The village (Ynyslas) is a quite group of houses about a mile from the beautiful Ynyslas beach and nature reserve - great for bird watching. Borth beach is just a few hundred yards away and the borth bog is immediately behind the site.
Borth is a rather run down, but does have a couple of reasonable pubs and a nice cafe.
As for the site itself, the general gist of the comments made by other reviews was born out by our experience. The loos were not regularly inspected, there were broken fittings, some graffiti, the shower curtains were torn, the shower pressure was very poor and the tap water pressure MUCH too high.
The general state of the facilities for campers was decidedly mediocre. The shop was there (the best thing one could say about it). It had pitifully little on sale and was only open until 4.00pm.
This is by no means the worst site I have ever stayed on. My experience was not bad, it just wasn't as good as I had hoped.

Well I have just got back from a week at Swn Y Mor, family of one adult, two older teengers and young teenager.
Good points - close to local towns, Borth being the nearest could walk to it via path next to the beach but approx 1 mile 1/2 away. Information centre supermarket in Borth just on mini roundabout best and cheapest, does have the one and only cash point at the side of the building however does charge to use. Most shops give cash back though. Bar on site does too.
Clubhouse and bar not too bad, I found it to be very quiet a few families, probably best for family with younger children wanting a more quiet holiday. Entertainment on every night varies really some good some not. Arcade attached which was good for all ages. Bar has lounge area with Sky TV and comfy couches, pool table and serves decent food from 7pm-9pm (does say 10pm on door). Beer prices not too bad either quite reasonable for campsite. Snooker table available for adults £5 deposit at bar and a £1 per 20mins for lights. Friendly staff behind the bar.
Indoor pool is nice situated at side of reception in new build cottages. Has a jacuzzi and sauna, however pool only 1 metre deep. £5 deposit for key from reception.
Launderette - £2 for washers and 50p for dryer, iron also available
Scenery - really nice on clear day
Bus service just outside camp No 4 takes you to local towns
Lovely beach across the road and golf course, wildlife reserve down the road
Bad points:
Tent site - flat pitches, quite open though all around does get windy. Fields adjoining all have animals in them (noisy ones at that). Felt a bit like I was a smoker and banished to the naughty field. Play park right on the tent field, noisy in the morning and sometimes late at night (older kids). However I suppose this would be a plus for parents will small children as you can see them from your tent.
Outdoor pool - only good for little children, came up to knees of a girl aged about 6. Loungers to be desired (a little worse for wear)
Toilets and showers - a little old and dirty, but adequate. However they are really far from the tent site, which you would expect to be close as static caravans situated right next door, if I am not mistaken they all have toilets and showers.
Washing facilities - always dirty and plugs full of everyone's dinner yuk!
Train line runs on both ends of the site, you have to go over a crossing to get into the camp and there is one going past the tent site, a little noisy.
Shop what shop! stocks only a very small amount of things in reception shuts at 5pm every day. Lots of convenience stores down the road though in Borth, turn left out of the site.

Kids decided they wanted to try camping, we normally use the caravan. I thought it would be good for them to experience it, though I didn't want to depart from the comforts of the caravan.
Had just got them wet suits etc and wanted to have an experience by the sea, living in derby its about as middle as you can get.
Booked here after getting kitted out, was a little dubious after looking at some negative reviews, rang them a couple of times for reassurance.
Its a fair distance to travel and it was just after nine on friday when we arrived.
Soon got booked in and pitched tent. Yes the ground is a bit marshy, but its not muddy, its weird, when people walked past the tent you could feel the ground move, its like a huge marsh mat maybe floating.
Ok, most of the negative reviews in here are about the other people staying here, not the site and management, the field cannot be changed and it ends up as bad as people, that's us, leave it.
Toilet paper in the toilets etc, yes I experienced it, that's down to us parents, surely it cant be adults. By the sunday morning there was paper on every toilet floor I went in.
The indoor pool complex is fab it really is one of the best I have been in, and part of your fee, no extra.
Decent sized pool, toddlers pool which is very warm and a hot tub with Jacuzzi and a sauna, all free. On a rainy sat afternoon this was a god send.
Sat night we went in the club but there is entertainment most night, there was a singer impressionist and he was very good, but must say the staff did a brill job entertaining the kids from 7-9.30pm.
So little can be criticised about the staff on this site, I am afraid it is generally the state in which we leave it, it is impossible to expect someone to follow people around, even picking up toilet paper, unless we and our kids have more respect for places we visit we are going to end up finding cubicles in the mess they were sometimes.
I would recommend anyone to go here, its right next to a great beach and a good place to explore from.
The weather wasn't perfect, but after we left the site sunday we spent a couple of hours on the beach, the kids got to try the wet suits and boards and then we travelled home, so all in all a good hectic weekend.

