Well what pretty views and a quiet location, with nice flat pitches.
Two showers in total for circa 45-50 people is simply not good enough, had the site been to capacity it would have been a farce.
We had Three showers without hot water, at varied times over Three days and heard many complaints about this. This is very poor.
The walk to Ludlow it should be advertised that it's a hard one coming back up, thankfully were fit and without a pushchair or disablement otherwise we would have to have found a Taxi.
Other than the comments above the site is acceptable but why no others have advised about the above I know not, it will most certainly stop us (and the others of the cold shower club) returning.
The site needs
1 more showers, all with hot water
2 a grey water waste point
3 advertising clearly stating the walk from town is hard.
4 the electric fence around the site should be made safer, our dog whilst on a lead got zapped so a child easily could.
I hope these comments are taken in a positive manner to benefit others.

Management response: In response to your review I would like to address the following points:
SHOWERS: Our website clearly states we provide two showers. These showers are fed by an immersion heater which is on 24/7 from the start of the season until we close mid September. During certain times of the day there will be more demand on the facilities and therefore the temperature will vary. However if you showered at different times of the day and still had cold water it is more than likely the shower control was turned to cold? Had this issue been brought to our attention we would have been able to advise you on the positioning of the temperature control as all complaints regarding cold water this season have been rectified once the handle was turned correctly. If we are not made aware of a problem with cold showers whilst you're on site it's hard for us to rectify.
GREY WASTE: a grey waste point is provided at the top of the drive near to the chemical disposal point. Again as we live on site a quick word would have rectified your concerns.
ELECTRIC FENCE: This is clearly marked with the required warning notices.
WALK FROM TOWN: Our advertising clearly states we overlook Ludlow, therefore being above the town it will inevitably require a walk back up the hill. Photos in the gallery also show the town below the camp site. Whether a person finds the walk hard will differ greatly between individuals. Surely it's nice to have a choice of being able to walk on marked paths in an area of outstanding natural beauty or take the easy walk down and perhaps take a taxi back? As nothing is compulsory the option and choice being the individuals. |

Firstly and positively, this site is very picturesque with superb views over Ludlow. In those terms it is quite beautiful and one of the best we've been to.
As a middle aged person (albeit reasonably fit) of 51, I found the walk in and return from Ludlow to be no problem at all. It's an easy 20 minute walk down and a slightly more challenging 25/30 minute walk on return. Describing it as a 10 minute walk is being a little economical with the truth unless you happen to be superhuman!
There are now 10 clear pitches on the long and steeply inclined field. 3 toilets (one unisex and two single sex) plus two showers are clearly inadequate for the numbers and potential numbers that could be involved and were definitely inadequate. A long wait for shower or toilet is fairly certain. The unisex toilet is dark, dingy and in need of refurbishment. The single sex toilets are immediately adjacent to the singular shower for each sex and although they are clean, they could not really be described as offering any privacy, with large gaps at both the lower part and upper part of the doors. It should also be noted that if you are sited at the bottom part of the field, they are a long and steep walk upwards.
The water and waste disposal facilities are also at the top of the field, this means that you need to be fairly strong to pull a full waste water container up to empty it and equally strong in attempting to not allow a full container of fresh water to hurtle you down on filling!
The waste disposal facilities leave a lot to be desired. Through the wooden door, you are then faced with lifting an inspection cover which, lies over the main sewer from the house. It is dirty, smelly and unpleasant. It is similar for the chemical disposal.
I found the £3 per adult charge for late departure a little high, when considering that most sites charge £5 flat for a late departure. I was also not impressed when on welcome I was informed in an unpleasant manner, that our EHU would be cut off at 5. 00pm! Having said that we were given an extension lead for the EHU because being at the bottom of the field it was a very long way to the EHU! Swings and roundabouts.
The site has a beautiful setting but in terms of value for money and for facilities, it is not good value.
There are no shop facilities on site. The nearest are in Ludlow.
There are no facilities for children.
If you have any mobility difficulties then this site is not for you.
Towing is reasonable but the entrance/exit is difficult in terms of signposting and in getting a clear view of the road and oncoming traffic.
One last thing, do not rely upon the hand drawn map from the web site for directions. It is not accurate and can lead to difficulties if towing.

Management response: In response to your review I would like to address the following points:
WALK INTO LUDLOW: We have never advertised the walk as 10 minutes, but are unable to control what others may write in their reviews.
FACILITIES: Our website and brochures clearly state we are a quiet farm site and what facilities are provided. I disagree the unisex toilet is dark, dingy and in need of refurbishment... the walls are painted in buttermilk (light cream) with a quarry tile floor and a window for light and ventilation. All communal areas are painted before the start of each season. With reference to the other toilets; the doors are of a similar design to standard cubicles, but made with wood to keep the authentic farm site feel. Yes there is a gap at the bottom of exactly 6 inches, so unless someone was actually lying on the floor or alternatively over 6'4" tall and stood on tiptoe there is no way of looking in. However I find your comment strange that you feel it's a long hard walk to the showers from the bottom of the camping field but the walk from Ludlow easy? The location of all facilities is due to the nature and terrain of our property, as being a farm we are not connected with mains sewage and drainage.
LATE DEPARTURE: Late departure is charged @ £2.00 over 16yrs and 50p 5-15yrs, plus £1.00 for level pitches using EHU. We never turn off EHU facilities and would only advise if leaving later than 5pm a full nights camping fee would be payable.
SEASONAL SITE: As we are a small seasonal site, we feel that a charge of £13.00 for two adults on a level pitch with EHU is reasonable. Our facilities are basic, but cleaned regularly throughout the day and are inclusive of the camping fee. We caravan ourselves and have been faced with a minimum nightly charge of £24.00 this season at sites of a similar nature. We do not have a shop on site as being only 1 mile from Ludlow this provides campers with ample choice to suit all pockets and palates and is more cost effective.
We clearly state our facilities on our brochures/website and hope campers make an informed choice. |

