Best site ever. As previous reviews, immaculate, quiet even though so urban. Lots of wildlife.
Like being abroad there are so many foreign visitors. There is an excellent information room and wardens happy to answer any further questions.
Very secure site, electric fence all round (sounds a bit colditz but very unobtrusive) and gates that are locked at 10:00pm every night. Entrance on foot via coded gate. We were never back before 11:00pm as went into City visiting No1 son. Well lit.
There is an area at the top of the site for tents with their own toilet block. 2 further toilet blocks.Laundry room/veg prep and wash up area.
What else? - There is a co-op 5 mins away and in other direction towards railway station a greengrocers / pet food store, takeaway, Indian, newsagent and general store and a bakery.
Will certainly be returning, just wish we lived nearer then we could visit more often!

Stayed here Friday to Sunday. Typical CC site, immaculate and very helpful wardens. 5 Mins walk to Abbey Wood stn and then 30 mins to London. Greenwich 15mins away with boat links to London. Toilet Blocks very clean. Lots of foreign nationals use this site as where can you camp in London. Very secure and large pitches. Great if attending O2 for concert to. Will be retuning.

What can I say a great site up to the usual Caravan Club standards, made to feel very welcome and asked to choose our own pitch and report back when settled in.
Ideal location for visiting the capital train station only 5 minutes walk away and staff there very helpful.
Shower blocks immaculate, no outside noise to disturb us during our stay and a very rural site in the middle of a built up area.
Will be back in 2008

Stayed here over the October half term with a 5 & 7 Year old and had a fantastic time. Once we found the site (directions in CC book very confusing) couldn't believe this site was in the middle of a built up area. It felt very rural, the pitches were set out well and facilities immaculate. Security was very good and the wardens very helpful. A 5/10 min to the station and a 25min ride and you were at London Bridge. Would recommend getting off at Greenwich to go to the Maritime Museum and Greenwich Park. Also could pick up the Docklands Light Railway from here which children enjoyed. Would definetely recommend this site for visiting London and we will definetely be back.

What an experience! From the moment we arrived to book in and were made so welcome, to the moment we left, we had an amazing stay. The site is beautiful, and is kept so clean and tidy. Lots of conkers/acorns dropping on the road at this time of the year, but they were swept up daily! Beautiful mature trees, and well looked after site. We will definitely be going back as it was such a good site.
The site was not full - and so only one toilet block was open, but it was perfectly adequate for the number of people. I never had to queue for a shower, and they were immaculate whatever time of day you wanted to use them. All the windows in the block were open for fresh air, but they also all had fly screens over them, so there were never any bugs inside! What a great idea.
Excellent advice given on where to park our caravan (where we were unlikely to get lots of conkers dropping on us). When we sat watching the squirrels running round it was hard to believe we were in London!
The site is very secure - gates are locked from 10pm until 8am for vehicles - if you arrive back after that there is an area you can park your car for the night, and a pedestrian entrance operated by code.
The train station is a 5 - 10 minute walk - downhill on the way there, uphill on the way back - which after a long day in London was not great! There is a car park at the train station, which only costs £3.60 to park for the whole day! We did this after our first walk back! I think the walk back was only so bad because our feet hurt so much from all the walking round London! By the way - the car park at the station is free on a Sunday. A £5.70 Day Traveller card was the best value, you can't travel before 9.30am, but otherwise you are free to use the train into London, all the tubes, and also the buses in London. Really good value.

What a fantastic site!
Location - the site is in the middle of a very built up area, but as the site's webpage says the site itself is 'positively rural'! The site is just 5 minutes walk away from Abbey Wood station with regular trains into central London (35 minute journey, you can buy an off-peak travel card (zones 1 - 4) for £5.70 at the station.) The only thing to watch out for is the last train leaves Charing Cross at 00.14 and it's a very expensive taxi fare if you miss it (c. £45, ouch!)
Facilities - the site facilities were plentiful and absolutely spotless. There are limited electric hook-ups for tents so it's best to book in advance if you want electric.
The local wildlife - we saw lots of foxes and squirrels wandering around the site - wonderful. You are warned when you check in that foxes like to steal shoes and squirrels steal food, but we didn't have any problems with either, just enjoyed watching them playing.
The wardens were fantastic and even keep a supply of rock pegs for people to buy - essential on this site as the ground is rock hard.
All in all we had a fantastic 5 nights on this site and will definitely be back as it made an ideal base for exploring London.

This site is the Caravan Club at its best. The facilities were ample and spotless, the pitches were big and well laid out and the staff and warden very friendly and helpful. So close to the railway station for easy access to London. The site is as it says "positively rural" with all the benefits of a Caravan Club site very well maintained without being made to look like a housing estate - not a hanging basket in site! I will certainly return here.

Location has to be seen to be believed - it's in the middle of what can only be described as an 'Only Fools & Horses' set! A beautiful site (and quite a treat for the surrounding residents), clearly well looked after and just 2 minutes from the main bus route into Greenwich (15 minute ride). After tackling the M25 for an hour on the Friday evening, our warm welcome from the staff was just what we needed - we didn't even need to 'clock in and cough-up' till the following morning! Taking our 20-month-old certainly puts sites to the test, and we found all facilities to be perfect (the blocks were bone-dry containing spaceous cubicles and showers, lots of dishwashing/veg prep space and ample space for baby-changing). Parking the 'van was a doddle - an ideal place for 'newbies' to practise. You will need to drive or use public transport to get anywhere worthwhile, but the site has been located as the ideal 'park & ride' for tourists and weekenders alike. A WORD OF WARNING - pay attention to the direction advice in your handbook. If we had listened to our GPS, we may have needed some reversing assistance from Del Boy & Rodney! The verdict? Great for couples with babies who don't need parks or pools, ideal for beginners and perfect for a weekend's getaway!

This site is open all year for Caravans, Motor Caravans and Tents. Non members also welcome. Advance booking advised Bank Holidays and July/August. 360 pitches. The Abbey Wood site is set in 9 acres of sloping woodland surrounded by suburban London. No doubt when the leaves on the very mature trees are out you would not be able to see so much of the surrounding houses. Despite the closeness or suburbia the site is reasonably quiet. Our visit was in late March. Most of the site is on grass and most pitches are on a gentle slope, so levelling blocks are advised. There are some hardstanding areas but these can only be used by motor caravans and caravans without awnings. Tents have their own area which looked reasonably level. There are three toilet blocks, although during our visit only one was open because the site was no where near full. Whilst kept perfectly clean the toilet blocks are not of the most modern design and perhaps not up the usual high standard normally found on a Club site. The site office does not sell milk or newspapers but there are local shops only ten minutes walk away. Television reception is quite poor and there is no signal booster on this site. The main attraction of this site is the excellent public transport links to central London and other points of interest. The station is right by thelocal shops. The Travel Cards are the best value but the station staff will be more than happy to advise on the best ticket to buy. The Dome and Greenwich are only a few stops along the line from Abbey Wood. Please note there are no car parking facilities at the Dome, except for Orange Badge holders. Central London is a 30 minute trip into Charing Cross. Also nearby is the Thames Barrier which has a visitor centre and parking. If you want to shop until you drop and you don't want to go into London, the Lakeside shopping centre is on the north side of the Dartford Crossing. The excellent state of the art Bluewater Centre is now open and this is just a 15 minute drive from the site. Abbey Wood is quite easy to find. From the M25 take the A2 towards London. Leave the A2 at the Danson Interchange and follow the international camping signs.