Yet another enjoyable stay at this campsite. We arrived on the Monday to be shown directly to where we could camp. Site was relatively busy but still plenty of room to camp.
The Tuesday arrived with a heavy downpour during the night and into the morning, we woke with a puddle but we found this amusing, what do you expect if it's heavy rain. There were some campers who failed to notice the quiet rule after 2200 hours but the site and facilities were really good
The only criticism we had was that we couldn't get an evening meal on the one evening as they weren't sure what time the chef was due, but that didn't put a dampners on the holiday.
Site was lovely and clean, facilities of washing and drying were excellent, the toilets and showers were great, a little untidy but that is due to people not respecting the facilities. The staff were always polite and helpful, we are already looking at sorting out dates for later this year, yes it's expensive but it is worth the cost as you feel you have a holiday experience.

I am thinking hard for something positive to say about this site. Still thinking, oh yes, the view up the valley is nice!
We arrived on the Friday evening. The lady in reception tried to be helpful but to be honest, she did not know much about what was where etc. We finally found the camping field and it quickly became evident that it is just a fenced off, mowed area of the surrounding marsh land. It is flat in places but mostly bumpy, very soft and spongy. Normal metal tent pegs struggled to hold.
When we booked we were told that there were no hook-ups available for tents, but there were spare ones all week we were there.
The site was busy and it seems they try and squash as many tourers and campers in as possible. Many of the tourers seem to be permanently pitched. There is no land drainage whatsoever on the camping field, with the money they must make I am sure they could improve this.
The toilet/shower block is about 2-3 mins walk from the camping field. The facilities were fairly modern but unfortunately were untidy, dirty and not nice at all. There was a permanent covering of used toilet paper on the floor, the single hand drier was smashed on about the 2nd day of our stay and was not repaired by the time we left 4 days later. The handbasins were too high for the children to reach (no steps provided) and the cold water spurted out of the taps at such force we got soaked evey time we tried to wash our hands! The showers were free but very hot and lasted about 15 seconds a push! There was no temperature control and this was a real problem when trying to shower the children (5 & 7yrs).
On one occasion the cubicle doors had all been locked from the outside with just one available to use. I reported this to reception and in fairness they attended to it straightaway. The office said it was likely the kids as during the half term holiday they end up replacing most of the equipment due to vandalism. Need I say any more?
We did not even bother trying out the on-site bar and club house. On one occasion we used the toilet facilities in the club house and they again were dirty and smelly.
The children's play area consists of 2 slides, 2 junior swings and 1 baby swing and these are mostly occupied by young teenagers. The outdoor paddling pool is pleasant but freezing and it closes at 5pm.
We asked at reception if there were facilities to store freezer blocks - the young lady behind the counter looked at my husband and asked 'what is a freezer block!'
Our pitch was near the play area and dog walking area. It was very sad to see dog owners not bothering to pick up the mess their dogs had made.
We love going to Borth/Ynyslas to do kite buggying. Borth itself does not have much to offer but it does have a small supermarket at the far end of the town which is normally open til 8pm, a couple of chip shops and usual beach toys/gift shops.
We would not return to Swn Y Mor, even if they offered us a free holiday, a real shame because the site could be so much better for campers with a little money, time and effort made.
Come on Sunbourne (group who own site) get your act together.

