Stayed at this wonderful site for 3 nights after only intending to stay 1! We have a large Motorhome and 2 young children. The site is situated in the woodland and the kids loved exploring and collecting sticks. No need for a playground here! It's a natural playground. The site is only 5-10 minutes into aviemore and equally convenient for Loch Morlich and the Cainrgorms. It is also almost opposite (5 minute walk) from a Hilton hotel which welcomes non residents. Although the food (or service!) in the Bistro wasn't fantastic, the kids loved the evening cabaret!

We visited the Caingorms and recommend taking the train up the mountain. Also took a boat out on Loch Morlich just up the road and visited the local theme park (more of a wooded adventure park), Landmark, which is about 15-20 minutes drive through aviemore.

If for any reason you unfortunately need a doctor, I would recommend the surgery in aviemore. They saw my daughter immediately and we came out with a prescription!

Fantastic area, lovely site, lots to do for families and will hopefully return one day as we didn't have time to do everything we wanted (steam train etc).

Only negative about the site is that the toilet block is quite a long walk (particularly with little ones). We had a pitch near the entrance and the old toilet block has now been closed (due to complaints about the decor!) but it really needs renovating and opening up again to make this site a 10/10!

We were lucky enough to get a pitch on this site over the last weekend in September - with stunning Scottish autumn weather. We were towards the road up to the woodland area -halfway between the toilet blocks - as we knew the new block was up in the tent area, we never actually used the older one. The new one is great, individual bathrooms just like home - would think it could be busy in that block at peak times. The bathrooms were spotless - included dishwash area - water in sinks is v hot and you were warned - but also would suggest you step back a little as the pressure of the valve meant water bouncing off base of sink and all over you !

The location of the site is excellent and while it lacks the remoteness of Glenmore, the forestry commission Site up the road, it makes up for that with its convenient proximity to Aviemore and is a quieter site. The site is actually on the trail up to the Larighru pass - the trail can be cycled with hybrid or mountain bike up to the lodge and on to loch morlich or loch an eillan - or down into aviemore all off road till the town - excellent family friendly cycling in all directions - a great effort has been put in the area for accessible paths and they were building a new one suitable for electric w'chairs up at Glenmore forest. Also Glenmore is one the forests with charging points for e bikes - and these are available to hire in Aviemore -I wouldn't hesitate to do that if my pedal power gave out -just to get on these wonderful mountain paths with fabulous views

We ate at the druie at Rothiemurchas visitors centre - we had to cycle the trail in the dark with bike lights as it's a few miles away - but it was worth it for the excellent dinner - we didn't eat in the nearer Coylumbridge as have eaten there before and not been impressed - for family eating try the Italian at the road end as you come into Aviemore. The site was peaceful - although quite full, it's by the road which is quite busy -but you don't have to go far to lose the road noise and it didn't deter red squirrels from visiting the trees beside our pitch

An electric token operates barrier at night and washroom entrance -10quid refund deposit The wardens were friendly and helpful - they were just leaving for the season. Would certainly go back -site open in dec -but it's very popular - need to book and snow (and some has already fallen ) can make some pitches unavailable

A popular site that we managed to get booked for a long weekend after having tried unsuccessfully previously. The front area of the site is more open-plan but we were pitched in amongst the trees, roughly in the middle of the site. The site also has a stream running along one side and smaller tents can be pitched on a small island.

The facilities are pretty basic, with just the two wash blocks and a small reception. We used the wash block to the rear of the site which was much nicer and more modern (I'd be slightly concerned about how busy this would get though if it's true that the older wash block has been closed). There's no kids playground but it wasn't really needed as our 6-yr old had a ball playing amongst the trees and watching out for the squirrels. One 2014 review suggests EHU is only available on the pitches at the front of the site but when we were there at least some of the pitches amongst the trees had EHU too.

The main benefit of this site though is it's location. Not too far out of Aviemore but surrounded with paths and tracks that give days of convenient walking or cycling without having to jump in the car. A walk from the site around Loch an Eilein is especially recommended.

Aviemore has the usual selection of shops, a supermarket and restaurants. Aesthetically not my favorite town in Scotland but the location makes up for the towns shortfallings.