Amazing site!
Enjoyed a long weekend on this amazing site and hope to return soon. Perfectly placed for Ludlow which is a pleasant 10min walk away. Also excellent for walking or mountain biking in the Mortimer Forest which is adjacent. The pitches are very spacious and most have been levelled out of a fairly steep slope (not sure I would want to be on one of the sloping pitches but this can be agreed when booking). There is also plenty free space in the middle of the field.
There are only 3 toilets and 2 showers which are basic but perfectly clean and adequate, also the drinking water tap is a bit of a walk from the bottom of the field. Apart from that I really can't fault this site.

This campsite was family and pet friendly. We had a beautiful view from our tent. Did not have any problems with facilities, maybe more toilets and showers would be useful, but I never actually had to queue. Only con was that the field is down the hill in most places. Otherwise the owners were very friendly, there was also possibility of booking a horse riding lesson. I liked the location right above Ludlow. The prices were reasonable. It is also a lovely area for walks.

We picked this site as it is ideal for walking to Ludlow town centre. It has lovely views of castle and surrounding countryside. The site is perched on a hill with level pitches for caravans camper vans and tents. Electric on field water on farm up hill. Showers and toilets kept clean on farm. As site is on hill a one way system is in force so if you have to fill up for more water in a large motor home this could be a pain. Fill up before you park up. Could not find chemical disposal point ? no motorhome drain point either. Phones ok

Stayed for 2 nights on this site.
We asked for a pitch near the top end of the site which was levelled (well worth paying a bit extra for) and its not too far from the loos as well. As the site was fairly quiet and the weather was pleasant, we sat outside the van and enjoyed the wonderful views of Ludlow which were definitely the best asset of this site.
I found the owner to be quite friendly and although the facilities were not amazing, they were perfectly adequate and included a washing up area which was undercover.
The walks through the woods into Ludlow were downhill and took us about 25 minutes or so.
Ludlow itself is an amazing town, full of history, market days, castle, river and a good fish and chip shop.
Energy needed for the walk uphill back to the site!
Priced about right for the facilities, but not suitable for those who have difficulty walking on hilly terrain.

We had a lovely stay at Whitcliffe - aided by glorious sunshine which made the view from our pitch absolutely idyllic. Take your binoculars!
A friendly welcome; clean, functioning facilities with plenty of hot water and well-kept pitches make this a site we would definitely return to.
This site is right on The Mortimer Trail which stretches from Ludlow to Kington, and is perfectly placed if you're into walking, horseriding (on site) or cycling, as well as gourmet eating and drinking. We strolled down into Ludlow on forest paths for a fantastic meal and walked back in the sunset. The climb back up to the site justifies your pudding!

A lovely campsite!
We pitched on the slope as all the flat pitches had been taken, it is not much of a gradient and still quite suitable for camping in a tent. The facilities were clean, although only 2 showers and toilets. The beauty of this campsite is it will never get too over crowded, even though there were a number of families there there was plenty of space and we were not falling over other campers by any means. The view from the campsite is nothing short of stunning and a treat to wake to (or drink a beer in the evening to!). Overall a friendly site which is also very reasonably priced. We shall be returning again and again throughout the summer! With regard to local facilities, I would suggest they really are a drive away, although not very far. Ludlow is well served by supermarkets (Aldi & Tesco) along with other smaller more quaint shops, there are some lovely pubs in the town which are well worth a visit. Being on the doorstep to the Shorpshire Hills means that you are never short of something to do if you enjoy walking! Highly recommended and we look forward to returning!

A beautiful site. The view is to die for, and the site facilities were basic but very clean and everything you could want. Even from the bottom of the sloping camping field the washblock is only a very short walk away, and there are horses too, which only adds to the charm. A very reasonably priced site, which I will definitely revisit. Useful for seeing Ludlow as the town is a short walk away through beautiful woods and a riverside walk.

A good site, walking distance from Ludlow and with direct access into the Mortimer Forest for mountain biking/trail running/walks.
The level (grass) pitches have been carved out of the sloping field: the non-level ones are on quite a slope! Not sure what the site would be like in the wet.
The facilities are clean and well maintained, but with only a single shower/toilet for each sex and an additional unisex toilet. It wasn't too bad when we were there, but I imagine there could be queues during busy periods.
Dog friendly (on lead, as there are a lot of cats about) and in a great location!
