This is a pleasant riverside site, convenient for visiting champagne houses. The pitches are a reasonable size and have thick hedges between them which is nice for privacy.
The staff were very helpful with information and recommending champagne houses to visit.
There is bread available every morning, which is useful as it is a fair walk to the nearest shop.
There is a food van on site with benches outside it, which mainly seemed to be a place for the staff's friends to gather.
We got taxis to and from Epernay, as it is a fairly long walk (especially in the rain) and driving is a really bad idea if you are sampling champagne.

Spent 5 nights here as a base for visiting the Champagne area and Reims. Had booked via e-mail earlier in the year and were allocated a pitch facing the river with plenty of welcome shade. What we didn't realise until after we arrived was that, according to a sign at the entrance, the site doesn't accept twin-axle caravans or caravans over 6 metres in length. Fortunately nobody noticed our 'van was 7.4 metres long and the pitch accommodated the 'van, awning and car, still with room for table, chairs etc. Without a problem!
This site caters for a mix of overnight and longer stays, so was quiet through the day but busier in the early mornings and late afternoons / early evenings. On a couple of the days the site's play areas were used by groups of French children in organised holiday play schemes, joggers / runners regularly used the path along by the river, and the site also contains the base of a canoe club and so it is not as private as we might have liked, though it did not cause any problems.
The toilet and shower facilities were modern, clean and well-maintained, though by 10am or so in the mornings and by 9pm or so at night the hot water in the sinks and showers had become decidedly cool! The best time for hot showers we found was around 5-6pm, which was also straight after they had been cleaned.
The restaurant van was open each evening and seemed fairly popular, though we did not use it, and the baker's van came to the site each morning except Monday, its arrival being announced in French and English via loudspeakers around the site.
The site is well-placed on the edge of the town, with a newish Leclerc supermarket a couple of miles away and a Carrefour slightly closer (no hills to get to this one - handy for on your bikes!). The staff in the Tourist Information Office in Epernay were very helpful and we too did the Mercier Champagne House tour - well worth the 8 euros. We also visited some of the villages on the Champagne Trail (route touristique) and loved the surrounding countryside. Reims is an easy 15 mile drive away and well worth a visit, if only for the cathedral, which we prefer to Notre-Dame in Paris. As with any French town, if you're not bothered about the shops, visit on a Sunday - all the cafes, restaurants and tourist sites are open, there is much less traffic and parking is free!
This site grew on us, the longer we stayed, and at just over 16 euros a night (incl. 5 amp electric) was excellent value for money. We would happily return.

We stayed at this campsite for 2 days at the start of our trip around France as its a nice distance from Boulogne to get us going.
The site was very nice and a great start to the trip.
We arrived just after 5 and got sorted very quickly and got a card for the gate offered - no deposit required I don't think.
The pitch was a good size and enclosed by hedges.
Some of the pitches got lots of shade which would have made them too cold in May really, we liked our sunny one.
The food van was there when we were there, this could be a blessing or a hinderence. Looked like locals on motorbikes or friends of the owners coming round on a sat night but not massively disturbing - the van is near the river, directly up from the reception.
The toilets and showers were very good and they also froze ice blocks for us in reception at 1E each.
We also did the Mercier tour, from what I had read before this one was the one to do in town and we were not dissapointed.
There is a Leclerc supermarket a short distance away for provisions.
We had problems all over France like the previous reviewer with disposible BBQ's. We dropped lucky once in Intermarche and then Gifi for ours.
They were rubbish though, for 2 of us we needed 2 BBQ's. For some reason they include a bottle of water to put them out afterwards but it was hardly needed.
I would use this site again if I were in the area.

