Cracking site. Just what you would expect from Caravan Club site really.
You are only a few minute walk from a huge stunning white sandy beach.
Facilities are excellent, clean and all in working order.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Pitches are a good size.
Can really recommend this site if you are up North visiting and want to stay in a lovely scenic area which is only about 20 miles from John O'Groats.

Wow! Okay its an awful long way to travel to the far north of Scotland but what a lovely site this is. Small and quiet despite the major John O Groats to Thurso road running beside it.
Friendly staff, dog friendly and the most wonderful beach anywhere in the British Iles. You can walk for miles along it with wonderful views and just have the whole beach to yourself. Firm sand too.
For a relaxing holiday this has to be as good as anywhere.
Ive given it 8 out of 10 but that's because of being practical with it being so far north. Best site to our way of thinking North of Inverness.

Travelling from the south coast, we booked Dunnet Bay and were glad we did as it was pretty full when we arrived. We booked in and found a corner pitch with a good view of the beach and settled into three days of exploring the area. The site is not huge but has plenty of water points with power to each pitch of course and the facilities are absolutely fine.
We toured quite a bit up there and the highlights included a drive down to Cape Wrath (too windy to get over on the day), the Castle of Mey which is superb with guided tours and Dunnet Head - actually the most northerly part of the British Mainland. Oh yes, and John O'Groats. Well you just have to chalk it up - a bit like Lands End - and we did actually get a decent cup of coffee there! We also stopped at the Castle Arms in Mey for a great breakfast one morning and had a really nice evening meal there the following day. It's about 5 mins from the site and worth a look.
There is Tesco in Thurso and Wick (better) for supplies and smaller Co-Ops scattered around the area. It's certainly wild up there but we loved it and would recommend the area and Dunnet Bay. From here, we caught the ferry at Gills Bay to the Orkneys - very convenient!

Arrived here mid afternoon. Nice place and told to set up on a pitch and report to office later. 27ft just fits the pitches.
Power available straight away.
Superb beach on which we walked at great length.
Facilities clean and well maintained.
Reasonably priced also.
Northern Sands Hotel within 800 yards if you want a nice pint or some food.
Good facilities for grey water. Fresh water freely available.
Recommended.

A very well maintained site right on the edge of Dunnet Bay beach, a long clean sandy beach ideal for children. The toilets and showers are luxurious and heated, the only minor problem being remembering the 6 digit entry code!
Pitches are well marked if a little close together, and mainly level grass making the use of awnings easier. The tent area is, however, quite small and whilst we were there, being used by campervans.
On the whole a very good site for a family, if a little regimented ('vans must by exactly central on the front and back markers') and we could happily have stayed longer than the 2 nights our schedule allowed.

Site - very open with the road along one side and the dunes on the other, as you turn in off the road you come into a public carpark for the visitor centre, then turn into the campsite. Ground a bit up and down, but you can find a flat bit if you look hard enough, you can also find a pitch with sea views. Road noise was not intrusive. Gates are locked from 8 - 8. Pitches are marked front and rear. Shop and takeaways a couple of miles away in the village, fish and chips weren't great.
Castle of Mey - good half day out, entry into castle is by guided tour only, but small groups and we had an excellent guide who had worked for the QM. Not very large inside and very interesting.
John O'Groats - A couple words - Don't go.
Having said that everyone does. Appalling place, not even the furthest north, so what is its claim to fame? Even worse than Lands End. 11am mid week, tourist information closed, toilets closed, hideous hotel thing, painted red and black like a house of horrors, boarded up, steps down to the harbour blocked by a rusty trailer, not even tacky, just horrible.
Wardens - pleasant and helpful.
Dog Walk - magnificent, straight out of gate on site onto sand dunes and down to the sea. Tide goes out quite a way leaving a nice hard flat surface. Also interesting things get washed up, like a dead seal, unfortunately it had been dead for about 6 months, perfect rolling territory for labs.
Washroom - nice building and always clean, standard size fixed shower, temperature can be adjusted but was a bit temperamental

A gem of a site. Stunning location, great facilities and very friendly and helpful wardens.
Location just over the sand dunes from a beautiful bay.
Warm and very clean facilities, a credit to the warden.
Basic provisions available in shop eg bread, milk bacon, eggs etc.
Do also try a walk in the forestry commission land across the road, very interactive sculpture etc etc.
Would definitely return, but for longer next time.

Arrived at this site just before 'Hurricane Katia' advised by wardens to park in direction of forecast gale. Stayed here for 3 nights, gales never came!
My partner is disabled and uses a wheelchair but the amenities on this site are immaculate and disabled shower etc much to her liking!
Fantastic views, beautiful beach and very helpful, friendly wardens. We visited Dunnet Head, Castle of Mey and John of Groats, won't go there again!
Thurso useful for supermarkets and fuel, but Tesco at Wick is the best bet. Overall well worth visit and we will be back next year

To Find Site:- From Thurso take A836 signed for John O’Groats. About 2 miles past Castletown towards Dunnet the site is on the left and can be seen from the road.
This site has a lovely location on the low cliffs overlooking Dunnet Bay on the north coast of Scotland. Non-members and tent campers are accepted. It’s not a particularly large site with only 57 pitches all of which are on grass. The ground is quite up and down so some form of levelling will be required on most pitches. There is a strict pitching regime with front and rear pitch markers! The site has a very nice quality toilet block and there are a couple of service points in easy reach of most pitches. There is also a motorhome service point near the site entrance. The A836 runs along one site of the site but we did not find traffic noise intrusive. Reception sells a variety of essentials. There are no play facilities on site for children but with a lovely sandy beach a stone’s throw from the site I doubt they will be bothered! Obviously, given its location, the site is quite exposed should the wind come up so this should be taken into account when erecting awnings and canopies. There is no campsite WiFi but I was able to get a GPRS signal on my Vodafone dongle albeit quite slow.
For excursions Thurso is about 8 miles from the site where there are shopping opportunities as well as several fuel stations. Scrabster on the edge of Thurso is a ferry departure point for the Orkneys. Dunnet Head and Lighthouse is a short drive from the site, make sure you climb up to the higher view point as you have a lovely 360 degrees view from there. John O’Groats is about 15 miles from the site and it is from here that you can take the passenger ferry over to the Orkneys. There are good car parks near the harbour. The car ferry leaves from Gills Bay which is nearby. Also on the same road is the Castle of Mey which used to be the Queen Mother’s home until she died. It is now run by a Trust and is open to visitors. Wick, about 28 miles along the coast road has a large Tesco and cheaper fuel.

Lovely location right on the wide, sandy, clean beach with views across the bay. Great facilities, good pitches although not hardstanding but on a sandy site any rain drained away quickly as we found out when the storms hit us.
The site is very exposed and the wardens were warning people to remove awnings due to the severe gales.
We drove to John O Groats but were very disappointed, although thinking about it Lands End is prety much the same.
Watch out for cyclists starting / ending as they seem to be everywhere with little consideration for others.
We would visit Thurso again to have more of a look round.
