We visited debden house for our first family camping trip and I must say we all loved it.The fields were lovely and clean the pitch we had was in field 5 and we had direct access to the forest which the kids loved going into and collecting firewood. I will be going there again the only thing I would do is bring my own fire wood as there was no wood in the end we had to buy a saw from the local homebase and go into the forest and cut some old dead branches and logs up to make firewood but it all added to fun.

Had a lovely weekend camping, the campsite itself was very clean and well kept. The pitches were big enough for a large tent plus car at the side. The non electric hook up field had a lovely big area in the middle, so lots of games could be played without disturbing any fellow campers!. Didn't try the cafe, but it looked ok from the outside. Would definitely go back again.

We just returned from a weekend at Debden House and overall we had a lovely time. We had four children with us and they loved every second as we were pitched close to the playground and forest and they enjoyed both very much.
When we called to reserve they said to just turn up as they have never turned anyone away. However, we had to reserve 48 hours in advance if we wanted a pitch in the fire field where you can have a bonfire. On arrival we were told to pitch anywhere in field 1. Field 1 was very convenient for toilets, showers and playground for kids. You can also have electric hookup in field 1 so was perfect for our needs.
This is by far the largest campsite that we have visited. There is only approximately 8 showers for the whole campsite which meant waiting for a shower at peak times. I would suggest going for a shower just after they clean it (times stuck on the door) as it get's very muddy and wet at other times. The loo's are cleaned twice a day.
There is a Morrisons about 1.5 miles from the site which was very convenient. There is a small shop on site but they have very little to offer apart from chocolate and crisps.
The only negative for us was the noise (very loud music from various pitches which went on well into the night) as there were a lot of groups. If you want a quite get away this is not the place to go.
It was a perfect get away for us as the kids could run around all day long, we were close to the toilets and showers, we had electric hookup and it was 30min drive from home.

We visited this site as only our 2nd time camping and were very disappointed. The reviews and website seemed promising but it did not live up to its promise in our opinion.
We camped in field 4 with only a handful of others and the space was ample with our 10 man tent, however the only hook up points line the access road to fields 5,6 and 7 limiting our choice which was a concern with 2 adventurous tots wandering on to it at intervals and young would be racing car drivers using it. The toilets were adequate but not inspiring. The reception is not well signed and you must use common sense to locate it. The shop was closed during our visit. This is a cash only site, a fact which I could not see mentioned in their web site.
Our main complaint was that the 10 oclock curfew was not enforced and noisy revellers maintained their party including firework ( with a firework phobic dog in a tent this was not welcome ) until 5.30 am. We got no sleep at all as the noise continued not only from their site but as they endlessly treked too and from the toilets from their fields, through field 4 to the toilet site between field 4 and 1 making as much noise as possible the whole journey. I am sure they had a lovely time.
However on a positive note the children had a lovely time playing with 2 nice families and saw loads of rabbits. There is loads of room to play games, fly kites etc. They also enjoyed the 2 playground sites. 1 right behind us containing 4 swings and the other in field 1 with slides & climbing frame. They were interested in the various animals, chickens, goat, pot bellied pigs etc but it all seemed rather run down and there was no information displayed.
This site could be so much more. If you do go I suggest you try a fire field or field 1.

Had a fantastic weekend in our tent.
Its a big site but pitches big too so even though it was busy we had plenty of space. Luckly our friends we were camping with had been to the site before and knew to book the family field with fire pits as not all the pitches are allowed camp fires, so really important to tell them what you want when you book! Only down side to the family feild is it is a really long dark walk to the toilets. Cafe was tiny but good to grab a cuppa when we arrived and a bacon sarnie on the last morning. Play equipment scarce but our kids loved running in and out of the woods. Overall a good site so long as you select the right field. (One field was a bit loud but think the site owners had put them together intentionally. )

First visit and I have to say we were very impressed. Site was busy, no spare pitches in our field but you would not have known it, pitches are far enough apart and the fields are so big that it never felt busy. The forest is so accessible and the kids spent the weekend building dens in the woods. We will definitely be back to this site.

