bed where I was met with dirty facilities sinks. The next morning was no better so we drove to Wigan and showered at my Mums. When we returned the campsite had transformed into a music festival and there were literally hundreds of people there drinking. I was kept awake until 3am and I need to stress that the clientele of this site on this occasion was undesirable. I am far from posh and have been known to swear and drink myself but this was no place for a family who put their children before beer. The children could not play far from the tent as with so many strangers around it would be irresponsible.
We were joined on Saturday by family members who were unable to pitch as with the amount of rain and traffic the field was being subjected to it was completely water logged and a mud bath, which happens, But the site refused them a refund despite the fact that the site had failed to tell us about the 'festival' when we booked. They gave us a voucher for another visit, which will go unused. The staff seemed friendly enough but their only comment was we can't help the weather! When our complaint was the lack of communication and unsuitable facilities.
There is a park on site for the children but it was too busy and there was too little space for ball games.
Needless to say we packed up and went home, the final straw being that we hadnt managed to get into the ladies shower block ALL DAY due to the number of people in there. I was assured by the staff that this weekend happens once a year, but I wont be giving the site a second chance as we arrived on a very quiet Thursday evening and the facilities were unbearable, given the fact I had just used portaloos in Scotland for a week I don't think my standards are too high.
The surrounding area is beautiful and the site is handy for a number of attractions. Shops, pharmacy, restaurants, pubs all within walking distance.
I just want to stress how cross it made me that they refused to refund my family the cost of their stay when the site was unsuitable for their needs.

Enjoyed 2 night stopover within close proximity to Camelot Theme Park which was the main reason for our stay.
The site has a barrier gate which is operated by fob key. There is a £20. 00 deposit for this and a key for shower / block inclusive. Shower / Toilet block very well maintained and clean. Showers are perfect temperature. Hairdryers are available at 20p but sockets are available for your own equipment.
There was a burger van located on site but I preferred the 2 minute walk across the road to the local pub, half plate portions, soft play, playground all available. Reasonably priced
Back at the campsite, my son made full use of play equipment, and there is a large playing field for ball games.
Check out was by 12 noon which suited me as I could leisurely pack away tent!

We picked this place as our first ever camping trip for me and my girlfriend, I have to say I loved every second of my stay here.
Toilets and showers where perfect and clean, the ground where we pitched was perfect and the grass was well cut.
We met some nice people there and we will be going back in 2 weeks to stay again and we cant wait
Price was fair, pub over the road was 2 for 1 which is handy for us
The children there were not at all disruptive and just relaxed on the park all day. I honestly cant say a bad thing about this place.

Have just spent the weekend there and this is what we thought.
Overall the campsite is great and ideal for families. There's a great playground and lots of field space for them to play ball games. Ours had a great time. They even had a Man City Summer Soccer School on the Saturday morning which my son absolutely loved (additional cost for this but not much).
There's somewhere to buy full breakfast or bacon barms etc and they also do jacket potatoes and various other foods all cooked fresh to order. Had the breakfast which was great on the last day and friends had the burgers and chips on the first night and they said they were nice.
Toilet and shower block kept clean and there's portacabins on the fields with extra toilets which were clean and kept well stocked of toilet paper although the paper towels ran out quickly. There's good washing up facilities although the water was a lot hotter in the evening.
The only downfall was that on the Saturday night the site allowed a group of what can only be described as 'louts' on the site and they pitched in close vicinity to us - they were campers from hell. They were vulgar mouthed and shouted obscenities and played very loud music until well into the early hours. Considering the site has a no noise policy after 10.30pm it was annoying that they were allowed to continue to stay on the site and were only told to be quiet by the warden at 2am long after most campers had tried to go to bed and there were a lot with children like ourselves.
We would probably return but would more than likely be if we couldn't get in anywhere else.

Excellent, a campsite I am definitely returning too.
Was a pleasure to camp with a massive field where you can pitch almost anywhere.
There was a football pitch for my son to shoot goals and a good sized playpark within view of pitched tent!
Toilet block nearby very clean and in good condition, Showers lovely and hairdryers on site (20p) for 20 mins. There are plugs for your own styling equipment etc.
A deposit of £20 for swipe key for security gate and tiolet block was needed and check out was late at 12 noon which meant no rush to pack everything away and no early mornings bonus!
A pub with grub was found within 2 minutes walk of campsite, good food with half portion sizes of the big main meals which were ideal for a growing boy. Within the pub there is a soft play area, now I never paid anyting for the use but am unsure if this is the case for through the day! There is also an outdoor playpark!
We were within a 10 minute drive of Camelot Theme Park which was the main reason for camping here!
Very happy with the service provided by the friendly staff at this campsite.

Stayed here for two nights after not being able to get in our first choice site. Wasn't disappointed!
June special is just £10 per pitch per night (4 people plus car)
The camping field is a very large open space, no marked pitches so you can pitch where you like, although the centre of the field is reserved for the many activities that take place during the day (football coaching, cricket matches between the kids etc). There's a play park for the kids and a very burger van on site.
The toilet blocks were very clean, although the showers were a little too hot for our kids and they aren't adjustable. You pay a £20 deposit for the toilet key, plus a card that operates the barrier to get in and out of the site. We had to leave early on Sunday (8. 40) but the reception didn't open until 9 and the warden wouldn't come and let us check out early, so we had to return later that day to get our deposit back. Worth noting this if you plan to check out early one morning and haven't made previous arrangements with them.
No pub or shop on site, but there is a pub just 2 mins walk that does two for one deals all day every day.
We will more than likely be using this site again

Great place and we have visited this site lots of times. A play area keeps the kids entertained and if the weather is kind there is plenty of space in the field to have fun and play games including large scale water fights!
The facilities are good, clean and plentiful and the staff on arrival are friendly and welcoming.
Lots of activities throughout the year including sports days, football competitions & talent contests so make sure you go there with a view to join in and have fun.
If the weather is not so good then a Wacky Warehouse is a two minute walk away as an alternative to sheltering in your tent for hours on end plus Southport with its attractions and funfair is a short drive away too.

We stayed here for two nights in May2011 with our tourer to visit the Southport Food Festival. The site has an entry barrier operated by a key card a £20 deposit required for this and toilet block key refunded on departure. There are a large number of long-term residents we don't mind this as it usually makes for a quieter site and better looked after facilities. The toilet block is immaculate, hot showers, fully stocked with toilet roll etc and with a coin operated hair dryer 20p gave 20mins of drying. There is no site shop but the nearby village would provide for all your needs and larger supermarkets are available in nearby Southport. There are also several excellent farm shops nearby. We visited on a Thursday and Friday and found the site very quiet in spite of being busy. We will use this site again when next in the area