Well what can I say! This was our 1st nights stay of a week long trip to Scotland. After finding the site, we went straight to reception and booked in with no problems at all. Don't just turn up as you are likely to be disappointed - its a very popular site, and I can see why! The setting is fantastic for the tent pitches. We managed to get next to the stream which separates the island from the rest of the site. The only problem that I found with this area was that the ground is extremely hard and resulted in quite a few bent pegs. The facilities are the best you will find on any campsite. The toilet/shower blocks are amazing. You get your own little room which is accessed by electronic card. Loads of hot water and a great area for dish washing etc. The site was full when we went, but there was plenty of space so the tents were not too close together. I cannot wait to get back next year!

We enjoyed our time here but agree with everyone about the front toilets been well past their sell by date. Site setting, wardens etc lovely and we had Red Squirrels outside our van. We cycled into Aviemore on the evenings with our dog and found two dog friendly pubs (Old Bridge Inn and Winking Owl). The first is posher but the second is fine and we were surprised by the great food we had in there. There is also a bus that stops outside that takes you to Aviemore.

I would also definitely recommend a visit to Inshriach Nursery it has a lovely coffee shop with large windows with loads of bird feeders just outside that are covered in all sorts of birds and red squirrels.

Just returned from a weekend at Rothiemurchus site.

Had one of the top pitches right next to entrance/exit. Obviously lots of coming and going so not a quiet pitch, headlights shining directly on the van windows at night when cars have to stop at barrier and use card for access to site.

This site is all about location and have stayed several times in caravans and tents over the years but first time so close to entrance.

The CDP was out of order but a temporary one was fixed up right next to where you get your drinking water on the top pitches?

The next nearest water tap was being used by a motorhome on a mains connection.

I agree with comments on the top set of toilets, way past their sell by date.

The main block at the bottom of the site is much better and have always used these on our visits.

Unfortunately there was no hot water on the morning of our last day. So no shower.

Will I return. Probably but in a tent, £24. 50 per night for 2 adults in a caravan with hookup taking into account the above.

Our third stop touring Scotland ( family of 4 with children aged 10 and 7 yrs)

A beautiful location and I've fell in love with aviemore.

A nice site well located to easily pick up the cycle paths direct into aviemore and the visitor centre. Slightly disappointed it wasn't as tranquil as expected due to road noise on what is really a 'b' road but very busy day and eve.

The site seems to be split into 'top' pitches which was where we were and then woodland pitches. Personally I prefer the top pitch but the toilet block there is old and whilst spotlessly clean really needs knocking down. I understand there are planned improvements for the site over the next 12 months so hopefully should address this. Woodland shower/ loos were fine but perhaps needed extra clean during the day as the mop to clean showers was dirtier than the mess you have made ( on both occasions used)

That said we had a great time, loved the area and the site and would definitely return.

Ps; the highland wildlife park was great and certainly worth a visit !

Travelled down from Findochty, got there about 2pm had a lovely welcome from the wardens.

Smashing pitch in the woods, TV signal poor but l was able to get mobile signal.

The new toilet block is good with toilet, handbasin and shower in one room, lovely for privacy. The older toilet block was poor and that's from hubby, needing up dating and cobwebby and appeared grubby, I glad I did not go in it.

But if you want a site in lovely wooded surrounding with streams running through it then this is the site for you,

A trip on the Strathspey railway is a must.

Excellent site, lovely clean shower toilet block. Good site for exploring, lots of walks, funicular railway, RSPB site, all with in easy distance. Close to Aviemore for shops and places to eat. Lovely pub called bridge inn serving real ale and fresh cooked food. Their chocolate fondant was best I have ever tasted. The site was in a lovely setting, well organized and well laid out. Planning to visit again and will recommend to friends.

Enjoyed our stay here very much. Felt like a camper's Centreparcs - with lots of cycle / walking paths available to try.

Short distance to the Rothiemurchus centre - lovely shop and cafe there.

Lots to see and do within a few miles- enjoyed a trip up Cairngorm funicular -you can get out and walk to the summit.

Loch Garten Osprey centre and Loch An Eilein also worth a look.

Friendly wardens. The shower block was a bit of a walk -nearer for tenters, but loved the fact you have loo, basin and shower in the same room. Everything very clean.

Would recommend.