Just got back home from a week long tour of Burgundy and Champagne. We moved from Au bois Joli in Andreyes on wednesday morning up to eppernay. I had emailed the site via this website on thursday AM the week before, I did not receive a reply until saturday by which time we were already on our way to burgundy. Fortunately, 'Au bois Joli' has a wifi hotspot on the terrace next to the pool so I was able to check my email. Unfortunately the site in epperney had booked us in but for the wrong dates. Luckily - the site staff spoke english, so a telephone call later, we were happily on our way to Eppernay.
We arrived at the site at lunchtime - it was closed for check in! We dumped the car and went to the Mercier Cellars for a couple of hours until the staff re-appeared. We checked in without hassle and were given a pitch number. The pitches are nice uniform sites, most surrounded on three sides by hedgerows. It struck me as a little 'stiff' and suburban that we were all in little plots but I got used to it after a short while. The first hiccup was the EHU - ours is 15 metres but it still did not reach the EHU in the adjoining pitch. The EHUs are sited in one pitch but serve the surrounding 8 or 10 pitches which can mean a bit of disturbance of you get the pitch with the EHU. After much head scratching, a member of our party went back to the office to see what could be done.3 minutes later, a member of the staff came cycling towards us with an extension lead!
The site was fairly empty when we arrived, just a couple of dutch campervans. We made use of the launderette as we packed for cold weather but got very hot weather!
The toilets and showers were free and very well maintained. There are a tew mosquitoes so make sure you are well armed with spray
Unfortunately - we did not see any sign of a snack van or bread van during our 4 days at the site which was a bit dissapointing as the site advertisess these facilities.
We decided to stay at this site as we wanted to visit a few champagne houses but even this proved to be a problem. Gosset - was shut for the entire bank holiday, Piper heidseick - shut for the near future for 'work' and Ruinart - telephoned to arrange the tour and was told to turn up any time after 9am the next day - got there at 09:30 on friday, only to be told that ALL the tours and visits for the full weekend were already booked!.Perrier Jouet was also closed. We were able to visit a couple of the others - Mercier and Moet & Chandon but I was looking forward to the others.
We called at Veuve Cliquot but the staff could not even be bothered to come to the Till in the gift shop to serve us so we left empty handed. I never liked their Champagne anyway - too Almondy for my palate!
Would definitely like to visit the area again next spring but will pre-book all the tours from the UK first. I would also have no qualms about staying at another 'Council' campsite as this one really was good value for money. We did struggle getting in and out of the site during the lunch break 2.5 hours and after 8pm. We were never offered a 'key card' to get in and out as others have mentioned but in fairness, we did not go and ask for one either.
There is a little bit more noise than some other sites we stayed at - road and rail so if you are a light sleeper it might be worth looking at somewhere else.
One thing to mention which surprised us - No disposable barbecues on sale in France! Must be something to do with recycling or whatever but we could not find them anywhere so take a few if you use them for your evening cooking!

Stayed for just one night on the way south. Didn't actually book in advance but that wasn't a problem, we usually travel outside school holidays.
Pitches very adequate, our outfit is large and we had no problems siting it.
Snack van very convenient, tried out the local brew! Pleasant enough view over the river, ideal after a long days drive when all we wanted to do was unwind.
Toilet facilities very clean and not crowded.
Will definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

A very nice site, we booked via email which was very straight forward. The reception staff spoke enough English that we didn't have any problems. The pitches are large and mainly have hedges on three sides.
We had a non EHU pitch which was near the back of the site and we didn't notice any road noise (and I am normally quite sensitive to noise). We did find the site slightly noisy in the mornings but mainly this was fellow campers packing up to get an early start further down as this is a very popular stopover point. Not really the sites fault. Much more down to thoughtless fellow campers.
The lake adjoining the site is nice, we found a couple of walks around it. It's not really rural but is nice enough.
We stayed here whilst visiting Champagne houses and it was a perfect location. The snack van was fine, we had chips and pizza from there and the proprietor was happy to interpret our poor French.
The toilets have been upgraded since the first time we stayed there and are now all 'English' style toilets, the block is well maintained, cleaned often and more than adequate. There is a power socket in the foyer of the block if you don't have EHU and want to use a hairdryer.
There is a baker who comes onto the site around 8.00-8.30 each morning selling bread, pain au chocolat etc., these were very nice.
We'd go back again and would recommend the site.

As a couple we found this site to be a decent, flat, campsite, ideal for visiting the champagne caves in Epernay (Moet Chandon etc) and the surrounding area. 15-20 mins walk into town. The shop/stall has basic food items, wines, beer and pizzas but also there massive CarreFour hypermarket just 5mins drive away. Since the last review they must have updated the toilet/shower blocks because all loos had seats in both male and female blocks. Very clean. I would not recommended swimming in the river, at the time it was very murky, more of a canal than river. The office has a freezer for ice blocks etc for a small fee. English spoken but one of the staff advised that we should speak French which is fair enough, then again it was only our first ever day in France! All in all, recommended campsite to meander around the champagne trials of the area.

Cheap and cheerful site, road and rail noise. Okay for visiting Reims but I wouldn't hang around too long! Described on brochure as having a restaurant but it was in fact a snack van selling chips etc. Toilets, showers etc basic but clean, only 1 toliet was not continental so all the English queued for the one with a toilet seat! There is a barrier with key card. Playground for children, but this is also open to the local children and public, so I was a little worried about security. Reims was great however, would recommend the Piper Heidseick (sorry cant spell it) as the best cave to visit with children as it has a little train you go on, so makes it a bit more interesting for them.

Fairly big individual emplacements separated by hedges and trees and mostly flat. Not all pitches had shade despite the large trees. Facilities block was clean, but mostly continental toilets. 1 'proper' toilet in each of the ladies and gents. There was plenty of hot water for showers and washing up. Wash basins, but no individual cubicles for washing. Electric hook-ups on selected pitches. The river runs alongside the site and there is canoeing available. There is a small snack bar caravan on the site and they have a TV there. They serve pizzas, chips etc. And drinks. The World Cup was on when we were there and they had quite a large number of customers. The town is about 2kms away and there are footpaths all the way. The office staff were helpful and had a good selection of leaflets. The main attractions around being the champagne houses, who all offered tours and 'degustation'. Good to see a UKCS sticker in the campsite office window.
