Great site. Even though the site was busy it still felt as if it was not overcrowded. Due to the torrential rain of the previous week some of the pitches were unusable but when we left they were draining well and are probably now back in use. The toilet blocks are kept spotlessly clean as is the camp site itself. The Holiday Managers and their deputies are very helpful and friendly. We have been to this site before and as it is just about an hour away from home, will be visiting again as my five year old grandson loves it. Great dog walks in the woods directly behind the site.

We spent three days here. The staff were really friendly - always waving as you went passed. The site is next to a main road although we didn't here too much noise. The site is in the woods and some of the pitches are under the trees so are very dark and never get the sun. The other problem is that there is a lot of bits on the floor (dead pine tree, tiny twigs etc). These get trodden into the tent/ caravan and you cannot stop it. It rained when we were there and when damp it went everywhere!
The facilities are really not adequate for the size of the site and with only one block some people had quite a long walk to the loo! In the morning the queue for the showers was just a joke and with so many people using the loos they were quite smelly. The other irritating thing is that they were closed for cleaning for an hour just when you had to leave the site so if you had a long journey you couldn't go to the loo first.
In the evening the play area was so busy we felt that it was quite dangerous. The shop was non existent. In reception there were two boxes of single serving Frosties - that appeared to be it. There was the biggest Tescos ever at Inverness which was great.
Sorry but I wouldn't stay here again as it was too crowded for the facilities.

This is probably the worst campsite outside France I have ever stayed at! First problem is the road. At 16 GBP per night I would expect more peace and quiet. We were there on a Saturday and it really is noisy! The cars are flying by on the way to Nairn. Second the showers/facilities. They are clean and fully functional and more than big enough. Just for some reason they decide to clean them during lunch. I needed a shower after a morning trip to Inverness and couldn't even get in for a wee! Why couldn't they wait until the mid/late-afternoon when no-one needs them?! Why shut the whole block? And why clean all of them at once? Lastly the staff were just downright rude. We arrived later than we had planned and for various reasons not been able to "radio ahead". We arrived just prior to lock down on the Friday (after a very long drive) and received a full dressing down. I don't mind them kindly expressing their dissatisfaction, but I think they do need to be prepared for late arrivals and above all remember who the customer is!

This site is set in Delnies Wood, a mature pine wood on the outskirts of Nairn and 12 miles east of Inverness. There are walks from the site direct into the woods, including a waymarked walk to the beach (a couple of miles or so.) If you are lucky and observant, you’ll also see red squirrels in the trees by the site. There are 75 pitches at present, none hardstanding, and some of those backing onto the forest seemed to get very wet and boggy after rain with the ground holding the water – tenters need to be alert to this, and also to the fact that tree roots and flints/rocks about 6 inches down make guying difficult – I had to use rock pegs for my awning, but although they were needed to get through the stone they also tended to pull out too easily in the soft peaty ground. The site is adjacent to the busy A96 road, and also a quarry/industrial unit, both giving rise to some noise at night but nothing particularly intrusive while we were there. The immediate area has plenty to see and do, with the Moray Firth towns and villages to explore, and the inland delights of the Spey valley and the mountains of the Cairngorms, all within easy motoring distance. Nairn itself has good shopping facilities and excellent beaches, and the nearby Culben Forest which runs along the coast from Nairn’s East beach to Findhorn Bay, some 8 miles away, has many paths and cycle ways for walkers and cyclists and is a unique environment of sand dunes (some over 90 feet high!), pine trees and heather. For those wanting to go further afield, the West coast is well within a day trip as is John O’Groats and the far North (easy 4 hour drive). Sadly the site’s facilities were a bit of a disappointment as they fall well short of the Club’s usual high standard. The toilets and showers were kept clean enough by the site manager and his wife, but are situated in a run-down prefabricated-type hut with no heating. There are no privacy cubicles for washing etc. In either male or female facilities, and the shower cubicles are small and cramped. There is no “family” shower or parent-and-child provision, and no facilities for the disabled - I doubt if a wheelchair user would be able to use these facilites at all. There is a small childrens play area and a recreation room, and a laundry room situated in a separate wooden hut – for which you need tokens (£2 wash, 50p dry) obtained from Reception, if you can catch it open – the Reception hours were a strict 9-10.30 am and 4-5 pm. Arrivals outside those hours have to track down the site manager on site or in his cabin. Reception also sometimes has a small quantity of milk and eggs on sale, but I wouldn’t rely on it! Nearest shop is in Nairn, also nearest pub – 2 miles. Despite the basic nature of the facilities we enjoyed our stay at Delnies Wood and would go back, but it wouldn’t suit everyone and might not be the best choice with children.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Delnies Wood. Clean and good facilities and friendly. However, I note the other reviewers do not mention the A96, main route from Inverness to Aberdeen, which runs very close to this site. A lot of lorries and heavy traffic, even through the night. We did contemplate moving on but the kids had made friends and they soon got used to the noise and slept through it okay. A further pain was that the male and female toilet block closed for one and a half hours, at the same time, to be cleaned. Still mangaged to have a good holiday.

August 2004 Have just returned from a week at Delnies Wood and had a great time. The site was ideal for the family, but also seemed popular with couples. Toilets, showers and washing up area were very clean and the rest of the site was very tidy. The children's play area was great for our 3 and 5 year old, but older kids also seemed to enjoy it. There is also plenty of room to play football, fly kites etc in a grassy area at the entrance to the site.
The site was well managed and quiet between 11pm and about 8am. The shop is small and only open for an hour and a half in the morning and evening, but Nairn is only 3 miles away and Inverness about 12.

August 2003 A pleasant campsite just outside nairn in pine woods (which you'll notice more when the wind gets up - and if you are there more than 1 night, it will!) handy for visiting many local attractions. Seems popular with the one or two nights touring brigade with their motorhomes, thankfully I found it short on screaming childern which is always a winner. The only dissapointment were the facilities - not the usual camping and caravan club standard, but clean nonetheless. If you're going to visit I would reccomend August when you can visit the Highland Games in Nairn-you won't be dissapointed.

This is a newly acquired site for the C&CC. It was originally Delnies Wood Caravan Site.
The site is 2.5 west of Nairn on the south side of the A96. It is set in a sheltered pine wood just of the main road (not too noisy) in approx. 3.5 acres of well-used fairly level ground. At present about 75-80 pitches are in use (nearly all caravan pitches with mains hook-up). There are some static vans on site but these are being removed to extend the site to about 150 pitches. The work is due to start at the end of the season and will be well under way for next year. The showers and toilets are clean but have not yet been upgraded to the high C&CC standard. The site has a recreation room with a pool table in it and its dog walk is about 2.5 miles of pine woods at the back of the site. The site is ideal for visiting Nairn itself. The area is full of history with Fort George, Cawdor Castle (the setting for the Shakespeare's Scottish Play), Clava Cairns, Kilravock Castle and, of course, Culloden are all well within an hour's drive. Loch Ness is just about an hour away (at least the northern end).
For an extended day trip Ullapool, Skye and the Hebrides (at a pinch) are reachable. Somewhat easier to get to are the Moray Firth (with its dolphins), the Whiskey Trail, Speyside, the Cairngorms Royal Deeside and Aberdeen. We managed to reach John o'Groats in less than 3 hours in spite of some sea mist on the road. There is a ferry to Orkney from there as well. The area has plenty to offer the tourist and is well worth a visit.
