All the very positive reviews are correct. This is a very friendly, rural and spotlessly clean site in the middle of London. They sweep even the streets.
Although I was 3 of the 5 days on my own, I've never felt unsafe. Access to London is very easy with a Day Travel Card. If you buy this at the station you can get a discount off the price for the big London attractions such as The London Eye, Dungeon and for theatres, restaurants, boats etc. (see: 2FOR1LONDON on the internet). This can save you a lot of money! You can go to London by train, every 10 min.,or by the Dockland Light Railway (change in Woolwich Arsenal or Greenwich).

I live local to this site and camp here every year during the school holidays with my sons and some other family members.
Firstly I must agree that it is an oasis in the middle of the London hustle bustle!
The grounds are clean and well kept and the staff are always working to keep it that way. The location makes it easy to get into London and also cheap.
I have not missed a year and think that my kids will be bringing their own kids, long after I have hung up my tent pegs for good!
This has got to be the best campsite in London (better than Crystal Palace, you will not be disappointed.
Staff very friendly and always willing to help.

We stayed at Abbey Wood Caravan Club for three nights for a base to see the sights of London.
We booked online and on arrival were given the choice where to pitch. Most of the pitches are hard standing and very level with a grassy area for tents. There is a small play area for young children and several toilet/shower blocks with hanging area for drying washing. The toilet & showers were spotless at all times.
The site is set in lovely grounds, hard to imagine its in the middle of a residental area! and 5 minutes walk from Abbey Road Train station. We purchased train tickets in to central London which took about 35 minutes and cost £6.20 for adults and £1 weekends £2 week days for children. These were day tickets for all journeys on buses, trains & underground.
The site is secured with a barrier which you have a code to access. Outer gates are locked at 10pm but you also have a code to access the foot gate (cars would have to be left in secure carpark overnight)
Overall an ideal base for sightseeing in London, Spotlessly clean, we are already planning our return visit.

Well all I can say is all the other reviews are right, this is a real shock, you drive in through built up areas (do follow the route plan given, as there is a lot of narrow streets) and then turn in to the site that looks like it belongs in the country.
There is a bit of street and plane noise (and I really am being picky) but you are in London.
The site is very clean and well maintained and is perfect for getting into the city via Abbey Wood rail link.
I would recommend the Day Rail Pass (£6.20) it gets you on all train, tube and bus routes also if you have an iphone get the london transport app (red bus on it) it was a god send to get all the transport links.
There is nothing really to do on or outside the site on an evening and the area does look a bit rough, there is a little play area for children but not a lot for my teenage sons and it does advertise WiFi but I could not get a signal and we where about 50ft from the reception and at £5 for the first hour it was a bit pricey (there were better rate for a week but we were there for a couple of days)
Overall great site and great location.
I would recommend to anyone who is looking at going to the capital sight seeing.

This is a brilliant site!
Their own website doesn't do them justice.
They went out of their way to help us out.
The site is literally 10mins walk (downhill) to the train station and this is what makes it special.
On the way to the station you walk through some nice local shops and take-outs. It is worth noting their opening hours. On the other side of the station it has a small supermarket with good opening hours.
The USP of this site is the proximity to the station. From this station you have London. All of it. One weekly ticket for adults is dirt cheap and gets you use of the tube and bus services. Children over a certain age just buy a day ticket for a pound!
The site is clean, well appointed and incredibly quiet. There is Wi-Fi if you want it too.
Oh and if you go in the autumn there are chestnut trees there and freshly cooked chestnuts straight off the tree are fantastic!
All the facilities were warm and incredibly clean. There is a great family washroom and a small play park.
We will definitely be staying here again as it is just the perfect base to go visit the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and so forth.
The kids loved this place so much they renamed it Happy Wood!

A fantatic campsite, I wholeheartedly agree with all the previous positive reviews.
The camping area, in the middle of the site is ideal, ample electric Hookup points are available for tents too.
At the train station, you can get the all day £6.20 (I think that was the price) train tube and bus card. Last train back to the site from the centre of London was midnight. The train journey in was only 30 mins maximum.
One day we stopped off at Greenwich, on the way into london, walked the short distance from the train station to the river, near the Cutty Sark. And got a boat into the centre. Prices varied a lot at the different kiosks so ask them all. Plus we got a discount by showing our rail ticket, Only cost us £3 each for the one way river trip to the London eye.
If you get back to the Abbey Wood train Stn late on, all the shops will be closed on the high street, But the co-op mentioned in previous reviews is open late.
Overall a great site.

We stayed for two nights in August, the site was fully booked. We were a little concerned that the site would be heaving, the toilet block overworked and really noisy. We couldn't have been more wrong.
The site is like an oasis, on the edge of one of the worlds great metropolises. Lots of trees and greenery. The pitches were very generous and level on a sloping site. The toilet block was immaculate, very clean, with really good showers. I don't think there was any children's play area, but may be wrong, we spent most of our time in central London. In the evenings the site was so peaceful, much needed after the days hurly burly, that is London.
The railway station is a ten minute walk through the residential area of Abbey Wood, past shops and takeaways. We caught the train to Greenwich, 3 pounds 10 pence return, 20 minutes, and then used the Thames Clipper boat service. A really good way to see London. We will use this site again.

If You are looking to visit london STAY HERE!
Location - the site is in the middle of a very built up area, but as the site's webpage says the site itself is 'positively rural! very little noise even when there were a large party of french students staying. The site is just 5 minutes walk away from Abbey Wood station with regular trains into central London
Facilities - the site facilities were plentiful and absolutely spotless. There are limited electric hook-ups for tents, ie the central tent site only has enough elecrtric hook ups for four tents so it's best to book in advance if you want electric. The staff were fantastic would always greet you, and are full of info as to where to go and what to see in London.
The local wildlife - we saw 4 squirrels wandering around the site and if you leave food in your tent they will have it!
All in all we had a fantastic 5 nights on this site and will definitely be back as it made an ideal base for exploring London

We visited this site when we came down to London to see AC/DC at the O2. The site is immaculate in every way, perfect pitches, extremely helpful staff, spotless facilities, beautifully landscaped gardens and surrounded by trees, couldn't fault it in any way.
The train station is a short walk away and you can buy day tickets at the newsagents you pass on the way down there.
The area the campsite is in did feel a tad lairy coming back late at night and it's for this reason I would think that the camp security is so tight. The massive gates and electric fence give it away! However, please don't let this put you off, we had no problems and we didn't hear of any.
I'd conclude by saying that this is probably the jewel in the crown of camp sites and we would definitely stay again when visiting the capital.

We just spent 9 nights on this site and cannot fault it in any way. This lovely spot in thE capital city boasts 9 acres of landscaped grounds full of mature trees. The pitches are mostly individual, level and the two large toilet blocks are spotless and more than adequate. At night there is very little or no noise and even in the day there is little or no problem from aircraft noise. The railway station (less than half mile walk) takes you straight to the city centre and there are also useful shops next to the station. Site security is very good too and gates are locked overnight with a code for entry. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Overall this is one of the best sites we have ever stayed on in 35 years of camping and caravanning a real gem