Our second visit to Debden House and it was very good, weather was fantastic. We had a pitch in the fire field as you do generally get more space, however this year we were very close to a large group who were in a small pitch and they did encroach onto our pitch. Don't expect too much, the showers and toilets were as well as can be expected, the shop was disappointing, didn't sell any basics but, we managed to get an ice lolly, however, it shut up at odd times in the day for long periods. Having said that, we came for a 'get away from it all' break and we did come well prepared and only due to hot weather fancied an ice lolly. Overall we loved our stay, and we will return, lovely setting and the children can wander safely.

This is the second time we have stayed at Debden House. We stayed the same weekend last year when it rained heavily, thank fully the weather was fantastic this weekend. It was really busy this time and our pitch was already allocated. Fortunately we were able to swap our pitch as we had too many tents for the pitch allocated as there was 14 of us sleeping in large tents and the pitch allocated was a little small. Debden House has lots of room, great views if you pitch at the top of the fire pit fields the view is great. We stayed in field 5 this time and had a wicked fire two nights running, the wood is supplied by the campsite however the logs are quite large and you may need to hunt for kindling to get the fire started. The showers are hot and clean, there are two blocks of toilets which are cleaned regularly, a shop on site, the fields are clean and pretty much litter free, there were lots of kids in the lower fields. It was a little noisy on the Saturday night with loud music coming from another field. It was a great site I would recommend. We will be using this site again.

We visited Debden House camp site for the first time on a very busy, warm bank holiday weekend and had an absolutely fantastic time! Although our first choice, the fire field was fully booked we were placed in field 1. Situated very close to the showers and toilets, this field was very convenient. We chose a pitch very close to the forest and we were very pleased by the amount of space offered. The toilets, showers and washing up areas were always very clean and well kept, although tended to be very busy. With only approx 8 showers for the whole campsite, queues tended to be very long at busy times. Overall this campsite is fantastic for larger groups and families and is very child friendly. All the family groups seemed to be having a fantastic time! I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone. Our only negative point; the website suggested that the camp office would be very happy to provide maps of the area and suggest walks, however, we found them unable to offer any help at all with maps and walks and the staff did not seem to be at all knowledgeable about the local area.
Overall, an excellent camp site for families but not really ideal for exploring the local area by foot.

Just got back from a long bank holiday weekend @ Debden House-& loved it! Its not all about large groups & fire pits.Buying an ehu en-route we opted for a pitch with electricity (1st time ever)-that means either field 1 or 4, no fires on these fields but we didnt mind and settled for field 1.The main toilets are at the entrance to this gently sloping field, along with washing up facilities & showers. There are also portacabin type toilets at the other end of this field where it joins field 4,this field has hookups along the road-edge & a small kids play area (the larger one is in field 1).Next are fields 5,6 & 7-the fire fields,no toilets & only saw 1 tap in a puddle in field 5 (field 3 is for school/scout groups etc)the fire fields slope quite a bit & attract large groups partying together-but it is possible to find a quiet corner if you arent in a party mood,or choose field 1.Field 2 is more enclosed, clumps of bushes with pitches in between-this allows fires & is the smallest field.
We were lucky with the weather (considering normal bank holiday conditions!)but even if it rains you could always take a walk in the forest, or drive to theydon bois, epping, debden or loughton-all within 5 miles. We tried to find the deer sanctury-but the site supplied map is too vague. It does show everywhere you can fish for 20 miles though!Security do regular rounds & the gates lock at 10.30pm which keeps down vehicle movement at night-but if you are in field 1 near the front the cockerel might give you an early morning call! Facilities are generally clean although the site shop is not well stocked, shower cubicles are large but smell bad-even after they were cleaned, some of the cold taps didnt work in the gents loos but this is not a 5 star site-& on a bank holiday services were probably stretched!despite being a massive site there were lots of bins & credit to the staff keeping it all tidy! To sum up.A good site offering 7 different fields in stunning surroundings-your kids will love it,so give some proper camping a try!