We stayed here for only 3 nights and too be honest when we woke on the first morning and my husband went to the shop, to find it was only two shelves in the reception area which consisted of beans and washing up liquid we were not happy. The camping field was like a marsh there had been rain but there was no drainage it was just a field. We were at the bottom of the site and just left to find every thing out for ourselves, we have two young children and the toilets were in the middle of the static vans about 5 mins walk from the camping field the ladies toilets were at the back of the block along a path that was not that well lit so I felt insecure to go on my own in the middle of the night. Also they were not warm enough to have a shower in and I was not going to let my children get cold having one.
We were unable to experience the campsite bar as it was shut or closed to the campers due to a ' welcome back party' for the static caravan owners.
We were able to use the pool for 1 hour on the first day, it was a fantastic pool and we were on our own in there, it was lovely and warm and we were able to have a shower. However the next day when the weather was not great and because we were so impressed by the pool we thought we would spend sometime in there as the children enjoyed it, but we found out that it was closed.
All in all we had a pleasant stay, we did not spend anytime on site as there was nothing to do and the near by town of Borth was only a few shops, so if your looking for a campsite with more I would go somewhere else. The campsite was a reasonable price so I suppose you get what you pay for.
It states on the web site free wifi, when we asked about this, it was not free to tourers only to the static caravans, and the price for us was quite high being £2 for only half an hour.

My only regret being that I booked and paid on line before reading the reviews! Decided to go and try it out because I had paid for 3 nights. We left promptly after just one, willing to sacrifice our payment as refunds are not given to campers.
The site is basically a static and touring caravan site with a little marshy area in a far corner of the site where they stick campers. It is actually better described as the play area!
When we arrived to pitch the field was scattered with debris, such as broken gazebos, carrier bags etc. Most of the field was a muddy churned up mess, even though the warden said the weather had been kind. The camping field houses the play area with swings ect, very good if you have children, as we do. Not quite so good when youngsters hang around on it late at night and mill around your tent and give you a sense of insecurity.
The toilet block is more for the convenience of the touring caravan brigade and is quite a walk from the camping field, although it is clean and well equipped.
Facilities on the site are quite good with an arcade, swimming pool which charges about £2 extra per swim, clubhouse which although very nice inside is a little expensive and the cabaret left a lot to be desired on the one night we visited.
If you want to be close to the beach this may suit you. However be warned Borth consists of a convenience store, chip shop and little else.

I read the reviews that were written on this site before we travelled to Borth. I was pleasantly surprised from what the bad review said to the view that greeted me. Diana at the reception couldn't have been any more helpful, pleasant and cheerful. Looking at the other people that were on the site they all looked happy to be there. The camping field was adequate for what you expect to find when camping, yes it was marshy in parts but that is to be expected due to the weather we have experienced. The site is well managed and there is always plenty to do. The walk to the beach is 5 - 10 minutes walk away. The facilities were always clean, apart from one evening when the ladies toilets, which are a very quick walk from the camping field, were untidy due to toilet paper being everywhere, but you cannot blame the staff for other people being disrespectful.
I will definitely book again, as this is one campsite I have felt like I have had a holiday experience, Thank you to Diana and her team.

I wish I had paid attention to Tim Wilson's review!
On arriving at the site we were impressed with the overall location (quite near the sea), the site was obviously well maintained. As we travelled through the site past the static caravans and tourers, all appeared well. On arrival at the 'camping field' we found it was a very different story. The field was actually marshy ground and was absolutely soaking! Cars were being towed out as we arrived. A neighbouring camper advised us that days earlier, there were puddles so big that there were ducks swimming on them! While you cannot predict the weather and rain is generally inevitable in this country, this field had no drainage and seems to be actual marsh land.
The only toilet/shower block was a 5 min walk from the camping field, actually situated among the static vans. Not so good in the middle of the night in the dark!
The showers were frequently cold in the mornings and water pressure was so low that a trickle of water was all it could muster.
The children's play area is also situated in the camping field, which is convenient if you have little ones as I do. However, you clearly cannot have your cake and eat it as at night it is very noisy with older kids / teenagers hanging around. The site actually has a rule that between 10pm and 8am it should be quiet. This is not adhered to however, and I guess it won't be if they have no way of enforcing this rule.

I would thoroughly recommend this site as a base for exploring the area. Why exploring? Well nobody would want to hang around the site unless of course they were looking for wall to wall noise, no proper dish washing facilities, poor showers, no toilet paper, hand dryers not working and the overpowering clientèle at the bar. If this was the standard of all sites I`d turn the caravan into a chicken coop tomorrow. To all intents and purposes its a static site with a field / swamp at the rear where they charge you £21.50 a night. Choose your site more wisely. GRIM
